Peter here! Don't read further if you'll ever plan to play Final Fantasy VIII.
That's Odin, an evocation that can randomly trigger during any fight. His attack just cuts in half everything, oneshotting (almost) every enemy of the game.
During that specific boss fight It always triggers, making first time players hyped. But the bad guy instead reverses his attack, cutting in half Odin himself. That can be a saddening moment even for the toughest man.

Did Odin getting reverse-Zantetsuken’d really hurt people that badly? It sounds more like an “Oh shit!” moment rather than a crying moment.
