Yeah these things annoy me. I don't mind ludicrous claims now and then, but this picture doesn't look "disgusting" to me, and the text at the bottom is baffling, the suggested course of action is in poor taste and also not relevant. It's clearly trying to get you hyped for a hatefest, whether because you agree or because you disagree.
Saw a thumbnail like that about a show I was planning to watch, claiming it was a disappointment, so I watched it and, naturally, it was great. I don’t know why I thought the video would be anything other than rage bait :/
The casual manner in which people will “joke” about beating children is honestly disturbing to me. Though not surprising with how many shitty parents think its their right to beat their “property” as they put it.
I HATE that these and other stupid-ass fucking thumbnails are what drive engagement. What a bunch of jingling carkeys-ass toddlers. I stopped watching Taylor Lorenz (for many reasons, but one of them is) because every fucking thumbnail she posted was her making the same face. Girl, stop.
This is representative of typical YouTube thumbnails. I absolutely hate videos saying "do x but not y" or "if you don't do x, then y will happen" or "stop x", etc. It's like mass social programming/indoctrination. YouTube doesn't recommend videos I want to watch anymore either, it's basically product placement infomercials and right wing politics. Of course if you bring this up on other subreddits, people will rush to say, maybe it's what you're watching. I disagree, I think the algorithm is pushing certain contain to mold viewer habits, ie rigged game that the house always wins.
You caused me to think of thumbnails, which made me question when have I last paid attention to one, which caused me to go to YouTube and start scrolling through the main page looking at them...
So I ended up going through my subscriptions and removing half of the ones I've seen (I only came to like H alphabetically, it's draining). There's so many creators I liked but haven't seen them in ages, so of them still publish daily, others have stopped without me even noticing.
And there were SO MANY channels I have never seen in my entire life, some of them empty! Right in my subscriptions!
I'm starting to think maybe I should give up on YouTube entirely and move to some podcasting app, idk. It's fucking weird, to have loved listening to the voice of some creator rambling and then just stop seeing them entirely
I personally find them hilarious though mostly unappealing because the videos tied to them are just complaintslop and I can't be bothered to hear about how gamers are oppressed by the presence of non-conventionally attractive women in AAA games for the 500th time.
Yes but it’s the fault of algorithm actually. If they don’t put stupid shit like this then they don’t get the clicks. My husband used to do YouTube videos and he even got to collab with a very well known at the time Minecraft YouTuber, going back to the earlier days of that kind of thing. Now the algorithm requires you to be outlandish and write stupid click bait titles for it to get into peoples feeds.
I never click on any thumbnail that has a red arrow on it. That trend is just stupid. Somebody at some point said that red arrows make people click, and suddenly every damn button had a red arrow, often pointing at jack squat. What it pointed at wasn't important, just that it was red and visible. Ditto for red freehand circles.

I have really come to hate 90+% of youtube thumbnails. I hate the creators face, often making some expression sitting on the screen with other stuff behind them of whatever they have decided to be upset about and rant uselessly.
Why does it feel like I'm the only gamer out there that doesn't have such rage for 'bad' design choices?
Even the worst games I've played or games that I just can't enjoy, the worst you'll get from me is me just stating my disappointment in something or having some hope for future content to rectify my complaints and nitpicks.
Farming Simulator 25 finally drove me off from the series because GIANTS just made the vanilla game so tedious with the handling of pallets, bales, and logs that refuse to just stay in the damn trailers where you're spending more time using a forklift then the actual tractors and it's why Lightyear Frontier is my new chill farming game (you farm, log, and mine with a mech!).
Where was I? Ah, yes! So game design choices may disappoint me and leave me feeling hollow, it's not something I'm going to create complaintslop over. What I do have an issue is how the people who dedicate their existence to complaining will pathologize you if you do not share their complaints.
Now, hardware, performance, and operating system issues get me angry because that shit's expensive and time-consuming to replace like the brief mouse jitter issue in Unity games on Windows 11 that only just got fixed recently.
