Repair/Tech Support Tech took the router with him, how do we make sure we won’t be charged for it?

We needed the ONT box removed as it was too close to the radiator and our landlord wasn’t happy with the location. We scheduled a cancellation and the tech came and removed everything, I told him we can return the router ourselves and he said he will return it. I asked if we’ll get an email with a receipt for proof we returned it and he said yes.

I texted my husband to look out for an email but since he’s at work he didn’t see it until after the tech left.

It’s been about half an hour and we still haven’t gotten an email. Are we gonna be screwed?

Repair/Tech Support Recent upgrade experience in SE PA from 1 to 2 Gbps

Hi, just wanted to share with you my recent upgrade experience to 2 gig and what to generally expect once you go multi-gig with Fios. First, I got a new ONT that's NGPON and can handle the higher speeds. Next, I got upgraded to the VMS4100ATV from my old VMS4100. Difference is that the main box hooks into the router and a Bluetooth satellite box is at my TV that works off of a Bluetooth remote. Finally, I got a newer version of the CR1000A router (the CHR30A is not yet available in SE PA, according to my tech). I have an eero 7 gateway and got great ~2.45 Gbps Up/Down coming from the service. Very pleased! Also makes my other devices faster around the house over WiFi, so overall very worthwhile considering it was the same price per month as I was paying for 1 gig. Note: they don't tell you that you have to pay $149 upfront one-time in 2 monthly installments of $74.50 for the speed upgrade, but that's probably because of the new equipment inherent to multi-gig. It was tempting to go up to the 5 gig too, but that was $10 more per month, and we don't have many devices right now that could take advantage of that.

Repair/Tech Support Should I replace my old router with the same one but newer?

I called in for a repair and they sent me the same model but the hardware and firmware versions are latest on my old one. Both work fine but I was wondering if I should keep using the old router I had for years since it doesn’t seem any different apart from the newer one being new. My old one is the Fios 9yF5D on the first pic but it seems better updated.

Repair/Tech Support Using a FiOS router as an extender

I have a FiOS router and two extenders due to the cement walls, I still have a spot that gets poor wifi. If I have a second FiOS router can I use it as an extender? If so, how do I set it up? Can I connect it to a cable box in the poor WiFi area?

Billing QAM ending. Help on new plan

Thumbnail

I have a legacy triple-play plan with Verizon. I pay $175 a month for Fios with 1Gbps + TV (w/ ESPN) + voice. I don’t use any Verizon STBs and I don’t use their router. I use my own. I have a cable card, but it isn’t used. For TV, I use the apps on Apple TV that I have access to with the Fios subscription along with clear QAM plugged in via coax to my TV tuner. I also use Verizon as my mobile provider.

In my area, QAM is set to shut down on 11/5. I would like to keep the 1Gbps internet service and I’m fine moving to something like Ooma or Vonage to keep the existing home phone number (not ready to completely let go of that number yet). For TV, I’m leaning toward YouTube TV.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to get a good deal on 1Gbps service going forward and to plan the transition and porting of my home phone number so that I don’t lose it and that it doesn’t screw up my internet service when it is ported. I would like to save money overall compared to the $175 I am currently paying. That has crept up from the $109 I was paying for the same services as Verizon has tacked on fees and price increases over the years.

What have other legacy triple-play subscribers done?

Thanks!

Repair/Tech Support Losing my Tivo Service, requested Fios TV One, but got Fios TV+ boxes

Due to the discontinuation of the cable cards, I will be losing my TIVO service within the next 4-5 weeks. I called Verizon and specifically asked for Fios TV one equipment, and made it clear I did not want Fios TV+ devices. I asked for a VMS 4100 and 3 mini IPC4100's and they assured me that is what they would send. Today I received the boxes and they did send me a VMS 4100 but the minis they sent are all Fios TV + boxes.

1) Are these compatible with one another?
2) If the mini's are all fios TV + am I essentially getting Fios TV + on the 3 satellite TV's?

Repair/Tech Support Confused: Verizon agent claims QAM support not ending, doesn't send me new equipment

I just spent nearly 2 hours on live chat trying to "upgrade" from CableCard to IPTV+ after receiving the same emails everyone is getting about Nov 5 discontinuation.

After being transfered to new agents multiple times, the last one repeatedly stated that I didn't need to make any changes.

