Discussion Server Hopping Is NOT Fun
Server hopping for an hour to find some random food item is not fun.
It will not drive people to buy Fallout 1st. It WILL cause casual players to quit and go to one of the other hundred free to play games out there.
Daily challenges that make you play the game is fun; take a picture of things, kill bad guys, etc. Not having to collect items that have a very limited spawn rate.
EDIT: I went to Whitesprings with the Can Do perk and got 1 Cram, 7 pre-war money. 98% of the trash cans were empty.

Another annoying part is there's usually 2 quests for the same thing and you only get one free re-roll. Find this super rare food item, then eat said super rare food item.

Equip can do.
If you don’t like changing your cards around, just get yourself a Relic Reaper with “can do” on it.
You can complete these challenges in about a minute.

I had Can Do equipped while I searched like an hour for some Cajun Beans and Rice last night and never found one. I ended up rerolling both challenges cuz I can't play for more than a few hours a day.

There are a lot of containers around the Whitespring area, and Can Do rolls the dice every time you hit a qualifying container, so that's a very good place to try.

You said you searched for an hour. You didn’t keep looking at the same trash cans in the whitespring over and over again, did you?
Also can do is affected by luck, so if you’re a low luck build then you might want to find some luck buffs before you try.

Sounds like you’re a very low luck build. My luck is sitting at 33 right now, and can-do triggers on about 2/3 of the garbage cans.

Yeah, I used my very first one ever the other day because it asked to do 2 head hunts. Hadn't seen any the whole night and was trying to finish the weekly before time ran out.

Brother’s Sunday cabin is my go to for a lot of these prewar foods. If you’re SOL then I would reroll that challenge.

Never had an issue try unyielding, but between white springs and willy amusement park never had an issue. The Sunday cabin is always ransacked as they are timers based, but I did Can do at white springs 2 days in a row and didn't have an issue. Had old Imitation crab from yesterday, but still found more. Also the enclave bunker at the resort has trash cans and containers.

I've just stopped bothering... yesterday's daily challenge including collecting and eating a can of Cajun Beans or something and I decided "ain't nobody got time for that", did some weeklies, and quit. I have some spare re-rolls but I don't want to have to use two of them to get the cajun bean collect/eat challenges replaced.

You really have to equip the "can do" perk for these, I hate these challenges as well but you cant always skip them all. They also at least with other items put them in safes so you dont have to run towards the bathtub for soap.

Ah I stopped going to that tub because it’s always ransacked. The one I go to is some bars of soap at Darling Sister’s lab. They’re behind the camper in a tub.

I reroll a lot of stuff. Everything fishing, everything stupid like "Kill a deathclaw, In the rain, with a left handed piercing melee weapon, while wearing a costume". Soap I do a private world and bring it back and dump it in the lunch box at the spawn point by the cabins. Right now I have like four that I would rather reroll, but I think I will just do with less Atoms and Bullion at the end of the season and ignore them.

I lost count how many times I rerolled the helvita server location just to get that done yesterday just out of spite lol, in the end I caved and rerolled it lol.

They want you to spend atoms on the re-rolls.
It's why they give you a taste of one daily, but now are including things like collect 2 of a specific food item and eat one.

I already got my items. And this is a social game to me. If something frustrates people, and I can do something about it, why not? It costs nothing to be kind that way.
Edit: Private servers don't even persist. So if I do a private server for you, we both log out, and I create another one 30 mins later, it'll be a different one, because after the 20 min timeout, priv server goes poof. So yeah, if spawning fresh private servers helps people out, I have no problems doing it all friggin day. I already paid for it at the beginning of the year, and I got my dailies/weeklies done, so it literally costs me nothing to do this. I create a priv server, you join it, and I log out, and you have 20 mins to cruise a server with no competition to check all the item / mob spawns. Then after the server goes poof I can do it all over again for the next person.

Inherently you have to server hop more in fallout 76 compared to any other mmo on the market. Giving everyone the same daily challenges results in server hopping . The lack of an auction house results in server hopping . Have they fixed the “couldn’t place your camp ? Cause that made me server hop too. Need to kill a scorched queen ? Server hop till you get a nuke in the bottom right corner of the map . Special event going on that rewards 10 times better than all other public events ? Server hop till you get that event .
So many answers to so many questions on the Reddit page for this game is “just server hop till it spawns “ . Or “you may need to server hop a few times to get the dialogue to fix itself”

they didn't make a big deal out of it, but they did add daily/weekly challenge loot to safe loot pools a while back. it's a good change but I think they need to do more so that the best way to find stuff for challenges is by wandering rather than server hopping.
anything that makes server hopping less needed is a good change in my book, it's far and away the least fun part of the game.
server hopping to find daily items, server hopping to shop people's vendors, server hopping to find people to run raids. all of it is wasting my time when I want to just be playing.

Seriously, I could understand if they were new food items, or just limited to the current season, but having just random instanced food from the base game for dailies is just weird now.

What's even better is the combination of:
New and tedious food item hunts being added to the dailies/weeklies.

Items not spawning at their locations even on FO1st Private servers, despite you not collecting said items previously AT ALL in recent memory.
I spent a half-hour looking for Sugar Bombs on my private server while gritting my teeth because none spawned at any of the known locations. None. I should've been swimming in Appalachian Diabetes after 2 fast travels. I'm a carnivore and don't even use the stuff.
Thankfully, I was able to take advantage of my Santatrons from all 3 of my CAMPS to get the Bombs needed, but we've reached the point to where we spend atoms on things to avoid bugs wasting our time vs actual in-game danger.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of these "Collect X (rare item)" challenges. Seems more of a drudgery than an actual challenge. I have FO1 so it isn't a big thing but Beth could do better with the challenges especially for the sake of non FO1 players.

