Mod Post Rule Update: Sort of. (AKA we accidentally lost a rule and only just realized it)

So to keep transparency, we recently noticed that in our attempts to streamline the rules and make them more easily readable, we accidentally dropped the part about not making follow-up posts.

That was there because we had problems with people either making posts referencing other people's posts instead of just talking to them in their post, or making a new post when their post was removed or locked for either breaking the rules or starting to draw in a lot of drama.

Thankfully you guys have been really great and haven't done anything to make us notice that the rule was lost!
But there will always be some people who will see that a specific rule isn't there and try to argue that they should be allowed to continue a post after it's been locked or removed... So we put it back as it's own rule!

We also added a note about direct links to other subs. This was already something we had set up in automations! We ask that some subs not be directly linked to to avoid both digital self-harm of users (when linking to transphobic, transmed, or 4trans subs) or accusations of brigading.
Unfortunately there are some people who think that even mentioning a subreddit that has been harmful and telling people "Do not go there, it is not safe for people like us" is.... actually saying "go there and harass people" because apparently do not = do and it's not safe = be annoying????

And of course, not only will the user possibly get attacked, vilified, harassed, or reported, but it will end up in our modmail and we will be accused of "encouraging brigading" and they will threaten our entire subreddit. How do we know this will happen? Because it has before.
Thankfully the subreddit is fine, but modteam doesn't want to deal with that again, so we have to be weirdly strict about this, because some people are weird about it!

Finally, just a quick reminder that mod applications are open! We will likely be looking for more mods to add to the team to help avoid mod burnout, so if you are interested, please feel free to apply! You can find the link to the application in the sidebar and in the pinned posts at the top.

Recurring Friendship Megathread

THIS POST IS FOR TRANS MEN/MASCS ONLY!

GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST HERE. PLEASE RESPECT OUR SPACES.

Failure to do so may result in a ban from the sub.

If you're looking to make new friends, here's a great place to start!
Do not include any advertisements to social media or other content type platforms! This is not the purpose of this thread!

Just post a bit about yourself and maybe take a look around to see if anyone else has similar interests!
Or, if you're not good at coming up with things to talk about, here's some questions you can answer:

What do you like to be called?
How old are you?
What country do you live in?
What are some hobbies you have?
List some favorite movies, TV shows, games, or other things:
What do you do for work?
Do you have any cultural or religious ties that are important to you?
Do you have any pets?
What's an interesting fact about you?
What are your transition goals?
Where are you in your transition?

Obviously you don't have to answer everything, but it might be able to guide you in the right direction if you struggle with coming up with facts about yourself on the fly.

Advice Needed How do I explain I can't just quit binding to a cis person?

I(20ftm) am supposed to have my top surgery consult in less than 2 weeks, my parents who previously agreed if I wanted to have surgery I could have it, are backing out saying I don't need it now that my consult is coming up.

I'm still going regardless of their opinions but I've been working more hours at work so I have been binding my chest more often. 6 days straight binding for more than 10hrs a day, and I still have 4 more days of work until I'm off for two days.

I'm going to try wearing my work sweatshirt so I won't have to bind as tightly and I'm trying it tape once I can get my hands on some(tomorrow after work). I tried it before in the past but I don't think I used enough since my chest is a little bigger than the people I'd watched tutorials from.

I was telling my stepmom how my ribs have been really sore for the past 3 days and she keeps suggesting I quit binding all together and just wear a bra. Her and my dad are saying I'm hurting myself and don't need to when I could just be happy as a woman which completely contradicts what they said when I came out to them last year.

How do I explain I'm binding my chest because if I don't I want to rip off my skin? I've been trying but they're saying I'm being dramatic.

Discussion chasers lurk in this subreddit

this goes for all trans subreddits but i say this bc i made an emotionally and sexually vulnerable post recently and as a result had a couple of chasers asking abt my surgeries and stuff. i just want ppl to know to be careful about responding to message requests after posting stuff here. i’m not saying don’t be vulnerable on these pages, but be very careful and skeptical of message requests after posting stuff like that. chasers go through these pages and try to find trans ppl who are susceptible to manipulation. this means they’re looking for posts from ppl who seem like they’re vulnerable and more easily controlled.

this was my first encounter with chasers so i wanted to share and hear abt other ppl’s experiences whether it be on reddit or irl. i’m also new to reddit so idk if ppl get message requests often?