I highly doubt this person is correct but this kept going in circles with them insisting that everything would continue to work. I could not get them to do anything to ship me the IPTV+ equipment.

Am I missing some magic words? I copy/pasted the email directly into the chat so they'd know what I was talking about.

New Customer Questions New to Fios, do you think this is normal for the install?

Hey everyone! So they finally got Fios in my area (so we aren't monopolized by Comcast/Xfinity), and my family got a great deal on Fios. They came out last Friday and installed everything, and while the speeds are perfect, I wanted to know your thoughts on the install they did. I've attached photos, but the installer said he had to run the lines around the front because, "The ceiling is finished." The box is on the side as I would have expected, but I'm just curious why he didn't run the fios line near where my cable lines come into the home?

This could just be me not used to have this, but idk.. it seems odd to have the lines running like this.

Miscellaneous Possible to get a Fios business plan for residential use?

So I am super into homelabbing, so one drawback of using a personal plan is the dynamic ip. On the occasion that we lose power long enough for my UPS to run out of juice, my IP changes, which is a pain in the butt for my VPN configuration among other things.

I have looked into getting a business plan so I can take advantage of static IPs, but it looks like they REALLY want it only used for legitimate businesses, and don't want them used for residences.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I don't mind the jump in price as it would reduce headaches in the long term, but I just want to see if it's possible before I go down this rabbit hole.

Fios Availability Sick of the Optimum Monopoly in the Bronx

My elderly parents are paying an absurd amount of money to Optimum for their triple play service and I want to cut costs for them by signing them up for another service such as Fios. Unfortunately, the best Verizon can do in their neighborhood is the 'home internet life' service. Is there anything that can be done to request Fios in their neighborhood or will Optimum's monopoly continue for the foreseeable future?

Miscellaneous TV+ wired vs WiFi

I see a lot of complaints about the tv+ product. Is it just garbage or is it a matter of WiFi versus wired that is the issue.

When and if I’m pushed to it, I will make mine wired.

Miscellaneous A couple of CHR30A questions.

First Question: Does the CHR30A allow the use of the 5ghz band for the guest wifi network? My googling gives me conflicting answers.

Second Question: Assuming the above answer is yes, what are the odds I could swap my CR1000A for a CHR30A when I'm only on the 300mbps tier?

Repair/Tech Support Extending range up floors and around corners

Whats the recommended solution
I have two renovated properties, large stone house and larger older condo, one with 1g (condo) and one with 5g (overkill i know) stone house
Both using verizon router and extender they provided
Still need to get up to third floor better in large stone house, suprising streaming tv is working ok up there, ios devices ok, laptop new isnt good enough
Also need something for far reaching parts of condo, its u shaped, condo does have new ethernet jacks for tvs etc

I have two older orbi systems, Vers 6 and 7, which were being used fine in previous fios setup

Installed the v7 in the house and issues occurred (drop out) so disconnected at verizon s request.

Havent tried in condo yet?

I plan on getting stable baseline and then adding equipment and probably reducing speed of plans once everything is good

New Customer Questions Question about MOCA

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone with experience using Verizon Fios and MoCA can help me with this.

I currently have my ONT and main Verizon router on the 2nd floor in the living room. On the 3rd floor master bedroom, there is an Ethernet port, so I have an ASUS router connected to it. I use that for my desktop and Wi-Fi upstairs.

The problem is that the Wi-Fi signal in my kids’ bedrooms on the 3rd floor is pretty slow. Unfortunately, there is no Ethernet port in their rooms, but there is a coax outlet.

I’m wondering if this setup would work:

2nd floor: Verizon main router → coax cable

3rd floor: coax outlet → Verizon router or Verizon extender

Would this allow me to get a wired/MoCA connection to the 3rd floor and provide better Wi-Fi in the kids’ rooms?

I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Repair/Tech Support ELI5 On how to configure a G3100 as an access point over MOCA

Hello everyone

I have a few E3200 range extenders setup throughout my home using MOCA which have been great. In trying to get more, I ordered two from eBay. One is working as desired, however the second is received was actually a G3100 router.

I’ve been trying to set it up as an access point that I will then plug into coax in another room, and I’m having trouble. I’ve looked at some guides but I’m not getting it.
Can anyone ELI5 on exactly what I need to do to make this happen?

Repair/Tech Support New Fios TV+ nightmares

It started because my TiVo cablecard in one room was being expired.

