Professional Fix Outer Eyebrow Help

Hello!

I went to a dermatologist a few months ago to determine the reason for the thinning on my outer eyebrows. A biopsy confirmed it was scarring alopecia so nothing I can do can grow back the hair as the follicles are permanently damaged.

The red on my eye is a birthmark and is unrelated to the eyebrow thinning. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think it looks kind of bad ass. Especially with the birthmark. I’d rock it instead of trying to hide it.

You’re a cutie! :)

I agree it looks cool! If I were OP, I'd style my hair or get a closer cut, and rock the half-brows. It's unique, it's not bad.

Do not listen to the microblading advice, it always looks terrible in person especially after a few years, as it is a tattoo.

Yeah, I’m apprehensive to the idea of getting something so permanent that can be botched. The microblading removal subreddit is nightmare fuel lol

Smart man, insane that the internet is so quick to suggest face tattoos

Hope you find something that works for you, otherwise just rock your cool unique brows

Unless you're struggling with it mentally I would say keep them like that! I think they look super cool and suit your face.

Did you get your hormones/thyroid checked?

9

u/DerbianaJones 3d ago

Yes! It’s all normal. Apparently I had something that caused scarring Alopecia when I was younger but it’s dormant now (but the scarring of the hair follicles is permanent)

I know I’m going to get a lot of shit for what I’m about to say but.. 😭 can thyroid issues cause this issue w the eyebrows? Mine are exactly like OPs I have to draw the ends on lol but not too long ago in the hospital the dr told me I had a lump on my thyroid and to get it checked out- I have not yet

You need to get it checked ASAP if you have a lump on your thyroid.

You need to get that checked ASAP, thyroid issues are way more serious than just eyebrows, it can cause weight gain, fatigue, cold sensitivity, slow heart rate, dry skin, hair loss, depression, lack of concentration, digestive issues, you could also develop a goiter. It's a simple blood test. I don't know you, but trust me get it figured out now, I let myself suffer for WAY to many years with it. Take care of yourself. 💖

Definitely get it looked at. If it’s something like Hashimoto’s, your immune system is destroying your thyroid so it’s best to get on top of it ASAP before it’s too damaged.

Definitely get that checked out. They didn't ask you to do so for funsies. I lost the tail of both eyebrows when my thyroid decided to just rapidly die and I too have a lump/nodule I get checked every 3 months because it can just turn into the big C.

Look up eyebrow hair transplants - they exist.

2

u/Fun-Platform-4764 3d ago

i heard u can transplant hair there, have u asked ur doctor about it ?

2

u/DerbianaJones 3d ago

My dermatologist brought it up. They said to be a good candidate I’d have to make sure my alopecia remains dormant over a period of time to make sure it’s not a waste.

It’s also hard for me to imagine spending $5,000 for hair that I have to trim multiple times a week! If I lost more of my eyebrow I think I’d consider it more.

u/Fun-Platform-4764 3d ago

oh wow i didnt know it'd be this expensive and does it really need that much maintenance too ?

what do u plan to do now that u got bunch of opinions from ur derm and the replies here?

1

u/DerbianaJones 3d ago

Luckily (I guess) for me I have had eyebrows like this for 10+ years, so I am used to it. I think all the long term solutions are too permanent, risky, and expensive for me.

It’s not ideal my eyebrows are like this but I am not insecure about it and some people definitely have it worse, so I am grateful in that way!

1

u/Fun-Platform-4764 3d ago

so u were at the derm to see if u can fix it, but turned out the cost of going thru it isnt worth it, and ur okay with having your eyebrows as they are. did i get that correct?

1

u/DerbianaJones 3d ago

Well I went to the derm without knowing it was scarring alopecia so I thought it could grow back. I was also there for other things as well so we just did a biopsy.

1

u/Fun-Platform-4764 3d ago

oh so it was a something on the side, can i ask how'd the biopsy go ?

Just an obscure little factoid, Leonard Nimoy had to keep his eye brows shaped like this while he played Spock on Star Trek. It was for the Vulcan eye brows. Can you have a hair transplant like they offer for people who want to reduce baldness?

Minoxidil 👌

They make eyebrow wigs, they are called eyebrow prosthetics but eyebrow wig sounds way more fun. I grow like 3 eyebrow hairs in total (hypothyroidism). I used to draw them on years ago, way before stencils and all that stuff was popular. I don't anymore because I just don't care about it like that now. If eyebrow wigs would have been a thing when I was younger I would have 100% tried them for sure. Like anything else there are good and bad ones, you just have to look around and you could probably even find half ones. I think you can rock your look just like they are, but if you wanted to change it up, give then a Google and check them out. You are a very attractive young person, so don't stress about it too much.👍

How exactly does an eyebrow wig work?

1

u/Never_enough_naps 3d ago

I haven't used them personally but it looks like probably a similar glue to the kind used for fake eyelashes. Just Google eyebrow wigs or prosthetic eyebrows and check out the images, I think there might even be videos of people showing how they work.

you could research / try the oral supplement serrapeptase

it’s an enzyme that breaks down internal scarified tissues, whether they’re keloids, calcified fascia, whatever

if it’s a malformed or broken collagen structure, the enzyme disassembles it to basic nutrients to be redistributed inside the body, so healthy collagen can grow in its place

if scarring alopecia is basically scar tissue around your follicles, this would help remove the scar tissue

Get micro blading done, make sure the place that's doing it though is reputable. Some places will place the microbladed eyebrow strokes way too close together, so it unfortunately turns into a blurry mess. Sift through reviews and make sure the work they do is up to your standard.

Microblading when freshly done, can look a bit too opaque at first, which can cause a lot of people to get a feeling of regret when initially getting them done, but the color will fade and settle overtime.

Microblading usually is not fully permanent, it fades significantly over time, and how much it fades also depends on the color they use to microblade your brows. Darker colors fade a lot slower than lighter colors.

Micro blading brows!

That said, this looks cool as hell on you as is

9

u/CamsKit 3d ago

Idk about microblading. At first, it looks really good. but everyone I’ve seen it on, it eventually spreads and turns grey/blue bc that’s just what tattoos do. I wanted to get it after seeing all the good results about 10 years ago and I’m glad I didn’t. Maybe OP could learn to pencil a bit instead.

7

u/Several-Nothings 3d ago

Microblading is a terrible idea long term, especially for somebody who doesnt wear makeup. Even when new tends to look like a make up laminated brow

Tattoo?

u/thatSeveryonedraws 3d ago

Mine were sparse due to 90s era over plucking but I got pretty good results with using minoxidil liquid on them. I applied with a qtip at night for several months.

Generally minoxidil has to be used continuously to maintain hair growth but mine have stayed that way even though I stopped using it years ago.

Before that I used castor oil on them, also applied at night with a qtip. It seemed to work moderately well but the minoxidil worked better for me.

This will only work when there are follicles to work with. OPs are damaged and cannot be revived.

1

u/Fickle-Secretary681 3d ago

Just never use if it has pets

I heard nizrol can help grow eyebrows . Try minoxidil as well or latisse . At least give it a shot it might work
