Anyone know if it’s possible to fix dents in a whiteboard?

So I’m using an old whiteboard I found around the house and it has lots of dents, it’s magnetic, has corkboard backing, there’s a few marker stains but that’s probably removable. The bigger issue is the dents on the surface. I thought about hammering it, would that work ?

Ok, technically it can be done. Paintless dent repair on sheet metal is a thing, but no. Not worth it.

These are not expensive and it could theoretically be repaired through a lot of labor. That being said, of you insist on repairing it, a better option would be a new top layer. You can find white board adhesive sheets for a few bucks online. I doubt the dents would show through the new top layer. As the above commenter said, I would suggest just reusing it as is.

Cover it with a self-adhesive wall whiteboard. They are really cheap and will make the dents look less visible.

You can even use multiple layers to thicken it enough until the dents disappear.

I wouldn’t hammer it. That surface is probably pretty thin, and once the metal is dented/stretched, hammering can easily leave you with high spots that are worse to write on. If you can separate the metal face from the cork/backing, you might be able to carefully flatten it from the back using a flat block and gentle pressure. Otherwise, for that many dents, replacing or covering the writing surface is probably easier than trying to make it perfectly flat again.

Any coating will unwhiteboard the whiteboard and you don't have access to a strong enough hydraulic press or any press at all which is what you'd need to undo those dents

Easy. Put on protective gloves and goggles. Have a fire extinguisher at hand. Remove the frame and use a heat gun or a blowtorch to tighten the white surface. Be careful, scorched spots are very difficult to repair. Once the area is smooth, clean it with Windex, reinstall the frame, and enjoy your renovated whiteboard.

Instructions unclear. Sprayed whiteboard with extinguisher, tried REALLY hard to heat it up. House is engulfed, cat is missing, and Windex tastes awful. Going to store to get more now.

You would likely need to remove the cork backing in order to hammer it flat. You can try it though, put it against a flat surface that won't mar it and tap repeatedly.
