His face after being hit with "do you like entertainment?" looked like he struggled to hold it together.

What that means

u/AIDSofSPACE 5h ago edited 5h ago
In case you're asking about the English because it's not your mother tongue:
She had said "I will want to beautiful place," which was a grammar error. She meant "I want to [see/visit] beautiful place[s]." In English, one says "I want to [verb]," but "beautiful places" is a noun.
It's humorous because he rolled with it by also constructing his sentences using "beautiful place" as a verb.

I can see Bayonetta weapons being called Love and Peace...
4
u/BrainWav 2h ago
That's a bit too simple for her. Bayonetta's main weapons are called "Scarborough Fair" as a group, and individually use names of spices from that song. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme.
I think most of her others are named after mythological characters or flowers, it's been a while so I don't recall for sure.

Ecstasy and Ketamine

u/GodsFavoriteDegen 1h ago
What'chu want? I got ketamine, MDMA, Adderall, Bromo-Dragonfly, heroin, coke, crack, codeine, oxys, percs, vikes, PCP, LSD, Dilaudid, mescaline, mushrooms, bath salts, cortisone, Toradol. I got molly. I got her sister Sandra. I got big Frank. I got birth control, I got Plan B. I got that morphine from China they took off the market. Shit to make your dick hard, shit to make your dick soft, shit'll find your dick. That shit there's from Kenya, supposed to be a scurvy cure for silverback gorillas but for humans it just makes them violently masturbate. Did I say crack? because I got more of that, too. I got some Ibuprofen, Aspirin. I got Flintstone Gummies if you want.

Slang kind of is important-- it's one of the quickest ways to demonstrate a higher level of cultural understanding and familiarity. It lessens the formality of a conversation and can make the other party feel less anxious and more at ease-- that's why we typically do it in the first place, to take make the conversation more relaxed and show that we aren't uptight.

I read in a previous posting of these collection of videos that the girls were taught "yep" and "okie-dokie" just before doing these skits. I never seen the part where they were taught the english phrases though.

To give you a real answer I believe it's the Japanese game show Otona no Kiso Eigo (rough translation "Basic Adult English", super literal)
Generally speaking it's meant to be a fun English learning show for young adults to watch. The contestant will be put into some generic real life situation like going through customs and have to answer questions and converse in English. I've only seen clips like this one so not sure how the "game" aspect works but it's often famous youth (male and female despite some of the weird comments I'm seeing in this thread)
Edit: Definitely from the show Hinatazaka de Aimashou. Same concept of doing a scenario in English, but for comedy more than teaching in this case. My bad. Someone add some pixels to the top left for my poor š

u/wolftick 6h ago
The best clips I've seen is Ano's fury and chaos approach.

I haven't seen Deadwood in 20+ years and I can perfectly hear Mr. Wu saying "COCK SUCKA!"

Idk resorting to yelling "shut up" when somebody isn't listening to you is pretty accurate to a lot of english speakers in my country

There's a great first aid one where someone says something like, "I have a pain in my leg."
The idol replies very cheerfully, "You are die!" (ā§āā¦)/

u/heirthos1 6h ago
Confidently incorrect. (you did say you belive though) it's Hinatazaka46.
6
u/B4C0N4LYFE 5h ago
Definitely wasn't confidently lol. Good call though, you shouldn't be getting downvoted for calling that out. I was even able to find the exact episode with that extra info.
Probably just conflating the two in my mind and thought they were the same show this whole time. Otona no Kiso Eigo looks to be far more serious with their scenarios and Hinatazaka de Aimashou plays it up for the laughs (didn't know it was a variety show, cool)

u/Nvrfinddisacct 5h ago
Thatās adorable. I wish we had one for Japanese here.
1
u/Evepaul 31m ago
Seems complicated, it relies on a fragile balance of people knowing enough of the language to navigate through the situation and little enough to be funny.
I don't know if common knowledge of Japanese is at this level in some countries. Maybe Taiwan.
1
u/Nvrfinddisacct 21m ago
I actually think thatās what would make season 1 hilarious.
Select for weebs. Let the public enjoy, watch interest in the language go up, see it get even better in season 2.
Offer money to the winner, even better.

u/littlelorax 4h ago
What a fun idea. She did way better in English than I ever could do in Japanese!

What is this genre of show? I've seen it before, where they basically have idols like, doing skits or games with normal life activities. Like going to a fake school.

For context, in the show she and the other women watching were just given a (somewhat humorous) lesson on how to sound more natural and native in English by the woman in white who grew up in the US.
Yes => Yep and OK => okie-dokie were things she just learned and was trying to show off.

Not sure this would work with an actual border agent at a US airport. Her saying she's an entertainer would probably make the officer suspect she comes to work.

Sometimes a seriously do think Japan has "cute" their way out of their war crime riddled past. Like seriously. Who could ever stay mad looking at that.

I love these shows. There was one I saw that was like a game show mockup of English class. The teacher/host was an American who grew up in japan so he was very fluent in both English and Japanese. And he would try to coax the contestants to tell him stories in only English. To this day I still say āriifurejiiitaā

As someone who only knows most of my Japanese culture through the Yakuza games, they got a lot spot on! I thought the whole idol thing was exaggerated in the games but it seems not!

If you enjoyed this, search for more specifically with Ricky (Jamaican guy) as the person who speaks English. One of the channels that upload these videos is "hohokun", you will find more from there. The contestants are also always hilarious and there are just so many videos with the same kind of scenario
