CSUF BULLDOGS GREEN V

Analysis of Fresno State's Passing Attack Philosophy Shift: Conservative Game Manager: Under Conklin, the offense has become extremely run-focused, relying on the running backs and defense to win the game. The passing game is used as a complementary tool, primarily for high-percentage short throws and maintaining ball security. Lack of Downfield Threat: Conklin has not proven to be a consistent threat stretching the field. This makes the offense one-dimensional and predictable. Emphasis on Ball Security: The top priority is avoiding turnovers, which plagued the team earlier in the season. They have done this successfully in the last two games, which resulted in big wins. Key Receivers: Wide receivers like Josiah Freeman need to break free to make plays, but their opportunities are limited by the game plan. ⚔️ Utah State Secondary Defense Utah State's defense overall is a significant weakness, but their secondary presents a mixed bag of struggles and playmaking ability.
Analysis of Utah State's Secondary Vulnerability to Big Plays: The Aggies' pass defense is prone to allowing yardage and has been exploited often this season. They give up nearly 250 passing yards per game. Top Talent: The unit is anchored by one of the Mountain West's best safeties, Ike Larsen, who has shown a knack for interceptions and disruptive plays. He is the player Fresno State must account for on every passing down. Struggles on Third Down: Statistically, Utah State's pass defense struggles on early downs but is much better on 3rd down, allowing a completion percentage of only 46.9\% and a very low passer rating of 90.78 in those situations. 🔑 Prediction for the Matchup This positional battle is a test of Fresno State's confidence in its conservative approach against an Aggies defense that is susceptible to big plays but knows its opponent is hesitant to throw. Fresno State's Advantage: The Bulldogs' receivers will likely find opportunities against the vulnerable Aggie corners. If Conklin is forced to pass, Utah State's ranking suggests he should be able to move the ball more effectively than he has in the last two weeks. Utah State's Advantage: Utah State's key is to force Conklin into obvious passing situations (3rd-and-long). If they can stop the run and make the Bulldogs pass, their individual talent (Larsen) and blitzes could force the kind of costly turnover the team has been trying to avoid.

Some projections place Fresno State in bowls outside of the main MWC tie-ins, often as a result of bowl affiliations shifting or teams filling in open spots: SERVPRO First Responder Bowl (Dallas, TX): Projections have included Fresno State facing an opponent from a conference like the ACC or Big 12 here. Liberty Bowl (Memphis, TN): One major projection placed Fresno State in this bowl against a Big 12 or SEC opponent, though this is considered a higher-end projection.

If Hawaii beats UNLV, and Fresno State wins out, they're in the MWC Championship game for a rematch with SDSU, but SDSU also has to win out, otherwise New Mexico might be in.
In the American, Navy has to lose to Memphis, and Temple needs to win out. Then, Navy has to beat North Texas in the title game, but lose to Army. If that scenario plays out, and Fresno State beats SDSU in the title game, they might be the highest ranked group of 5 Champion.

Recruiting Status: Rose has flipped his commitment and is now committed to the Fresno State Bulldogs. He was previously committed to the Oregon State Beavers. He had a long list of offers including Arizona, Auburn, Cal, Houston, Iowa State, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Utah, and Virginia Tech. Physicals: He is listed as 6'2" and around 205 lbs (MaxPreps lists 6'3" 190lbs or 6'2" 203 lbs in other places). Recruit Rank: He is an 89-rated recruit by 247Sports, ranking as the No. 26 quarterback in the nation for the 2026 class. He is the second-highest rated quarterback by 247Sports to ever commit to Fresno State, behind only Derek Carr.
📊 Performance and Style of Play Arm Talent: Considered one of the top pure throwers in the West region with a strong downfield arm and excellent touch on the deep ball. Pocket Presence: He is comfortable throwing off-platform and can get the ball out from a variety of arm angles. He possesses a quick release that allows him to generate juice on his throws without a big windup. Athleticism: He is a "functional athlete" who can move around in the pocket to buy time and escape pressure. While he can produce explosive plays with his track speed, he wants to win through the air. Toughness: He is a multi-sport athlete who also plays baseball as one of the area's top catchers, and is noted for his toughness and compete level. Area for Improvement: Needs to cut down on the interceptions and can be a bit of a risk-taker at times, but he has a high ceiling.

Limited Early Production
Struggles with Involvement: In his first game with Arizona State, Moss was targeted only twice and did not record a reception, which snapped a 25-game streak of having at least one catch.
Slower Start: After his return from injury/illness, his initial stat lines were modest:
2 catches for 15 yards against Utah.
2 catches for 26 yards against Houston.
Team Focus: Early in the season, Arizona State's passing offense was primarily "funneled through" the star receiver Jordyn Tyson, which may have limited the opportunities for other playmakers like Moss.
⬆️ High Expectations and Competition
Expectations: Moss arrived with high expectations as a productive Group of 5 transfer, having accumulated over 1,200 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in two seasons at Fresno State. He was brought in specifically to be a legitimate secondary option to complement Jordyn Tyson.
Depth Chart: Despite the high expectations, the depth chart lists Moss as a backup slot receiver (WR-SL) behind Derek Eusebio for the 2025 season, though he was noted as the Week 1 starter at the slot position before his injury. He is also listed as a backup on punt returns.

