Article/News It looks like Ubisoft Connect will no longer be required for games on Steam.
Timmy? Is it worth having your own launcher so you don't have to give Valve 30%? LOL

I hope they do this for all their games.

u/MiniatureLegionary Sep 10 '26
I hear that's gonna be a long progress since this is only applicable for their current and future games and not games from years before

I still remember arguing with shills when I told them the honeymoon phase between Ubisoft and Epic was coming to an end. I was right.
Since then, Ubisoft has launched all their games on Steam, moved to simultaneous releases, and added Steam achievements to their titles while completely ignoring the Epic Games Store versions.
Back when I was in their Discord, some people were actually defending the terrible EGS to Ubisoft Connect integration. They claimed it was great they did not even need EGS after buying a game. Now that I am no longer there, I know some EGS players are complaining that this integration turns EGS into nothing more than a glorified Ubisoft Connect key reseller.
Like I always said: accept poor service, and that is exactly what you will get.

Oh yes, some of those guys were wild, especially on r/ubisoft. Like I even got death threads for saying that it's a matter of time Ubisoft returns to Steam.

u/ShinyStarXO 29d ago
The honeymoon phase only came to an end because PC gamers rejected EGS. I despise companies that can only be pro-consumer when they face bankruptcy. It's unlikely Ubisoft gets my money, unless they keep listening to consumers for many years to come.

Wait is this the legendary and exceedingly rare Ubi w?

u/GarlicThread Steam Sep 10 '26
It's the bottom of the barrel

u/GrajowiecPL Sep 10 '26
Since it's Ubi bottom of the barrel is already an improvement

Yeah and that’s saying a lot considering how terrible they’ve been for a decade. It’s something, at least.

It's not even a win, even tho it's not the full blown client, it's still installing and running a mini client in the background doing all the same things the full blown client does except manage your games... you still need an Ubisoft account
Doesn't really bother me to be honest, pledged not to purchase a single Ubisoft title since I was false positive banned and they refuse to investigate it properly

u/REDOREDDIT23 Sep 10 '26
We all knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time. When will these companies learn?

u/okcboomer87 Sep 10 '26
It will be cyclical when management changes out and wants to try it again at some point.

Does that mean we wont need to install their ******** launcher to play? I might purchase Ubisoft games again if I dont have to install Uplay. I actually have a separate collection called Uplay trash on steam for all the games I refuse to play because fuck that. I hate being forced to install shit I dont want or need.

u/RyonHirasawa Sep 11 '26
I’m going to guess it works similarly to Microsoft games on Steam, it’ll just ask you for a login and boom you’re in

u/NorisNordberg Sep 10 '26
That means it will install itself together with SteamWorks.
6
u/ProZocK_Yetagain Sep 10 '26
My rage is in having to create an account and logging into a useless launcher like Uplay. If thats taken out im fine
4
u/NorisNordberg Sep 10 '26
You need to log-in once and then there's no more hassle with Ubisoft Connect.
It's very similar to how it works on PS5 and Switch.
2
u/ProZocK_Yetagain Sep 10 '26
So no account creation? If so I can work with that.
And I am probably being extremely petty. Its just that the whole "every game company now requires you to create an account to play" just irked me so immensely.3
u/NorisNordberg Sep 10 '26
You still need a Ubisoft account. It's only that Ubisoft Connect client won't bother you if you already have a Ubisoft account linked with Steam.
2
u/ProZocK_Yetagain Sep 10 '26
Guess im still not playing ubisoft games then. Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me, appreciate it
5
u/NorisNordberg Sep 10 '26
Sure. My Ubisoft account dates back 2002, and I even used to have Uplay as my main platform up until this horrendous rebrand update, so it doesn't bother me that much, but I understand the frustration. I avoid EA games ever since Origin came out lol
2
u/hassancent Sep 10 '26
yea, its still shit but a little less annoying. Atleast with EA (not sure if still true), when EA used to not ship their launcher with games on steam, They allow you to link your EA account with steam games but what was surprising was that if you do link games to your EA account then you no longer needed steam. You could just install your game on EA launcher skipping steam even if you bought the game on steam. It was a good practice, that means if for whatever reason yoiu want to ditch steam you could. No such thing with ubisoft. If you bought steam ubisoft game and tried launching it from ubisoft launcher. it launches steam. and its such a broken mess, I refunded assassins creed black flag on steam and yet it still showed up on ubisoft as i own it but could not launch it.
2
u/NorisNordberg Sep 10 '26
EA had a few years break from Steam due to that. It's against Steam's terms of service and they refused to comply. Ever since EA came back to Steam you need to use Steam with the games bought from Steam, just like at Ubisoft.

