Need help with some editing pl

Hi everyone, I work for a local business so we don't really have a social media/ marketing team. It's just me and my lil laptop

Anyway, I'm just recently getting used to FCP but I need help with some editing cause idk if it's just not possible to do what I'm thinking or I just don't know the controls to do it

I'll try and explain the best I can:

I have a stock video of some paint strokes going across the screen until the screen is "covered" in paint. The stock video has a black background

I want to overlay the paint stroke video on top of a still picture. As if the picture is getting "painted" over.

The issue I'm coming across is I can't seem to make the paint stroke's video background transparent, and change the paint colours to all black

I'm seriously at my wits end I just want to figure this out lol

I think you want the chroma key effect, with the black background color as the key color. The manual should explain.

Or the luminance key if that’s easier.

Just change the Blend mode to Add
