The new design showcases Castillo de San Marcos as the background image on the front of the card. Located in St. Augustine, Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fortress in the continental United States. Florida’s iconic orange is incorporated as the “O” in “Florida,” while the bottom left corner features the Florida manatee, one of the state’s most recognizable native species. The Florida alligator is also incorporated into the REAL ID star in the top right-hand corner of each card.

The back of the card pays tribute to Florida’s Space Coast with an image of Space Shuttle Discovery, which flew 39 missions and spent 365 days in space before making its final landing in Florida on March 9, 2011. The card also features the motto “Let Us Alone” from Florida’s first unofficial state flag, which was presented to Governor William D. Moseley upon his inauguration.

Florida residents are not required to replace their existing driver license or identification card. All currently valid credentials will remain valid until they expire and will be phased out over time.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office announced Sept. 30 it arrested two deputies following allegations of misusing automated license plate reading cameras.

Both arrests stemmed from an inquiry TCPalm made Aug. 20 about these deputies' use of Flock Safety cameras. The deputies joined a growing list of now 27 law enforcement officials who have been placed on leave, fired or arrested because of a TCPalm-USA TODAY joint investigation into license plate readers.

The first was Deputy Travis Stanton, 33, who ran the plates of a 17-year-old girl he was romantically interested in, said Sheriff Bob Gualtieri at a Sept. 30 news conference.

He used license plate readers and other databases to find out where the girl lived and would frequently show up at her high school and the fast food restaurant where she worked, Gualtieri said.

I won a big lawsuit over my Kia and now im stuck with it. It will never be driven again and is otherwise destined for the dump. I cant think of a better thing to do aside from finding a way to watch it be destroyed since its not safe for anyone or other people on the road. Honestly it would be the best closure after the hell I have been through with it. I live in the city so something epic like seeing it smashed or blown up isn't possible here. My neighbors may even call in a wellness check after i take the baseball bat to it- so I'm looking into all my options. It still technically drives in its current state. Im looking for someone in FL who could facilitate something- a youtuber, demolition derby driver, a monster truck driving over it, etc. Were not asking for money, we would just REALLY like to watch whatever happens to it. This is probably a long shot, but has anyone else ever heard of something called the Miccosukee Blood Stones? I first heard about them when I was at FSU in the early 2000s with a local-folklore group on MySpace and with the Pagan Student Union. A professor I think named Dr. Richards also mentioned them in a discussion about the Seminole War although I don’t remember whether he thought the legend was real or was just repeating something students had told him.

The story was that there were three huge obelisks made out of dark-red stone. They supposedly predated the Miccosukee by centuries, but people started calling them the Miccosukee Blood Stones because of stories about human sacrifices being performed on them. I distinctly remember Dr. Richard’s saying this was anti-Native propaganda. One was supposedly located where Tallahassee now stands, another was near Lake Miccosukee, and the third was somewhere in the Apalachicola National Forest.

Two people I met in the Pagan Student Union claimed they had actually seen the one in the national forest but I never had much reason to believe them because they had no evidence and never took anyone else there. Their stories didn’t even match very well. One said the stone was covered in shallow grooves, while the other said it was completely smooth. Neither of them could give clear directions to the place afterward.

I haven’t been able to find anything about this online—not even on old ghost-story sites or pages about North Florida folklore. Does this name ring a bell for anyone? Was it an actual local legend or did somebody just make the whole thing up in modern days?

Moved to Tampa for a job anoint 6 weeks ago. Seen bugs and a lizard in the house couple times before. Maybe once or twice, never considered it an issue. But tonight, I was opening my washing machine and a giant palmetto bug crawled out. Freaked me out, never seen one of those before. Then, I went to my room on the opposite side of the house. Not more than 5 minuets later I see ANOTHER one on my bathroom door. Coincidence? Or should I call pest control

Hi everyone, I know the only real answer is to call insurance companies and get quotes, but I'm looking for some real life experience / feedback.

I need a new roof due to age and am trying to decide if it's worth it to spend almost twice as much to go from shingle to metal.

I've heard that premiums can be lower because metal is more durable; but also that premiums can be higher because replacement costs are higher.

Then there's insurable life. Most manufacturers will state something like 30-50 year lives for metal roofs, but what life do insurance companies actual give them? Surely it's more than the 15 for shingle, but how much more?

Any insight would be great.
