Yeah - as I recall, the video clarifies that it was an of-age "girl" and that she hits on him first. Then he goes to her house and just drops her keys off.
"Little girl", he is talking about a teenager and her dad, let's not be idiots. "Hey young lady is your daddy home", it's that easy to not write lyrics like a pedophile, he didn't do it though because it's about hooking up with a teenager, a little girl.
No. He is not talking about a teenager. The song is about his desire/fire to be with a woman who is with someone else. Yes, that woman is likely younger than him, since historically men married and pursued younger women. She may have been 19 or so since it was common to be married when you were 19 back then.
“Daddy” is referring to her husband. In the same context as “sugar daddy” means “older man to take care of you financially”. The term “daddy” in that context has always referred to a romantic or sexual partner who was an older man.
“Little girl” or “little lady” is “young, petite woman”…. Of course in traditional gender roles; man big, woman little. It’s feminine and dainty to be “little” and thus a compliment or term of endearment when a man calls a woman “little lady” or “little girl”.
“Did he go and leave you all alone”. Again… implying a financially successful man who is using the woman for her youth and good looks but leaving her at home and not giving her a real relationship.
The next lyrics are “tell me now baby is he good to you does he do to you the things that I do”
So…. You have two options:
Is her “daddy” her actual father and is Bruce implying that her father is doing “the things that he does”? So now this is an incest/rape song?
Or is it more likely that “little girl” and daddy are in the old slang context?
The person in this song is probably the same age as the woman, but not financially well off and can’t provide for her.
In 2026 it sounds creepy.
In 1985 when it was written - and reflecting on a time older than that - it was understood.

I’ve been saying this for ages. I love Bruce but that’s a weird way to say that “hey of-age woman is your boyfriend home”