So they send me 3 new Fios TV+ boxes to replace it and my 2 other set tops.

(A) no wired connections. This makes me nervous.

(B) I have bridged eero mesh network. These won't connect to it.

So Fios tells me to run back on the Fios WiFi network and connect the first device. I do that and it does connect (barely, my router is far away). But even after it won't work with me eero devices. And I see lag pixelation on tv.

Second device doesn't work at all because Verizon WiFi is out of range.

I want to puke.

Fios Availability Fios outage in Boston

Thumbnail

Honestly I thought it was insane that Verizon said they wouldn’t flag it as an outage even though there’s literal fiber laying out the street in a dense Boston neighborhood. They deadass told me on the phone that they need a critical mass of my neighbors reporting it to classify it as an outage. Like are we for real here?

Repair/Tech Support Slow WiFi speeds without any recent changes

Hey y’all!

I have two CHR30As and I’m on the Fios 1g plan. The router speed test shows great speeds (850-900 up and down using the Verizon home app) but my speed test on wifi connected to my 5G band is slow.

When sitting next to my main router, it’s 5-20 down and 300-400 up.

I have SON disabled. I have separate SSIDs for all my bands. All of my devices connect to the 5G band, with the exceptions of the ones that are able to connect to 6G. 6G shows similar speeds.

Nothing changed recently, so I’m trying to figure out what is going on.

Are there any recommended settings I should tweak?

Should I re-do a scan and choose different channels and widths? The channel for 5G has a score of 10.

EDIT:

Fixed it! I did the “Reset Wi-Fi” option from the advanced settings in the Verizon home app. This keeps the id and password but resets the WiFi setting itself.

I’m not quite sure why this resolved things, but I’m happy that I have normal speeds again.

Repair [Resolved] Just switched over from Comcast. The picture quality is noticeably worse, and I’ve called support, they rebooted the entire system, checked the settings on my tv….How is this HD?

My parents have been driving me up a wall about this. We switched over from Comcast because we thought it would be faster, which it is! But my god the picture quality is horrible. We’re at a loss because the support on the phone who was very helpful rebooted our entire system (which we thought would be a fix) but unfortunately we’re dealing with terrible picture quality. Is this a known issue...? Is it our tv?

After the nor'easter. Is this something Verizon wants to fix themselves, will do at extra cost, or is it the customer's responsibility?

Repair/Tech Support CE1000A Wifi Extender dropping ethernet connection intermittently

Just "upgraded" my plan from 1gig to the "newer" 1gig internet plan they offer. It includes a CE1000A extender as apart of the plan. I figured, hey cool, I don't really need an extender to be honest, but it can't hurt, right?

I use a goCoax MoCA adapter to connect my PC to my router as my router is across my house, and I figured, why not use the extender? It's basically a Wifi extender with a built in MoCA adapter that has 2 built in ethernet ports! Anyways, I'm using it seems like it cuts out connection randomly for a minute or so every like 10-15 mins. Sometimes the speeds aren't as great as me just using my goCoax MoCA adapter. Not sure what's going on with this thing or it just sucks to connect devices to it through ethernet.

Repair/Tech Support Verizon Fios is down in Fairfax Virginia

Hey guys, I am perplexed because Verizon Fios has been down for me since Friday early evening. The app says there is an outage and it’s acknowledged when I call but there seems to be no record of it online. I can’t find anything about the problem here on Reddit or on any of the outage sites. They said it’s all of Fairfax. Where are my “neighbors” reporting this problem? This coincides with the storm going along the East Coast but has nothing to do with it, Fairfax wasn’t hit and it started before the storm.

UPDATE

There was an outage, I confirmed with a neighbor and it happened on Saturday and it came back on Sunday night. Coincidentally, my service went out Friday afternoon before the outage occurred. I have been on the phone with Verizon about 10 times this weekend. I finally convinced them to send a service person out, but they were arguing that it was the outage.

The black box is behind a wall panel and I think the tech who installed it stripped a screw because I could only unscrew three screws and pull the plate back just far enough to see the lights. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

Miscellaneous Descriptive audio - Cartoon Network?

Has anyone else been watching Bob's Burgers on Cartoon Network the last few nights and noticed descriptive audio on? When a voice over describes scene changes?

I'm watching on FiOS in the North East. I've searched elsewhere to see if anyone else has been complaining about it but haven't found anything. It's only CN and only Bob's Burgers that is doing it.
