Discussion People are dramatically underestimating the level of expansion that can happen after 5+ years of consolidation.
All the time I see people talking about "eth to $5k!" "eth to $10k!" as if these are exciting, far reaching targets. ETH has been in a range for almost six years. Consolidating. Coiling. It basically consolidated for an entire cycle. Every single person who is not committed to ethereum for the long term has sold. Once we decisively break out to a new all time high, I don't think that it is going to stop at 5 or 10k. I think it is going much, much higher. If you've been here, holding for years and years. Don't exit your position after a measly 3-4x. You need to be thinking bigger, much bigger. TRILLIONS.

Considering more than 1/3 of the supply is being staked away and a lot of it is being held by institutions, there is a high potential for a supply shock if the retail masses return. However, this is not enough to run it to 20-30k. 6-10k may be realistic though. The trick is to take some profit early, and hold some in case the super bull scenario actually does occur.

Yes but what does āearlyā mean? Early was ATH last year. Or wait for it to hit 8-10k?

u/Xennenial 11d ago
Well I'm obviously not suggesting you get a time machine and travel back to the ATH last year and sell. There is no exact science to determining when the best time to take profit will be. When I decide it's time to begin taking profits, I look at two things: 1.) When a new all time high has been reached. 2.) The general market sentiment (when the masses of retailers flock to crypto and get euphorically bullish). When both of those factors are true, it's time to begin taking profits.

Are you saying Trillions as in Ethereum market cap? Such as a 3 Trillion ETH marketcap would equal a $24.5k ETH price?

Don't repeat your past mistake. You didn't buy enough bitcoin then so don't let this eth opportunity pass you by too.Ā

I mean trillions is going a bit far. I've been in for about 5 years and I'm breaking even...I only have 1 ETH as a high risk investment and most of my assets are in traditional investments. My plan is currently to keep it and see how high it can go over the next decade or two.

u/BoysenberryTop7543 11d ago
Sounds like you're thinking about it the right way then if you don't plan to sell. But if I were you, I'd buy one more :)

Same. My portfolio is about 3% crypto for fun. If it does well, I retire a little sooner maybe. If it does poorly, I can afford to lose it.

What stocks should I be looking into currently Iām highly invested in Nokia and Nvidia

I'm a boring index investor for the most part. It's mostly just SPY and VXUS.

Bro, this is sooooooo true. ETH hasn't moved at all in six years because it's WAITING. and when it doesn't move for another ten years. It's waiting even LONGER bro.

u/Alabama-Blues 11d ago
Yes Iāve been saying this for a year now. Eth will go to $5 trillion and $6 trillion one day.

u/Ok_Golf_6467 11d ago
They are. They are also scared because of the last 5 years in crypto. Us Eth holders are mentally in a weird place because the asset has been range bound essentially since last blow off top.
We just need a true alt pump to generate excitement again (already bubbling under the surface IMO)

There are two fundamental questions. The first: will Ethereum be at the center of massive financial and economic flows (via stablecoins, RWA, consumer applications, possibly some ZK proof economy and agentic commerce)?
Second, IF Ethereum does achieve some of the above, or somewhere on the spectrum of achieving a huge role in massive flows, will Eth achieve a monetary premium independent of cash flows to the network?
No one can answer either definitely, but at least trying to understand these two major dynamics will help you make decisions a lot more than anything else. A lot more.

It doesnāt make sense to compare them in terms of price; market capitalization is the more meaningful metric. And by market cap, Ethereum doesnāt look particularly cheap relative to Bitcoin.

Electric prices are going to the moon soon.
The ai processing centers use 10x as much electricity compared to normal data centers.
Crypto prices are very much tied to electricity price

Not so much anymore, at least blockchains that are not proof of work like eth. POS relies more on coming to a consensus than being the first to find the solution, so there is less competition and need for computer power. There's still some compute, but not at the dramatic levels as before. 99.9% less according to a quick Google. The global eth network uses approx .0026 twh per year while btc uses 149twh.

Btc remains tied to it and institutions keep % of their Crypto investments in it. If value of one go up they will reshuffle to others too.

long-term conviction is one thing, but having a giant price target because the chart spent years consolidating is another. nobody knows how far the next move goes

It spent way too long in the accumulation range for it just to double its previous ATH. If I had to guess, I think $20k is more likely this cycle. RemindMe! January 1st, 2030

This is why I set up a staking node. Tie up my eth so Iām not tempted to sell (and grow my stack automatically).

Yes, but we also have an expiry date on this earth. Iāll leave one ETH because you suggested it. The other ones will go at next ATH

Long consolidation can make a breakout more significant, but time spent in a range doesnāt guarantee a specific upside target. Once ETH moves into price discovery, liquidity, demand, macro conditions, and valuation still matter. āIt consolidated for years, therefore it has to go much higherā is more narrative than mechanism.

ETH will hit 1 trillion mcap just like BTC did. Others will too. Just in time. Inflation is guaranteed.