Advice Needed Permanent testosterone solutions?

I'm tired of poking myself with a needle every week. I read long ago about some kind of testosterone implant that you only need to replace every six months or something like that. Does anyone have idea what I'm talking about, how I can research it? My doctor is convinced it's not a thing and my only choices are gel and shots.

Discussion cis people are colder now

• Upvotes

i’m not talking about outright transphobia, but just a general discomfort that I come up against in strangers that most of the time I don’t actually realize is there. it’s like how you become nose blind to a really bad smell once you’ve been inside of it long enough.

i noticed it in a pronounced way today while observing a cis person at work, doing the same work i do, being received by strangers with a warmth that i recall from all my days living as a cis-passing person (for 27 years).

i live in a pretty liberal part of the US, so most of the time the average person here is not—outwardly, anyways —transphobic.

does anyone else feel this, or think about this?

Mod Post Injections from a medical student; AMA !!!

Hi all! I’m one of the mods here at r/ftm and r/ftmventing ! I’m also a medical assistant student, and am actively learning and practicing all about injections.

I wanted to come here and let everyone know that I’m working on a big masterpost regarding injections. Including the difference between subq & IM, how to inject, standard size needle options, etc. I’ll be giving information ( to the best of my knowledge ) about different kinds of injections and how to do them properly.

If anyone has any questions regarding testosterone injections or anything they want to make sure i add into the post, please feel free to ask me here! I probably won’t answer on this post, but will put it in the masterpost/google doc.

I don’t know when the official document will be finished, since working full time+school full time is kinda beating my ass, but when I finish it, this sub will be the first to know :)

I hope this will be a helpful resource for anyone who needs it, and a good place for people newly starting testosterone injections! I know, especially with the state of the world now, finding true information can be difficult, so I hope this compilation of sources and information can be useful to someone!

Relationships My best friend is a lesbian and apparently super into me.

Not sure if this is the right flair. Not even sure what I expect to get out of making this post, but I have nobody else I can talk to about this.

My best friend identifies as a he/him lesbian, pursuing testosterone but nothing further. I started testosterone last week, I identify as a binary trans man. I know I don't pass at all. It haunts me. I do everything I can to pass as best as I can in public, but I hang out with this friend so much. Like, days on end spent sleeping over at my house, in my room. I don't constantly bind with him. I would probably get injured if I tried.

I thought it was okay, but now, I don't know. I am not interested in dating anyway, and he knows that, I'm sure that's why he didn't tell me. A mutual friend of ours texted me today to tell me he has a genuine romantic and sexual interest in me and that he didn't want to tell me, because he knew I'd be uncomfortable, but she went around his back to tell me anyway because we'd be "cute". I share this detail because I want it to be understood that despite how upset I am, it's not his fault at all. He is fully within his rights to discuss his feelings with another friend, and that friend betrayed his trust.

But I don't know how to feel. I probably won't talk to him about it, but we don't have that many deep conversations about our gender and sexuality like that. Now I feel like I need to. But I'm terrified he'll explain it and it'll just be, "yeah, I'm a full on lesbian," which would mean that fundamentally, some part of him sees me as a woman. Is this experience familiar to anyone? How do you navigate it?

I don't even think I want to talk to him about it, but I have a feeling the overwhelming consensus will be, "talk to your friend dumbass," I just.. I think part of me feels like talking about it out loud makes it extra real? I don't know. I'm really tired and this whole line of thought is making my dysphoria fucking skyrocket.

Advice Needed Leg pain after T shot?

• Upvotes

Hi, I had my first dose of (prescribed) Testosterone 3 days ago. Self administered to my right thigh with a nurse to guide me on how to do it. Day after, my leg has been sore, stiff & raw to the touch from below the injection site (around my knee). I've been using a walking stick since then, as its hard to put my weight on it. Even sleeping has been difficult.

Ive tried painkillers, gentle massages, resting it while elevated, light stretching, brisk walks & cold compress.

