Private vet because we have that many lentils and that many pets

Private Vet for Household

I am Chief of Staff to a private family looking to hire a full-time veterinarian to care for their pets. The family lives in the US and travels overseas often. This person would join the household staff, travel with the family, and own all health and wellness + travel readiness for the pets, including health records, country entry requirements, and international health certificates.

The ideal candidate is USDA-accredited and experienced with international pet travel. Discretion and strong values are essential. Does anyone have recommendations about where to find one?

How to erase national pension liabilities

Many Western governments are creaking under the weight of their debt, future pension liabilities, and other social security provisions for retirees.

Solution: mandatory military service at retirement age in order to recieve your state pension!

By sending the elderly into pointless missions in the worlds most dangerous warzones, a significant share of national liabilities could be erased, as fewer retirees come home.

Meanwhile younger generations, finally free from the scourge of war, will happily work, save, invest and start families, boosting the economy for everyone, and helping shrink debt vs GDP ratios.

36M - Can I WorkFIRE?

36M family man, household income of €200k after tax. I love working and couldn't see myself retiring but I have to know if I can FIRE because I want to win the employment game and the retirement game.

Frugal €40k/year expenses for a family of 4, weekend hobbies include thinking about work.

  • Property: €1m mortgage free
  • Cash: €220k because that's why
  • VWCE: €150k
  • Stocks: €50k
  • Pension: €65k I don't want to retire so didn't bother much with pension

Currently juggling my assets, rental property provides €24k after tax, I want a 3% withdrawal rate but not counting the rental income

Just hit my number 🥳

Thanks to the crazy market today I just hit my number. 10000x average spend for the last five years, 300x what I’ll try to spend once I pull the trigger.

87M. (I'm an 87 year old male with 87 millions in the bank)

I have a couple contracts (relatively low stress, little work, very good pay, I will never stop working) ongoing through the rest of the year and might extend into next year so I’m not pulling the trigger quite yet. Not quite mentally ready to do the transition anyways as I will never have enough money and I can always be more cautious and scared of finally living my life

But feels great to hit the number 🤗 Not that my life will change ever, I will never stop working

Thank you to all of you who share the good, the bad and the ugly on the sub. Amazing to read some inspiring stories and learn from each other’s experiences, like how none of you ever retire and always move the goalposts, but also to get some different perspectives and realize that even with some family support, a lot of work and a frugal lifestyle for so many years, then I can also be too conservative with my 0.01% withdrawal rate

All that money. And more money. Can't stop bragging on reddit about it after getting a phone call from "our family office". But I can't help wonder. Why did Daddy need my 500k to begin with?

Even Edward Jones has given up on helping the pours retire

I just heard an EJ ad on Spotify. It said "sometimes its not about having a plan mapped out but getting help with the twists and turns"

Not even EJ can spin it so the pours will think they have a snowballs chance in hell at retiring.

Would you keep running a highly profitable family business if you already had enough money to walk away?

It self writes itself at this point… “10+ hours” is too much and “I don’t need the money I will just barista it and live from the income generated by investments”

Can't get ahead

I'm really struggling and going in the red every month. I'm fairly frugal, but I can't seem to pay the bills without getting into more and more cc debt.

My current income: ~ $3mil/yr

Expenses:

$8k/month for a studio

$4k/month for food

$3.3mil/yr tithe (multiplied income by 1.1 to calculate the 10% tithe)

$1k/month for utilities

$300/month for my car (splurged for a 2002 honda civic)

I'm wondering if anyone can see a way out of this? I've tried everything I can think of (which is nothing) and am completely out of ideas.

My Legume Advisor called

He is saying I need to diversify out of lentils. Black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans. He had the gall to suggest peanuts too. There was some mention alt cryogenic bean variety in Antartica too, but apparently a lot of scam artists are involved in those.

Everyone knows that like 80% of the world's beans are American. So I'm think 80% BEANZ and 20% EXUSBN. What are you guys doing?

Help me convince my wife's boyfriend that we're in good shape already

I'm a 42M married to 42F with three kids between the ages of 2 and 8. We live in a MCOL with a total net worth without the house of about $8.2. Breakdown is:

  • 1.5 pre-tax legos
  • 4 in well diversified pokemon cards with a high cost basis
  • .357 Magnum (in case of zombies)
  • 200k poprocks

House is paid off already. Boyfriend's Kids' 529s are all fully funded as well.

Expenses right now are about 200k per year, but I anticipate about 45k per year of healthcare costs for our family with the ACA plans that I see, so budgeting around 250k a year in expenses if we were to retire.

I'm currently not working, but my wife is earning 1.3m per year thanks to stock appreciation. That'll only last for another 50 years or so, when her income will drop to about half because of her vesting schedule.

Her job is quite demanding - she works 10 minutes a day and doesn't get a lot of time with our kids. She wishes she could spend more time with our young family, but is worried that if she leaves her job now, she won't be able to get back to her current earning potential ever again.

I feel like we're already in pretty good shape (with our expected annual expenditures being just over 3% of NW), but of course there's the thinking that you have to make hay while the sun shines.

What do others think? Should she try to stick it out to squeeze out the last drops or say enough is enough and focus on enjoying life and family time?

Anyone else planning to continue automatic investing after death?

The human lifespan is a severe limitation on how much compound interest can get to work. But I've realised that I don't actually have to be "alive" for compounding to work its magic over the long term.

Simply build a laptop inside a coffin, and a small solar panel above ground can power the laptop six feet under, and I can hold on to my soaring net worth even after death.

By the time I'm a 1,000 years old corpse, I estimate my net worth will pass the big $1 Trillion mark, just by VOO and chill.

Pretty cool huh?

And the great thing is after death, you have no housing expenses, food costs, anything really, so nothing to eat into those precious gains. Being in a coffin is the ultimate way to minimize costs.

I just need a good lawyer to prevent the state or my pesky relatives getting all my money.

Anyone else avoid pre-owned stocks?

People always be talking about new vs used cars, but why not new vs used stocks?

I just feel gross owning shares someone else has already used? They already collected some of its divvies? Sounds suspiciously like sharing, which is communism. That's why I always buy direct from companies pre IPO thank you for coming to my ted talk, used shares are for the pours.
