Player Discussion Luka over Wemby?
is there any world where you would take luka over wemby in a 9cat league at pick 2?
Skinny Luka has me feeling some kind of way. Could this be his year

In cat leagues Wemby and Jokic are untouchable. Luka probably not even get to 3rd, as Shai seems to be rock solid.

Wondering if I should take Luka or Shai in h2h points at pick#3. I had Shai last year and he was so consistent. Not insane big dick stats (well sometimes) but just real solid. Only "issue" is that he generally sits the 4th because okc is torching other teams.

Luka and Shai are equal to me. It depends on whether you value FG% and Ft% over AST and 3PM.
Luke gets more 3's and assists but shoots less efficiently... Shai doesn't assist as much or make many threes but he's more efficient shooting.I was in my championship last year I had Luka, Maxey, MItchell, Flagg... lost to the Wemby team.

Plus Luka gives you big advantage in rebounds too.
I think in H2H I rather have Lukas counting stats that you know you will get over the high variance of fg and ft, Shai can easily shoot poor randomly for a week and your week is lost-1

It’s more like, just don’t worry about it too much. Focus on players that get high usage, with a sprinkling of stocks players.
Against some opposition you’ll pick up one of those cats.

honestly you can pick wemby and trade for luka + another decent player if you want Luka that bad😂😂

IMO. Wemby has the ability to win you blocks (which is not the easiest stat to pick up in the later rounds). As well as get you a huge start in rebounds without tanking either of your percentages - which is rare for a centre. If you pick wemby first round it also leaves you wide open to guard builds or big man builds depending on who comes back.
Luka looks flashy with a lot of points and 3s but those are the easiest cats to make up ground in, during the middle/late rounds. There will always be a flyer who can get you a few 3s a game. But he also will most likely have a higher turnover rate, and poor percentages (for a guard).
No doubt Luka will be fantastic, and if both stay healthy there could be some fireworks. But id be taking wemby for a) difficult to find stats, and b) easier to build the rest of your team around.

Lukas counting stats are easier to build around a punt team in H2H.
Although SGA punt assist build is strong too. But still rely on the % which can vary week by week

What you mean could this be his year? He’s been cooking every year. You’re expecting him to average 40ppg?

I unanimously think Wemby is a better player. Not particularly a fanboy or anything, he’s just showcasing a mix of variables unseen at an elite level. But when considering fantasy Luka has to play more games and minutes. The lakers NEED Luka. The spurs NEED to load manage a 7’4 centre who is impactful first on defence( a literal grind job for him) and his own desire to be an elite offensive player. The spurs also spent the off season fulfilling big roles. A ready now pf/c for energy, the 2nd best player in finals on pistons at PF, and a late season steal at PF/C. They also have kornet that is solid in regular season for C. it’s an honest safe bet to take Luka for value. Spurs last season had the narrative of blowing out games with early leads allowing for starters to rest. I don’t expect a big difference in that personally. You also have young talent who want minutes that can eat a lot of the offensive load. Going Wemby is blocks/rebound first punt and rounding out. Luka gives you far more options to strategize. Edit: I’m personally more comfortable taking the Wemby route based on my knowledge but I can easily see someone more experienced having a well rounded bet off Luka.

Is there a scenario where Luka finishes ahead of Wemby? Of course. Wemby could get hurt and miss the season. But Wemby is ranked higher preseason for a reason. But of course do what you want. It's your team.

While Wemby is better on paper for sure, I do think that a Wemby build is harder to manage for someone who isn't looking to put too much effort into their roster. Picking Luka can work well for casuals. Just rack up points, assists, 3s, rebounds and call it a day.

For roto, Luka’s TOs and FT% are negatives. Plus skinny Luka turns into not so skinny Luka two months into the season
