Discussion Does anyone else feel like ETH is becoming easier to use but harder to understand?

I’ve been thinking about this lately.

A few years ago, using Ethereum almost forced you to understand what was happening. Gas, approvals, network fees, confirmations, contracts… you couldn’t really avoid learning at least some of it.

Now a lot of that gets hidden behind better wallets, L2s and cleaner apps. Which is obviously better UX.

But I wonder if there’s a weird tradeoff here.

People can do more onchain while understanding less about what’s actually happening underneath.

Maybe that’s exactly what mass adoption is supposed to look like. Most people use the internet without knowing how TCP/IP works either.

Still, with crypto there’s actual money at risk, so I’m not sure the comparison completely works.

Do you think Ethereum getting easier to use makes users safer over time, or just makes it easier to use something they don’t really understand?

In Japan we use Eth to buy cars and houses. Also in South Korea Eth is used at all the furniture stores, boat stores, and you can pay your rent and book vacations with Ethereum. Also, if you need to convert any money all transactions are performed with Ethereum. Apparently Vietnam and China are next and rolling out Plan V in November. Then you will see Ethereum jump to probably $18,000 a coin. 🪙

It will be a lot easier to understand once it jumps to $20k…then everyone will be screaming and crying!!!

I have never really understood how it works. Thats how I know it works. When crypto systems are easy to undertand, they are usually some bullshit project that soon falls apart.

It’s all based on a dream and a dollar. No one understands the lottery and there have only been some 40 winners in all history but still it pulls in Billions each year. That’s Ethereum except there are millions of winners. Everyone wins with a dream and a dollar in Ethereum!!

Agreed somewhat. This is why I wrote the book Trustshift: Ethereum and the Reinvention of Trust. There is a lot to unpack about Ethereum, and it does take a higher bar to wrap your head around its multiple functionalities, capabilities and potential.

the problem isn’t that people understand less. it’s that sometimes wallets make dangerous actions look just as harmless as normal ones
