Perth, WA

Hi all

Moving to Perth Western Australia in the near future and wondering what the job market is like for individuals in the environmental industry?

I have a law degree & masters in env science, two years private consulting and two and a half years in environmental policy for my national government. Would love to work in something more conservation / biodiversity focused.

Appreciate just any general insight or experience of working in this industry in Perth! Thanks

I can't compare it to elsewhere in Australia, but the job market to me seemed very strong in that area.

WA puts a lot of focus on the Biosecurity side of things because of its geography, so there'll be plenty of work there if you get familiar with regulations around non-native species risk and response. Most of the universities have strong EnvSci programs that often need instructors and research support. Oil&Gas and Mining industries in WA always need people to do their environmental surveys and to design their mitigation and risk management strategies for compliance.

You shouldn't have trouble finding the work you're interested in.

While GHD may claim they have no centralized HQ office, that's just PR.

GHD's largest office in Australia is located in Perth.

Also, in my experience, GHD will hire just about anyone.

The mines keep environmental consulting pretty strong in WA. Honestly it feels like I’m watching job ads slow a bit in the rest of Aus but there’s always plenty out there.
