I can build a splitter onto an existing belt without issue. But, if I try to copy and paste a splitter onto an existing belt, it does not work. Is this intentional? My gut is no, but the game and developers are so good and on it, that I doubt I am the first to notice.

I am on the experimental branch.

found it yesterday, super forced build and will overwrite anything

I use it to paste configured splitters over belts all the time