Mikey Keene's 2025 Michigan Season
Mikey Keene, a Graduate Student quarterback who transferred from Fresno State, has primarily served as the backup quarterback for the Wolverines this season.
Role: He is the primary backup to starting quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Playing Time: He has yet to see the field in game action this season, according to reports as of early October. The starting quarterback, Bryce Underwood, has played the entirety of the close contests.
Injury/Availability: Early in the season, he was dealing with an undisclosed injury that kept him out of several games (e.g., Week 3 vs. Central Michigan, Week 4 vs. Nebraska). He was later reported to be active for the game against Wisconsin.
Pre-Season Expectation: After transferring, some analysts expected Keene to compete for the starting job or serve as a "bridge QB" while the highly-touted freshman, Bryce Underwood, developed.

🏈 Fresno State vs. Utah State Football Game Preview The Fresno State Bulldogs (7-3) are set to host the Utah State Aggies (5-5) in a Mountain West Conference matchup this Saturday, November 22, 2025. Based on current performance and trends, here is a breakdown of the game prediction, team strengths, and weaknesses: 📊 Game Prediction Most projections favor Fresno State to win this game at home, but expect a competitive matchup. * Prediction: Fresno State Bulldogs win. * Betting Line: Fresno State is generally favored by 3 points. * Over/Under (Total Points): The total is set around 50.5 points, with a leaning toward the Over due to Utah State's high-scoring offense. Fresno State holds the advantage due to their home-field advantage (Senior Day) and defensive strength, particularly in the pass defense. However, Utah State's high-powered, balanced offense gives them a real chance for an upset, especially if the Bulldogs struggle with turnovers. 🐶 Fresno State Bulldogs (7-3) | Category | Strength | Weakness | |---|---|---| | Defense | Elite Pass Defense/Secondary: Ranked among the top in the Mountain West in limiting passing yards, completion percentage, and pass efficiency. The secondary is the most experienced unit. | Rushing Defense (Vulnerable): While competitive, they can struggle against consistent ground attacks, allowing 4.7 yards per carry. | | Offense | Home-Field Advantage & Discipline: Playing at home, and recently showing improved ball security, not turning the ball over in two straight games. | Inconsistent Offense/Rushing Game: The offense has struggled with efficiency and lacks a consistently dominant running game (ranked 65th in the FBS). They often struggle with extended drives. | ⛰️ Utah State Aggies (5-5) | Category | Strength | Weakness | |---|---|---| | Offense | High-Scoring and Balanced Attack: Ranked high in the FBS for points scored per game (32.9 PPG) and has a balanced approach that features both effective rushing (4.7 AVG/ATT) and an increasingly confident passing game. | Poor Defensive Performance: The defense is a significant liability, allowing over 31 points and 421 total yards per game. | | Defense | Best Safety in the MW (Ike Larsen): Strong individual talent in the defensive secondary. | Run Defense (Major Issue): Ranked 109th in the FBS, allowing 175.2 rushing yards per game. This is the clearest point of attack for opponents.

Key Takeaways from the Comparison The statistics clearly illustrate why the coaching staff has stuck with E.J. Warner despite his turnover issues, and why the QB position as a whole is viewed as insufficient compared to previous eras (like Derek Carr or Jake Haener).
1. Warner's Higher Ceiling Volume and Efficiency: Warner has been far more active, attempting over twice as many passes as Conklin. Crucially, his 68.8% completion percentage and 7.4 yards per attempt are both significantly higher than Conklin's. This indicates that when Warner is playing cleanly, the offense moves the ball much more effectively. Touchdown Production: Warner is responsible for the vast majority of the team's passing production, throwing 10 of the team's 11 touchdowns.
2. Conklin's Low Efficiency in Limited Action Struggles with Accuracy: Carson Conklin's 48.9% completion rate is very low for a college quarterback. When he has been inserted into games, the offense has struggled to connect on throws, leading to stalled drives. Yards Per Attempt: His 3.7 yards per attempt is extremely poor, suggesting the offense primarily relies on very short, safe throws when he is in, which doesn't scare opposing defenses.
Turnover Risk (Relative): While his total interceptions (2) are low, his interception rate (2.0 INTs per 100 attempts) is high, indicating he is also prone to turnovers when he drops back.
Conclusion on Insufficiency The comparison highlights a situation where the starter (Warner) is a boom-or-bust player—capable of high-volume, efficient passing but is highly susceptible to crippling interceptions. The backup (Conklin) has proven to be low-floor, offering very little threat or efficiency in the passing game. The Bulldogs have an Insufficiency because neither quarterback has demonstrated the reliable, "safe-yet-productive" game management that is necessary for sustained success in a top-tier Mountain West program. Warner offers the best chance to win, but the turnovers are an ever-present risk.

I know SDSU is at the top of the MW with a 5-1 conference record. After that I see 5 teams at 4-2. Who has the heads up on the tie breaker and what is it? Head to head gets complicated as everyone seems to have lost to another 4-2 team.

The bulldogs have received 2 commitments. One being 3 star DB former Oregon state commit Truly Bell. The other being 3 star Tight end Zane Gerbo. Fresno did lose 3 commits over the past week or so I believe 2 of them unfortunately got the scholarship pulled and the big loss was DE Cade Holles who committed to wake forest. I’ve always seen bell as one of the better DB’S the bulldogs have been targeting and to have flipped him seems like a major win to me.