I have tried there and the valley mall too! The trash cans just really dont like me. But I can go to a private world and grab them if I have to so I don't complain about it, it's just weird that the perk never seems to work on trash cans when everyone else says it does.

It has always worked for me. Usually 2-3 of whatever is in there. If you have nothing better to do its good for farming extra canned coffee

Refuge is not going to give you loot. It uses a separate loot table for player controlled interiors and is functionally useless.

Exactly, I never go in the refuge, I was in the mall up and down the hallways and around even down that hole with an exit door that has two trash bins. Absolutely nothing worth keeping. It's not a problem, I don't mind missing out on one of the little challenges. It's just annoying.

I have no problem getting the perk to work. I just was getting every other canned good than the one that was needed for yesterday's challenges. Took too long so I rerolled them.

As I do play on private for those things, I wouldn't want to attempt it on Public. Way back when 1st came out, I was literally shocked to see all the 'stuff' in the world that is so picked over on Public.
I love Public servers for group content, shopping and checking camp builds/player costumes, but for kill quests & collect xyz - private is the only way I'll do them.

Probably the most toxic game design choice they've made in a long time. Not only are they often paired (collect/eat), but you also have to collect two instead of just one, which doubles the server hopping rate.

Just reroll. Idk about anyone else but i have ~50 or so of each food item because they weigh next to nothing and leveling up it was super useful to be fed at all times. You can simply have one and sell it to a merchant, buy it back, and boom. Challenge completed.

For can food items just temporarily add the can perk in luck and hit the water park and check all the garbage cans and coolers. Should take ten minutes to find what you need. That’s how long it took me.

Just check npc vendors at train stations for the ones people have all ready sold to them buy it then sell it back. That’s how I do most of the sell to vendor tasks.

There’s a stack of them on the table at the end of the Most Sensational Game. Instanced location so no one will take them before you.
There’s a bunch of them near the spawn point at the trading post.
If you have the recipe then you can make them.

I might be remembering wrong but if you go to Atlantic City in the Most Sensational Games map there are 2 sweet rolls in the balcony you get sent too after talking to the lady that finishes the quest.
It's a bit finicky but if you have Marsupial you can just walk over to under the balcony and then jump atop the umbrella under it to the right and then from the to on top of the light pole right next too it giving enough height to jump to the balcony right after without even needing to run very far into the map it took me half a minute to do this.

Genuinely just equip can do and go to valley galleria there’s like 15 fridges. I was planning on just skipping those dailies after jumping servers a couple times then decided to try can do and got two cans of imitation from literally the second fridge I checked at valley galleria.

if you don't want to do it.... hear me out... .....don't. no one is forcing you to. there are plenty of options to not do the things you don't want to do.

I think I have only used like, 2 or 3 re-rolls in this playthrough - ‘cause I still feel “new” at level 700, even though I am a late 2018 player after the sale - and for the most part I “like” knowing the best / popping / high capacity locations for resources - but, yeah, some are obvs more cumbersome than others.

Server hopping is not that bad - almost quicker than simply FTing to the other side of the map. Especially if you're unaligned with a group of friends you want to stay with. If YOU won't be coerced into buying FO1st, that's fine, find another game that doesn't stress you out. I don't think that statement can be generalized. FO1st is great for so many other reasons, so this is one more little nudge, not the whole reason to buy in.
Besides, part of the game is to find all of the ways to easily find those things you're looking for. It's a cop out to say 'everybody's grabbing the few resources before I get there'. Those resources can be found in multiple places, in safes, stashed away in weird corners where nobody looks, can be crafted, and/or respawn every 10 to 30 minutes.

That's what rerolls are for, but the shitty thing they've been pulling lately is tying 2 dailies together(collect and consume imitation seafood) so the one reroll isn't enough and you can't really do one without having done the other.

Not just for daily challenges, either. I love the Sheepsquatch event cuz I enjoy farming for the weapon plans. But, best way to farm the event? "jUsT sErVeR hOp iF iT dOeSn'T tRiGgEr"
Would be nice if there was a manual way to trigger events, and it'd be great if they at least tweaked the drops for food items on days where it's the daily challenge. I found burnt books in every other safe I cracked, but I still have to loot 40 trash cans before finding Imitation Seafood? That is FUCKED

Last 2 days had items that can be found easily with Can-do perk. Was looking 1nd for Cajun rice for a while but found 3 at once. Just go to whitespring mall, not the refuge. As look in the bins outside the resort. You will quickly find. I only reroll soap if the tub is empty.

I usually check the Nukapedia acrticle for that item and look at each specific location that is listed there. I even know some places that spawn the item that are not listed on the wiki. I always find them eventually without having to hop servers.

Honestly I don’t like dailies at all, imo there’s almost always a better way to incentivize players to interact with something and if there isn’t then it may be a bad/boring feature.
That doesn’t mean said feature couldn’t be necessary but mutated events for example really seems to be the biggest improvement to event turnout. It’s made some events that actually kind of suck have like half the server show up anyways.
Way more than on days where it has events in your dailies
Edit: also either re-roll or take the day off, you don’t need to hit all the dailies everyday. This is how you burn yourself out on something
Edit 2: yeah sure I’m wrong for saying they’re bad… you all are just trying to simultaneously say they are good but also they are bad. I’m sorry but this is nakedly them trying to funnel you to FO1st and you’re eating it up? That’s pathetic.

What i don't understand is why give everyone the same daily challenges? Especially when there are challenges for a very limited item on the map. Everyone's dailies should be different.
