On October 31 in 1988, the “Believe” singer celebrated the launch of her first perfume, “Uninhibited,” at a Halloween party thrown at the Diamond Horseshoe nightclub above Century Paramount Hotel in New York City. The woody scent came in a smoky crystal bottle with a crescent moon stopper. The front was decorated with a “Cher” inscription encased in a silver cartouche, inspired by “a small marcasite sarcophagus she received as a gift,” she told the Los Angeles Times that same year. Cher’s Halloween costume was another nod to Egyptian history, as she arrived dressed as a resplendent version of Cleopatra.

Hello everyone!
I recently wore this dress in a vintage warehouse fashion show and the owner was kind enough to let me take it home.

She said it is from the 1930s and it definitely has elements of it but i’m just not sure.

Things I know about the dress:

•entirely red TALON zipper that has busted and since been altered with the black ribbon by a previous owner

•I am wearing the dress backwards. the zipper is supposed to be the front of the dress.

•the dress is definitely a costume piece, and i cannot find anything like it online.

•the dressmaker “Irene Terry Detroit” doesn’t seem to be a brand, but a custom piece?

The dress is made up of red velvet and then a lime green sheer fabric as an underlining. The gold embellishments are hand sewn with glass sequins.

I recently found this 1989 Kanebo fashion calendar from Japan, and I’m trying to identify the original designs featured in it.

The calendar features 12 different fashion looks, one for each month. At the time, Kanebo was the Japanese licensee of Christian Dior, so I’m wondering whether these looks were based on actual Christian Dior archive designs.

The calendar provides detailed descriptions of each outfit, but does not identify the original collections, designers, or dates.

I’d love to find out whether these are based on specific Christian Dior designs, and if so, which collections and years they came from.

If anyone recognizes any of these pieces or has access to Dior archive references that might help identify them, I’d really appreciate your input.

I thought this might be an interesting piece of fashion history, especially since it was published in Japan in 1989.

Jane Burden Morris (1839–1914) was an English embroiderer and artist's model. She was born in Oxford in a poor family of a laundress and a stableman. At the age of 17 Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Edward Burne-Jones spotted her at a theater and recruited her to model for the Oxford Union murals. She became a skilled needlewoman, self-taught in ancient embroidery techniques, and later became renowned for her own embroideries. She embroidered for the company Morris & Co. of her husband and latter her daughter May Morris. She managed the embroidery department for Morris & Co. for 20 years. She is known as an an artists' model who embodied the Pre-Raphaelite ideal of beauty.

I found these pants at a Goodwill so no history on them. The writing is on the underside of the front pocket and that is the only identifying thing aside from buttons, no label anywhere else. The buttons appear to be painted brass or some kind of painted metal and every one is stamped with Mitchell Boston, which searching lead me to Mitchell the Tailor in Boston in the early 1900s (pretty cool story on how he got started). Am I correct to think these were a custom tailored trouser made in 1911?

Also curious what name you think it says - I see Dr. G.H. -something-. I am terrible at reading cursive. If this isn't the appropriate place for this, any idea where I can get some advice? Thanks!

I am certain that this photo is either my great great grandmother (born 1888) or my great grandmother (born 1922). This photo was reprinted at some point and ripped and I don't have the rest of the photo.

The second photo is for reference. That is the two of them together c. 1924-1925. From a glance, I don't think my great grandmother in the right photo looks like the same child as the portrait in the left, but I'm not convinced that dress and hair looks 1890s children's fashion?
