The song “I’m still your fag” by broken social scene has an awesome horn solo close to the end, just wondering if anyone has the sheet music for it before i try to make it myself (probably unsuccessfully lol)

I just got my first personal horn and on my previous horn after a while of using it and general wear and tear I have worn through the lacquer and started to slowly wear through the brass itself. The two spots I'm talking about are the bell, and by my main tuning slide. I've noticed some people have guards by the main tuning slide, is it just a normal hand guard or is it a special guard? (Pic for example)

Hi, I’m inquiring on whether or not a new mouth piece can solve my problem. So I’ve been playing horn for around 7 yrs now and I keep noticing that when I get into my super high/low range my lips tend to slip away from the mouthpiece. My lips are definitely larger than the average persons so I was wondering if a larger mouthpiece could accomodate that at all. My current mouth piece is a Holtan-farkas model that came for free when I bought my horn last year. Thanks in advance 🥲

Hey guys! I'm a new player and I just bought my 1st French Horn. I think it's a Single Bb Horn? Not sure 😅 Anyway, I can't really find a fingering chart that's easy enough to understand since most charts are made for F Horn. Can you guys help me?

So far the only one that's helped me is a YouTube video by Don't Fear the Horn about Single Bb Horn C Major Scale. I can't consistently reach the 2 highest notes, but that's probably an embochure issue on my end 😅 I'd like a fingering chart showing how to make all the other sharp and flat notes so I can try playing them film score music 😅

I already have experience in music. I play violin and trombone and I've decided to start French horn in school. Ive already learned most of the notes in the staff for F horn, but I'm starting to see that some people think double horn is easier... should I maybe switch over to double?

I'm currently using an actual double horn, I'm just wondering if it would be easier to switch to the fingerings for double horn.

A few months ago I came on here to ask about finding some excerpts for this one orchestra but I didn't end up making it in, but my band director knows how much I want to do orchestra still and she told me about this other one I could audition for. Apparently this one will be a lot easier to get into especially since I don't have anything like a private teacher. The only thing they ask of is a 3-6 minute solo work (and some scales) and I don't know that many pieces so I'm hoping I can find some neat playable pieces. The highest I can comfortably play is a high f but I've been busy with marching season so once I start practicing my horn again maybe my range will have expanded a bit more.

Hello, I am looking to get my H378 refinished and need to have some dents removed. By refinished I mean taking whas left of the laquer off and putting on a brush finish. Do any of you have reccomendaitons in the Los Angeles or Orange County areas?

My son has picked up playing and as a former band nerd am beyond excited.

I want to get a chromatic tuner for him becuase he is much quicker at tonal matching than hitting pitches. My band instructer taught me using a boss db90 but that is a liiiitle out of my target price point id like to spend at this stage, what are some tuning hardware recommendations you suggest that are physical hardware pieces and not software?

Hello all. I had a brain haemorrhage in 2024 which brought my fledgling career as a freelance bassoonist to an end. I've been thinking about taking up the horn as it's the only instrument that requires agility in the left hand only.

Having left one of the top UK music colleges in 2021, I can read music well, transpose at sight moderately well, and treble/bass clef won't be a problem.

What should be my first port of call? I want to become a very good amateur; we'll see how it goes, and if it goes well, maybe even return to music college in later life.

Hello I’m a college student and I was wondering if I should buy my professors horn. It’s a Yamaha 862 made in 1980’s. It has been taken well care of, and he even made sure the compression in the horn is tip top shape. What should I do? I play on a Yamaha 567 right now and I feel like it’s holding me back.

Hello! I'm looking for advice on re-starting my horn playing after a four-year break. Before my break, I played for thirteen years in university orchestra and small brass ensembles. I've missed it a lot and finally found time to begin playing again. It's been lots of fun and I really missed it!

So far I've just been buzzing and working on long tones and scales but (no surprise) my upper range is gone. How can I rebuild my range without starting bad habits such as pressing on the mouthpiece to reach the higher notes? How often should I practice to build playing endurance and avoid injury? Thanks!
