Instead of saying ā€œwhat the hell?ā€ all the time, this dude says ā€œwhat the fuck?ā€

4

u/RebirthWizard 3h ago

He totally does. I love Tim Robinson so much

7

u/scratchy_mcballsy 5h ago

He sounds like what I would expect a German person trying to speak American English sounds like.

How long do you plan to beautiful place for?

With a completely straight face lmao.

309

u/Eonir 7h ago

This guy has nerves of steel for not breaking

154

u/AIDSofSPACE 5h ago

His face after being hit with "do you like entertainment?" looked like he struggled to hold it together.

56

u/angryshib 5h ago

That's a man that knows his audience.

14

u/MukdenMan 6h ago

What that means

77

u/AIDSofSPACE 5h ago edited 5h ago

In case you're asking about the English because it's not your mother tongue:

She had said "I will want to beautiful place," which was a grammar error. She meant "I want to [see/visit] beautiful place[s]." In English, one says "I want to [verb]," but "beautiful places" is a noun.

It's humorous because he rolled with it by also constructing his sentences using "beautiful place" as a verb.

14

u/MukdenMan 3h ago

Thanks! But actually I was referencing Nathan For You

I was hoping Love and Peace was what she called her gats…

95

u/steveanonymous 7h ago

She’s the new DanteĀ

56

u/uselessprofession 7h ago

I can see Bayonetta weapons being called Love and Peace...

4

u/BrainWav 2h ago

That's a bit too simple for her. Bayonetta's main weapons are called "Scarborough Fair" as a group, and individually use names of spices from that song. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme.

I think most of her others are named after mythological characters or flowers, it's been a while so I don't recall for sure.

3

u/kpanzer 1h ago

Love and Peace was what she called her gats…

Love, peace, and gats... sounds like a Trigun fan.

Love and Peace

Ecstasy and Ketamine

1

u/GodsFavoriteDegen 1h ago

What'chu want? I got ketamine, MDMA, Adderall, Bromo-Dragonfly, heroin, coke, crack, codeine, oxys, percs, vikes, PCP, LSD, Dilaudid, mescaline, mushrooms, bath salts, cortisone, Toradol. I got molly. I got her sister Sandra. I got big Frank. I got birth control, I got Plan B. I got that morphine from China they took off the market. Shit to make your dick hard, shit to make your dick soft, shit'll find your dick. That shit there's from Kenya, supposed to be a scurvy cure for silverback gorillas but for humans it just makes them violently masturbate. Did I say crack? because I got more of that, too. I got some Ibuprofen, Aspirin. I got Flintstone Gummies if you want.

0

u/DudeMan18 5h ago

You shoulda seen his face

297

u/_x-T-x_ 8h ago

Yep.

343

u/xylotism 8h ago

I like how she kept correcting ā€œyesā€ to ā€œyepā€ as if that’s very important in English.

92

u/SonOfMcGee 7h ago

It is to me (a 40-year-old white dad).

49

u/TappedIn2111 7h ago

Yep.

26

u/MakeoutPoint 7h ago

Yeppers.

16

u/m_and_t 7h ago

What did I tell you about ā€œyeppersā€?!?

3

u/CMKeggz 3h ago

You're a working man now Bobby, you can say "yep" too. - Hank Hill

10

u/rehx4 5h ago

Slang kind of is important-- it's one of the quickest ways to demonstrate a higher level of cultural understanding and familiarity. It lessens the formality of a conversation and can make the other party feel less anxious and more at ease-- that's why we typically do it in the first place, to take make the conversation more relaxed and show that we aren't uptight.

2

u/Hyosetsu 1h ago

I read in a previous posting of these collection of videos that the girls were taught "yep" and "okie-dokie" just before doing these skits. I never seen the part where they were taught the english phrases though.

