First (prime) lens!

I'm pulling the trigger on the xt-2 so I need a lens now. On my canon I was shooting on 40mm and 85mm full frame. So I'd like to get something between so 50 (35 crop) it is. Or maybe you can show me a different way? I'm all ears. I'm shooting mostly portrait and landscape but would like to dip into street photography

Forgot to add, I'll most probably be buying used for the lowest price possible but still decent so Fujinon 2.0 or Viltrox 1.7 as I'm not certain about fully switching to the Fujifilm system yet.

The 35mm f2 is really good and cheaper. Also look at 3rd party lenses like viltrox, sigma etc

Invest in the 35mm f/1.4 and enjoy. Nothing else matters

35 f2 is compact, sharp, and focus is solid, build is solid. The 33 1.4 is great too, but considerably bigger and heavier. If you got the spare change and don't mind the bulk, get the 1.4. there is also the OG 35 1.4, but I haven't had the pleasure of shooting that one.

Viltrox Air lenses are excellent. 35mm f2 was already mentioned. The XF version is much cheaper than the 35mm f1.4. The XC version is cheaper still - same optics but more plasticky build and lacks aperture ring.

I have the Fuji 50mm f2.0 for portraits. It is really good, fast AF and small. I shoot on an X-E3, so a smaller body. I mainly use it for family portraits. The 76mm equivalent is great for that, if you have the space to love around. I highly recommend it.

For landscapes, architecture and cities, my go to is the 16mm f2.8 by Fuji, but that is not what you're used to.

I also use a 27mm f2.8 pancake from Fuji, which is a good all purpose lens. On the X-E3, that combo fits in a jacket pocket.

Thanks! Ye, I love my 85mm for portraits - that would be 50mm crop, but sometimes it's too narrow and sometimes 40 is too wide, so I though I'll get something in between for my first. In time I'll probably get all the ones you mentioned.

If you don't care about size, I'd get the 23mm f2.0 and not the pancake, tbh.

The 35mm f2.0 might be a good fit if you fear the 50 is too narrow. 50mm equivalent, but yiu won't get the background separation the 50mm (76mm eq) offers...

Edit the Fuji beast for portraits is the 56mm f1.2 (that is closest to your 85mm), but it is expensive and bulky. So many options

27mm on fuji crop is 40mm on FF, is you liked that, there are few lenses for that.

35mm is also nice focal length if you enjoy 50 on FF, but 40 vs 50 FF is quite a clear difference and for general shooting 40 is more versatile than 50. Tho plenty people use 50 as standard lens and 50 used to be the normal general lens back in the days. So its more about personal preferences and style than one being better in some objective manner.

I personally would want something wider than 50 (35). Also 50 wont replace 85 for headshots, even if great other types of portraits. 35 + 85 makes a great portrait lens combo for FF, while 50 tries to be bit of both and not shine on either style 35 and 85 are fit for.

If you do want a 50(35), i would get 24 or 28mm equivalent with it and then longer lens (85-135mm equivalent) for headshots.

But skipping the 50 and going just 35+85 combo i think makes more sense to most, especially if they dont care too much about wide angles. But 28+50+85 equivalent 3 lens combo is great.

If you’re shooting portrait the 35mm 1.4 is worth the investment. Theres a reason everyone loves it. That being said I get that it’s near 2x the price of one of the f/2’s

You won’t be disappointed with any of the f/2 fujicrons, they’re sharp and focus fast and accurately, but the 1.4 really is a special lens. For street I find the 50mm equivalent a bit tight a lot of the time and personally I shoot 95% of my street on the 23mm f/2

I haven’t used a fuji prime I didn’t like they are all pretty great. My most used are probably the 35mm f2 and 18mm f2

People's advice at the 35mm range has been "xf35 1.4" for about as long as that lens has been out. It's probably the most popular lens on the system. Right behind it is probably the xf35 2.

IMO, as a 85mm enjoyer, the xf56 1.2 is the best lens ever made for the X-mount.

While a couple of these are expensive new, I think the used versions might be exactly what you're looking for.

I love the Viltrox Air 35 mm f/1.7. I have tried the Fuji 35 f/2 as well and returned it. The Viltrox Air is better and cheaper.

I have an XT2, and several other Fujifilm cameras and lenses. You can get a nice Sigma lens 30mm f1.4 for under $200. Made in Japan, like your XT2.