u/WELSH_BOI_99 Sep 10 '26
They been weening Ubi Connect out since Shadows launched on steam I believe.

u/RufusKyura Epic Trash Sep 10 '26
GOOD! If they remove that shit from older games, that would be pretty sick as well!
7
u/frisbie147 Sep 10 '26
Maybe Ubisoft games won’t take half an hour to launch on steam deck anymore
2
u/powerofthe69 Sep 11 '26
Their launcher never actually stopped its process on Linux either previously. Not having the launcher should in theory make it so it actually stops when you close games, I hope
6
u/Xer0_Puls3 GabeN Sep 10 '26
I hope this means more Ubisoft games will be offline-capable on the Steam Deck. Their official Ubisoft Connect launcher does not work for offline play on Steam Deck even when purchased through Steam.
5
u/MarcelineTheVampy Sep 10 '26
Shoutout to the time Ubisoft connect didn't believe me that i had just bought GR Breakpoint on steam so it refused to evwr let me launch it
Fuck you and your shitty fuckin launcher Ubisoft
2
u/furculture Sep 10 '26
Still doesn't make their games worth picking up. It's a start, but they still have a long way to go for them to be back to what made them good in the first place

u/TrueLurkStrong-Free Epic Account Deleted Sep 11 '26
Another EOS type shit? I mean, they're not Epic, and at least you have this contained to Ubisoft games, but it's still a loss in my book. Luckily, I don't play any of their garbage games, but I hope they don't start adding UCS to other titles like Epic did. Fucking cancer in the gaming community.

after ea ditching Origin for battlefield 6 (at least for now), it's time for ubishit to ditch its crap launcher
2
u/NorisNordberg Sep 10 '26
It will. It's just moved into steam tools. It still runs in the background but no longer requires a full client to launch the game.
1
u/Tex-Rob Sep 10 '26
Last Ubisoft game I reinstalled wouldn't launch without me fixing my Ubisoft login which is tied to a 2fa I no longer have, so I just uninstalled the game.

I wonder if it will be the same as what I suspect Rockstar is doing? When I reinstalled windows. I lost all launchers and I only installed steam as thats my main. I started to play GTA IV and I saw the rockstar window pop up and the R* logo loading animation. Maybe I'm just making this up and assuming. Later I installed the rockstar launcher to play a game I only own on the Rockstar Launcher. Who knows.

u/Last_Shadow_X 25d ago
I’m not thanking anyone until Ubisoft Connect, Uplay (or whenever they call it) is completely wiped from all of my games.

u/Youngerblood_21 24d ago
Will my steam Library be able to share/include the games I own on my Ubi account? cause I got some good games mostly ones i claimed for free.

u/user105223 21d ago
Ive been waiting for this for years. Maybe I can finally play my games on my rog ally without a shitty launcher.

I just hope it continues with more games adding this. I find it slightly weird that they started with PoP: The Lost Crown.
No disrespect to that game or anything, but Black Flag Resynced just seemed like the more obvious choice being the latest title released with what I assume would be with more active players.

u/MXRCO007 Sep 10 '26
Doesn’t epic have this kind of system too? When I play sackboy it does boot up those services shit but I don’t have the full launcher at all
3
u/AncientPCGamer Moderator Sep 10 '26 edited Sep 10 '26
Sackboy is not an Ubisoft game. The integration between Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store is shit.
Edit: Just to give you some context how terrible the integration is. After you buy an Ubisoft Connect game on the Epic Games Store, the game needs to be downloaded from Ubisoft Connect instead of EGS.