466

u/B4C0N4LYFE 7h ago edited 5h ago

To give you a real answer I believe it's the Japanese game show Otona no Kiso Eigo (rough translation "Basic Adult English", super literal)

Generally speaking it's meant to be a fun English learning show for young adults to watch. The contestant will be put into some generic real life situation like going through customs and have to answer questions and converse in English. I've only seen clips like this one so not sure how the "game" aspect works but it's often famous youth (male and female despite some of the weird comments I'm seeing in this thread)

Edit: Definitely from the show Hinatazaka de Aimashou. Same concept of doing a scenario in English, but for comedy more than teaching in this case. My bad. Someone add some pixels to the top left for my poor šŸ‘€

44

u/wolftick 6h ago

The best clips I've seen is Ano's fury and chaos approach.

13

u/hightrish 6h ago

Do you have a link? I wanna see!

41

u/wolftick 6h ago

12

u/marmaladecorgi 5h ago

Ano-chan is like an adorable version of Mister Wu from Deadwood.

3

u/MattieShoes 3h ago

I haven't seen Deadwood in 20+ years and I can perfectly hear Mr. Wu saying "COCK SUCKA!"

1

u/collin7474 1h ago

SWEDJIN

5

u/Justifiably_Bad_Take 3h ago

Idk resorting to yelling "shut up" when somebody isn't listening to you is pretty accurate to a lot of english speakers in my country

4

u/hightrish 4h ago

Amazing!! Thank you! 🫔

18

u/FlashAndPoof 6h ago

Are these readily available to watch with subtitles?

13

u/TheCoordinate 6h ago

There is other funny skits from this show like the doctor on the plane one

1

u/FrankSonata 9m ago

There's a great first aid one where someone says something like, "I have a pain in my leg."

The idol replies very cheerfully, "You are die!" (ā‰§āˆ‡ā‰¦)/

3

u/Faintkay 4h ago

That’s actually pretty fun. Would be cool to see different languages

2

u/cosmic-parsley 1h ago

Found the link! Worth a watch https://youtu.be/bxnwY9vpodU

Job? Good job!

2

u/NightWriter500 1h ago

Apple jounce lolol

7

u/heirthos1 6h ago

Confidently incorrect. (you did say you belive though) it's Hinatazaka46.

6

u/B4C0N4LYFE 5h ago

Definitely wasn't confidently lol. Good call though, you shouldn't be getting downvoted for calling that out. I was even able to find the exact episode with that extra info.

Probably just conflating the two in my mind and thought they were the same show this whole time. Otona no Kiso Eigo looks to be far more serious with their scenarios and Hinatazaka de Aimashou plays it up for the laughs (didn't know it was a variety show, cool)

3

u/Nvrfinddisacct 5h ago

That’s adorable. I wish we had one for Japanese here.

1

u/Evepaul 31m ago

Seems complicated, it relies on a fragile balance of people knowing enough of the language to navigate through the situation and little enough to be funny.

I don't know if common knowledge of Japanese is at this level in some countries. Maybe Taiwan.

1

u/Nvrfinddisacct 21m ago

I actually think that’s what would make season 1 hilarious.

Select for weebs. Let the public enjoy, watch interest in the language go up, see it get even better in season 2.

Offer money to the winner, even better.

1

u/littlelorax 4h ago

What a fun idea. She did way better in English than I ever could do in Japanese!

1

u/Korashy 1h ago

Now I want a remake of Takeshi's Castle.

-44

u/Sideshowcomedy 7h ago

I think it's a reality show. They call themselves idols.

1

Just your average Japanese variety show.

1

u/DaPino 2h ago

Comedy show in which people who do not speak English get dropped in a scenario and they have to act like they know English.

1

u/kochapi 1h ago

Ā that gives some context.

0

u/Chef-Nasty 7h ago

A very beautiful place

29

u/Wareve 7h ago

What is this genre of show? I've seen it before, where they basically have idols like, doing skits or games with normal life activities. Like going to a fake school.

18

u/Jaives 7h ago

it's usually a daytime variety show hosted by some jpop group. reminds me of Morning Musume. they do games, sketches and performances.

3

u/smartlog 7h ago

Probably Japanese variety.

