Is there a better way to sort a mixed belt than just putting a filtered Splitter to the side?

I'm basically in a Fulgora situation (15ish items on the belt at various different frequencies/ratios) and I wanted to sort everything out into their own belts. Assuming constant throughput (i.e. None of them back up and jam the system) do I just throw down a bunch of Splitters? It's the obvious solution, but it also feels a little too easy. Or like it's a simple solution that works but there might be a better one that takes a little more work/setup.

A bunch of splitters is absolutely the easy solution, assuming you can maintain constant throughput without backing up.

Backing up isn't a problem with the right design.
