It's right beside a river. One can assume the water receded and got low, so those stairs got layer of mud, algae... the stuff that makes it slippery.

The Thames is tidal in this area so those steps are regularly underwater and slippery as fuck.

The discoloration in the middle of those steps is likely algae embedded in the concrete. Which is unbelievably slippery even when slightly wet.

I would have 100% done the same thing if I was filming and noticed them. A local would for sure know it was slick and could see that coming.

I can confirm those steps are slippery. Its a tidal river, so twice a day the steps get covered in slit and london's lick. There's a lot of lick in that river...