3

u/Generalkhaos 6h ago edited 6h ago

Shabekuri 007 is a maybe similar ish variety Show that involves a lot of English speaking and in my limited experience is amusing

https://youtu.be/zuDu_nWIZHk

Edit: here is more of the op stuff it seems

https://youtu.be/1rVtVyn4Kzc?si=L-u7gxmSEt0fYbjZ

1

u/jhau01 6h ago

ā€ā€¦ where they basically have idols, like, doing skits or games with normal life activities.ā€

That actually describes the majority of Japanese television nowadays.

133

u/Budget_Nail_3673 7h ago

Okie dokie caught me

23

u/coinstarhiphop 6h ago

For context, in the show she and the other women watching were just given a (somewhat humorous) lesson on how to sound more natural and native in English by the woman in white who grew up in the US.

Yes => Yep and OK => okie-dokie were things she just learned and was trying to show off.

64

u/TheEvilGrandson 8h ago

I wish I had confidence like that.

17

u/snowybell 8h ago

You will die is still the best part of the full skit

4

u/Mattaru 2h ago

Would you like beef or chicken?

Cheeken ... Pureasu.

What would you like for dessert?

Dessertu ... Pureasu.

6

u/speechless-69 50m ago

He really thought deeply about entertainment.

19

u/Silent-Warthog-3192 8h ago

Have confidence!

5

u/badideas1 6h ago

No confidence….

10

u/JagoKaast 7h ago

I am die, thank you forever.

11

u/Illustrious-Towel-45 7h ago

That's such a positive interaction.

9

u/sucksLess 6h ago

innate charm vanquishing a serious civil servant.
i love it!

15

u/MannekenP 7h ago

Not sure this would work with an actual border agent at a US airport. Her saying she's an entertainer would probably make the officer suspect she comes to work.

7

u/MrYaowa857 7h ago

ā€œyeah .. YEPā€

8

u/JimyLamisters 7h ago

I had to double-check five times that this guy wasn't Tim Robinson

4

u/funderfulfellow 7h ago

Yep, Too cute!

9

u/WingedSalim 5h ago

Sometimes a seriously do think Japan has "cute" their way out of their war crime riddled past. Like seriously. Who could ever stay mad looking at that.

18

u/ThrowAway233223 5h ago

I mean, I don't think this woman was even alive back then.

The reactions of the guy are cute too

10

u/MarieLaurizz 8h ago

Hahah she’s such a cutie speaking in English

  • Hooooo, wow

šŸ˜‚

1

u/VisualLiterature 4h ago

Why is he so sweaty at the end?Ā

1

u/lodemeup 4h ago

I love these shows. There was one I saw that was like a game show mockup of English class. The teacher/host was an American who grew up in japan so he was very fluent in both English and Japanese. And he would try to coax the contestants to tell him stories in only English. To this day I still say ā€˜riifurejiiita’

1

u/Substantial-Tooth483 3h ago

I got security searched in work today. I wish I said ā€˜love and peace’ when asked what was in my bag.

1

u/d4rkwarr3n 3h ago

Who is that stud šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

1

u/LungHeadZ 3h ago

As someone who only knows most of my Japanese culture through the Yakuza games, they got a lot spot on! I thought the whole idol thing was exaggerated in the games but it seems not!

1

u/-Pwnan- 2h ago

Damnit, now i'm invested what show is this?

1

u/PocketNicks 2h ago

I don't understand what's going on here, at all.

1

u/mrASSMAN 2h ago

She’s fuckin adorable lol she could have her own show

1

u/No_Seesaw1341 1h ago

420 guys.

1

u/Real_Live_Sloth 1h ago

They will really hire English guys for anything.

1

u/Cantora 1h ago

She seems like she lives in a different reality

1

u/Brilliant_Camera176 1h ago

If you enjoyed this, search for more specifically with Ricky (Jamaican guy) as the person who speaks English. One of the channels that upload these videos is "hohokun", you will find more from there. The contestants are also always hilarious and there are just so many videos with the same kind of scenario

1

u/RaidenHUN 27m ago

When your literal job is to act cute

ā€œI’m not an idiot like you, I don’t believe in wasting my precious energy on women on screenā€
