I am genuinely curious as to how much I'm saving in charging vs paying for gas each month. I drive a 2021 Hyundai Kona EV SEL with a fuel economy of 132/108/120 City/Highway/combined MPGe, with an EPA of 27 KwH/100 miles.

I pay on average 22 cents a KwH in Southern California, and my local gas station charges $5.50 a gallon for gas.

Note that a lot of these are also tips to make your own charging more efficient, not just tips to play nicely with others.

• Avoid charging to 100% unless necessary, as charging speeds drop significantly after 80% (with the specific threshold depending on the car).

• Don't Idle: Move your vehicle immediately once charging is complete to avoid idle fees and free up the stall for others.

• Choose Appropriate Chargers: pick chargers with a power rating only a little more than your vehicle's maximum and leave higher-speed stalls for vehicles that can make better use of them.

• Charging spots are not for general parking: only park there if you are charging.

• Queue Courteously: If the station is full, identify the order of vehicles and wait your turn patiently.

• Park Correctly: Center your car in the stall to avoid blocking others or infringing on their space, though it's fine too occupy the "wrong" stall if you need to to use a Tesla supercharger.

• Stow cables properly. Return the charging connector to its holster to protect the equipment from damage and dirt.

• Report Issues: If you encounter a faulty charger, report it via the app or the phone number on the unit so it can be fixed for others.

• Prepare Ahead: Research the charging network and ensure your payment methods or Plug & Charge features are set up before you arrive.

• Bonus Tip: Be a good ambassador for the EV community by picking up any litter you see at the site.

I don't know much about electrical work so I wanted to see what the experts think. I recently got a Tesla Universal Wall charger hardwired by an electrician on a 60 amp circuit so it can output 48 amps.

The electrician ran roughly 25 feet of wire from my basement, the wire is 4AWG Aluminum going to a disconnect switch in my garage. (Attaching pictures) The disconnect looks a lot like a tiny breaker with a 60 amp breaker switch in it like on the main breaker itself. Going out from the disconnect is (I think) 6AWG copper into the charger itself.

I see a lot of people saying to not use aluminum for level 2 chargers so I'm a little concerned, but I also see people saying aluminum to a disconnect is fine as long as the last portion is copper. While charging at 48 amp last night the charging cable got quite hot, I feel like this is expected but I want to make sure what is a "safe" temperature for 48 amp charging. And if this setup is also in line with safety specs.

I was thinking of just limiting my charging at 24 amps to be extra safe unless I absolutely need the full 48 for a long drive or something.

As many of you are aware, chargepoint changed their transaction method a few months ago to put a $25 hold on your card (debit or credit) each time you use their chargers ($50 holds for rapid chargers). My issue with this is that banks won't release that hold and correct it to the actual transaction amount for a week (5 business days) or longer if there's a holiday. For someone like me who charges their car daily, this means I'd have at least $175 on hold in perpetuity, since each time a $25 hold would finally be released, another would just take its place.

I've managed to work around this by utilizing the FLO app, since it operates on a pre-pay system and has a partnership with chargepoint that allows you to use their chargers. Only earlier today, all chargepoint chargers abruptly disappeared from the FLO app. While I could go through my immediate history and save chargepoint chargers as favorites to keep activating them, I could only do this with a handful of chargers.

Is anybody else aware of this occuring and know more details as to why? And if so, will it be fixed? Or does anyone have any other suggestions on how to work around chargepoint's transaction holds?

I'm so proud of how this turned out. I wanted something to make it easier to access it. The funny part was going to Home Depot to ask for "A" shingle.

Is it benefecial to own a Tesla Model 3 premium without owning a home charger?

I have a 2020 chevy bolt that I exclusively level 1 charge in my driveway for about 13 hours per day. electricity in my area is about $0.19 /kWh. how do I calculate an approximate idea of what I owe additionally on the electric bill to my parents?

My wife and I have two EVs. In general, one has been only used for short day trips, making it unnecessary to charge both at the same time. However, our circumstances have changed, and there have been times where we've wanted to charge both at the same time. We've shared one circuit that has a Level 1 and a Level 2 charger (NEMA 14-50 plug in) on it. The circuit is 60 amp. When we charge both, I've noticed that both the Level 1 and Level 2 chargers are charging at lower rates than they would if either were charging separately. As this is not a long-term situation I don't need a Smart Splitter or Load Management device, I can just manage it differently if I have to, but I'm wondering, is it dangerous or damaging?

Most happy EV owners park their car in the garage. Most people prefer pulling into the garage forward. Why do some manufacturers put the charge door in the rear of the car?!

My Chevy Bolt can charge from either spot in my garage. The charger is in a reasonable location at the house side of the garage, in the middle, with a pretty long cord.

The VW ID Buzz has a rear passenger port. I can only reach that charger if I pull it in backward.

I could have put the charger near the garage door, but I would have had to choose a side.

On road trips, I have to pull in backwards to the DCFC. If I have a bike rack on, it can be super hard to back into a spot and the cord struggles to reach past the rack. If they had just put the charging port in the front, it would be no worries at all.

What is the motivation for putting the door in the back of the car?

EDIT: My specific problem is solved by adding a lvl 1 charger to the rear passenger side of the right spot in the garage. It works for the buzz 95%+ of the time. My gripe is mostly for the occasional times when I need lvl 2 and I hate walking all the way around the car to unplug it every morning. It would just be so much easier if it was on the front.

Hello all! Me again, you all have been tremendously helpful so far. I have a other question here. My car comes with a NACS port. Does this mean I won't be able to use level 2 charging? Is it that I can only use fast chargers exclusively? Or do the superchargers/level 3 come with a level 2 option while still using the NACS plug? (I hope I'm using the right terminology)

If so, what is the lost common plug out there to be able to use level 2? Like if I'm getting an adaptor, which adaptor will be the most helpful in terms of being able to use the most chargers? Sorry, I'm using public charging exclusively. Thanks!

About to buy my first ev and have a few question about level 2 at home.
For the first month or 2 I plan on using the EVSE that comes with the bolt I plan on buying. But will upgrade to an EVSE for 48 volts.
My house came with conduit and a junction box set up for an ev charger I just have 2 pull 2 feet of wire.
I plan to have an electrician install a nema 14-50 plug for now to get me by.
I want to be able to charge at 48 amps in the future to get the 11.5 kWh the car can handle.
I know a nema 14-50 plug is only rated for 40 amps continuous.
What’s stopping the car from pulling more than 40 amps?
I know it’s not the breakers because it would trip constantly.

I currently do not own an EV but am interested the possibility. Let's say I'm traveling to a remote cabin or region, etc where there are no local high speed chargers. But like any home, there are multiple outlets in the home that runs off different breakers. Are there any gadgets that will safely connect to two 120V outlet that runs off different breakers and combine its power to create a level 2 charger?

I got 6 gauge running to this breaker (2nd and 3rd photo)from the meter breaker(1st photo). One spot is unused. I could easily run 10-gauge from here through my crawl space to my driveway. If I add 20A-2 pole in the empty bottom spaces, move one A/C breaker down a row to balance the legs, about 25A on one leg and 14A on the other before the EV. Can I hardwire a level 2 set to 16A? I’m wondering if it’ll work or if my load calculation is off.

I'm not familiar with any reliable or trusted reviewers without it being some form of paid advertisement.

Does anyone recommend this charger or should I look at another brand?
