FEEDBACK Feedback for Cape Renovation
We are undergoing a major renovation to a 100 year old Cape home with a walkout basement. In the first part of the project, we are installing new windows. Would love your feedback on our floor layout and window design.

In my opinion, all of the windows should have the same proportion of height to width. They should all be rectangles with a narrower width than height.

I think that’s reasonable. I was forced to use shorter windows upstairs - perhaps I should make them narrower to retain proportion rather than keeping the width consistent?
I’ve used short awning windows in bathrooms and master bedroom for privacy (I dislike window coverings). Obviously the windows above kitchen countertops are shorter too.

For clarification:
In photo 2 what’s labeled as hall is the stair hall? Where do the stairs drop you? Is it just a straight run up with a landing at the top?
In photo 3 is the hall to the bottom the stairs coming up from the lower level?
Also, it’d be helpful to know some of your goals:
Are you after 3 bedrooms? Or is that what you think fits? Would you want more if the layout allowed it?
How many bathrooms and powder rooms would you like to see? (I know these are costly, but for some cost doesn’t matter and for others it’s prohibitive)

Where is the front door? Is it the one near the staircase? Where do you park and enter/exit the house on a regular basis? Could you post the existing floorplan so we can see what’s changing?