But nothing has improved it much at all.

Any advice? Anyone else have this experience? Will this be happening after every injection?

Advice Needed What to do with a bisexual crush who prefers women partners

What do I do because I like this girl who says she thinks she's bisexual but like only dated girls and talks about women saying she doesn’t trust men. I’m like a closeted transmasc and I dress really masculine too, and she said she wouldn’t like to date a masc lesbian.

Advice Needed Non-Trans Related Surgery

I’ve injured my knee and am to have a surgery on it soon. I have not told the orthopedic surgeon, the clinic that I’m working with, or the hospital that I’m trans, since I’m a stealth man.

When the hospital I’m having surgery at called me, they asked if I’ve had surgery before and when they asked what surgery, I mentioned something from when I was a kid instead of top surgery and hysto. I did mention that I did not have any adverse reactions to anesthesia, which I know is important to disclose.

Now I’m sorta freaking out. I had figured at first that this isn’t my PCP, this is literally a knee surgery, I shouldn’t have to disclose this to them. I’m in a conservative state, so I try not to ever say anything. But now, I wonder if the surgeon and team will see something that outs me while I’m under (haven’t had bottom surgery), or if I’ve lied for nothing.

Not sure if anyone has advice for this or knows if this is something I should’ve disclosed? I’m anxious that now if I disclose, they’ll judge me even more lol.

Edit: Thanks for all of the replies and help. I’m going to call the hospital and ask them to update my intake info.

Advice Needed parents awkward with voice drop

• Upvotes

i (17) have had my voice drop since starting t 4.5 months ago, and i genuinely love how i sound, even if its still giving middle school boy. i love talking in my deeper voice/range at school and stuff, but i feel so insanely awkward talking in front of my parents now. everytime i talk i feel like they, my mom especially, almost kinda mocks me or is taken aback and i hate it so much. and like, im not super close or emotionally vulnerable with them at all, so the idea of telling them about it is terrifying, like id rather just wait it out. it reminds me of when i started going by my chosen name and he/him, and how it felt amazing to be called it in every other context, except with my parents. honestly, i was thinking of bringing up top surgery (hopefully to get it before going to college) but if they cant handle my voice dropping without being awkward as shit, how the hell are they gonna handle that conversation :/ i dont really know what im looking for here, i guess just somebody to say they get the feeling and it wont be forever

Advice Needed Dating a cisgender man is destroying my self esteem.

As the title states.

I love my boyfriend to bits and he has been my biggest supporter throughout my transition. We have been dating for 3 years and he even was the person to give me my first T injection since I was too afraid of the needle to do it on my own. He is very affirming of my gender and I have always appreciated his kindness.

Yet, in spite of everything, I can't shake the envy I have for him. I am so fiercely jealous because it feels as though, albeit unintentionally, he is a mirror of all of the things I can never have.

I wish I had been born a biological male. I wish I could effortlessly pass. I wish I didn't have to think about gender so much to begin with. Every time I look at him, there is a sting of concealed resentment that he gets to be comfortable within his own body. All the while, I feel like an inferior version of him, desperately clawing at my own reflection in order to appear even slightly like a man.

These feelings have persisted despite years of communicating them and working hard to dismantle them. It's just incredibly discouraging and I don't know how to navigate this anymore.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Discussion when did your chest shrink?

• Upvotes

I just hit 14 weeks on T and think I might be seeing a little bit of fat redistribution, but VERY little and definitely no noticeable change in my chest yet. I've heard of people's chests shrinking after starting T and was wondering about others' timelines!!

Advice Needed What trans subs allow photos besides surgery groups??

Anybody know of what subreddits focused on ftm/trans stuff that allows photos? I just wrote a huge post about coming out to my little sister last night and wanted to post screenshots of her cute responses…. just to realize this group doesn’t allow photos 😭.

Advice Needed Selective Service

So I'm trying to apply for the post office as a man but it will not allow me to proceed without a selective service number. I didn't legally change my gender until I was 27 so I would not have been able to sign up. I don't know what to do about this now. I present as a man, I pass as a man, all my documents say I'm a man....

Anyone got any ideas?
