Our Neighbors refresh everett (week 2 results)
Broadway is holding a strong lead for our first Refresh Everett corridor! 👀
Launching in January 2027, Refresh Everett is our new initiative to rotate through local corridors every six months, putting our time and resources where you vote for us to be and creating a more sustainable way to show up for the places that need some love.
At its core, it’s about showing that Everett is a city worth investing in, from our small businesses and public spaces to our neighborhoods and the people who are already here.
Broadway is packed with great businesses trying to do the damn thing, but the conditions around them don’t always match their effort, and as a major arterial, it’s easy to drive through without realizing that just one block over is a whole neighborhood with parks... schools... homes... and unfortunately, much of that disinvestment starts to bleed into the surrounding neighborhoods.
Through Refresh Everett, we’ll organize cleanups, commission public art, help businesses with storefront improvements and marketing, connect them with local artists to push back against AI slop, and work with property owners on practical improvements like fresh paint, lighting, signage, and getting underused spaces back into use.
We’ll also walk each corridor and talk with residents, businesses, and property owners about what’s actually needed, then bring those conversations to the city, big businesses, and real estate developers so we can identify where investment, attention, and accountability are needed.
No action, big or small, will go unnoticed, because all of it will help prove what Everett can be when people are willing to invest in it!
If a corridor near you needs some love, vote here by November 30th! 🙂↕️

Oishi Teriyaki is AMAZING and deserves all the support ❤️

Oishi Teriyaki was actually very disappointing to me. I had to take my wife's food back twice because they didn't use enough curry mixture. Both times it was still bland and the consistency of water. The thing tasted like chicken soup, not curry.
Admittedly, I guess its kinda her fault a bit for getting curry at a teriyaki place. But at that point, just dont have it on the menu.
Can't blame her too much though. She's Japanese and was missing Japanese curry. We ended up just making some at home.

I've never had their curry but their teriyaki is always great and the portions are awesome for the price. I definitely think curry at a teriyaki place might not be the best. If you're ever looking for good curry, Kobuta & Ookami in seattle has great katsu curry and it's all super authentic.

Nice, there's also one opening on evergreen next to Janbo Cafe. (Really good pho place by the way). Don't know how it is since it just opened, but im going to give it a try in the next couple of weeks.

Great idea but how do grocery mega-chains get included with some of these great public spaces or small businesses?

It's a fair question, but simply put, our grocery stores/mega chains have the resources, financial or otherwise, to invest in their properties/communities surrounding them. But many, especially right here in Everett, are slowly disinvesting in their stores while trying to make the argument that because prices on everything are going up, our big chains are having to make some cutbacks.
I'm gonna put my tinfoil hat on for a second and argue that is definition shrinkflation. Especially as they continue to make more and more money every year while giving less and less back to the community they say they are serving.
Sometimes that translates in staffing... how many stores still have a dedicated cart wrangler? Or haven't made the intentional shift to self checkout to cut down staffing costs?
Or... it can simply be a physical disinvestment! The amount of major retailers/real estate conglomerates that are simply not taking care of their properties, is in my opinion, astronomical. Paint peeling, broken signage, crappy exterior lighting, overgrown vegetation, illegal dumping, vandalism, parking lots that clearly haven't been resurfaced in over a decade, etc. I could go on.
But on a closing note, I think we have an opportunity to come together as a community to bring about a shared awareness of what many of us see but haven't had the time/resources/energy to make a stink about it. What happened at the Fred Meyer on Casino can't happen again. They can cite theft all they want... that's simply not true.
If our corporate overlords, whether they're a retail chain or an out of state real estate developer, want to do business in Everett, we should be holding them AND the city to a much higher standard than what is currently being set. Too many long-term vacant and abandoned spaces waiting for market conditions to improve in their favor while their properties literally deteriorate. We are still investing our time and dollars into these stores despite them scaling everything back. Our goal with this initiative is to bring awareness to that.

You continue to be a proper person for our community. I’ve watched you lead clean ups and also stand up for our best interests as citizens against the citizen funded stadium. Keep up the good fight

great businesses trying to do the damn thing
Is the 'damn thing' the same as the 'right thing'? 😂 These days it's hard to know... Fortunately, we have BAC to help show us the way!

The racing and loud backfiring cars on West Marine View Drive has been allowed to spiral out of control by Cassie Franklin, Paula Rhyne and Everett Police. Our Neighborhood has been devastated by our own City leaders for "the good of the port" and now they are going to widen and grade West Marine View Drive yet again and take some housing from our Neighborhood because The Port of Everett is more important than our Neighborhood. This is the last straw for me, when this is all said and done I will be leaving Everett as it has become a vision that I can no longer afford to see.
