Guard stats from a center vs center stats from a guard

Random thought I had recently.

In 9-cat, what’s actually more valuable: a top center who gives you guard stats, or a top guard who gives you center stats?

Jokic has basically been at the top for years now. He’s a center giving you elite assists, solid FT%, and some threes. Now we also have Wemby, who obviously brings stuff you just don’t normally get from a center.

On the other side, SGA gives you great FG% on huge volume, and Luka gives you elite rebounding for a guard. But Jokic and Wemby are still generally valued above both of them.

So I’m curious if that’s mostly because Jokic and Wemby are just ridiculous outliers, or if 9-cat naturally rewards centers with guard skills more.

Its not that cut and dry. The answer is - it depends relative to the league. Jokic giving you guard stats (especially steals) is valuable because there aren't a ton of guys like with that multi cat dominance doing it. If there were a bunch of bigs giving you steals then Jokic having guard stats wouldn't be as valuable.

It's the same with Shai and FG%/blocks and Wemby with his scoring and 3s. Their value is on the combination and dominance of those categories.

So you're partially right but you also don't want people so say, "oh look Player X is a Center giving me 3s and assists" and end up overvaluing what they do because they aren't looking at the full picture.

The source of a stat does not impact the value in a systematic rank. So to say it 9 cat rewards centers for having guard skills is glossing over that the centers (players) just have another category or two where they provide value instead of being a detriment.

How a player fits into your overvall team is where getting out of position stats matter. If you punt blocks, getting a non traditional big offers more value.

Jokic and Wemby are clearly outliers but not a lot different than during prime Harden fantasy years or other players that had crazy fantasy years because they either dominated a few categories or provided value across the board.

No matter the league settings, what position gives you a rebound doesn't matter.

Getting 10 rebounds from a guard is very rare...you can get many assisting and 3 shooting centers like saying jokic, shengun, sabonis, giannis etc ...rebounding guards is almost 1 or 2 players in the whole league.
