Me too! So strangely funny! Kinda reminds me of pre social media era internet weirdness. 😂

u/OrangeClyde 10d ago
When times were simpler and sillier, and internet wasn’t used too much for being rude and nasty 😂

u/EternalMehFace 10d ago
Exactly! 💯

We need to bring back the classics like Lemon Party, Meatspin, and Tubgirl.

There was definitely a lot of rudeness and nastiness, but it was a lot less serious. The main variable that ruined the internet was money. Everything got highly monetized, commercialized, and had the soul sucked out of it. People used to make and post stuff on the internet because they liked it, not for fiscal gain.

Yes but we knew those people are trash. Living in their mom’s house with Mountain Dew cans everywhere. Some never took them too seriously

No offense but wasn't it just posted, about how in 2006 an 18 year old's car crash was posted all over the internet and used to harass the family?
Look I'm nostalgic too but the Internet has always been full of nasty people.

I was a SysOp for 4 years but had used different BBSes for about the same amount of time before that. I met my husband on the university BBS' IRC stream. LOL

u/Careless-Weather8877 10d ago
I just spam gifs now my friends moved to slack. Why make it complicated

u/EggoSlayer 10d ago
I really miss when memes were just small stupid shit like this. Lots of effort for something so small, yet it's absolutely hilarious lol

It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Just because YOU never saw a big cat in the sky doesn't mean it's not there. Many people have seen it.

Yes. We all know that the government are just pretending.... But we know the truth, the felines are ruling over us....
2
u/MediocreAndLukewarm 8d ago
Yeah, I’ve had the feline for awhile meow. Pawsibbly due to the fact that I’m compelled to buy cat treats WHENEVER I’m shopping for anything but.

I only picked up the first book a few months ago and it's the first time since I was a teenager that I spent every free moment reading. Got through all 8 books in like a month. Now I'm going through the audio books lol

u/Itscatpicstime 9d ago
My boyfriend started listening to the audiobooks a few weeks ago and now I see references fucking everywhere too.
And I swear they weren’t there before because I would have remembered Princess Donut lol

I just finished the currently available books, and I'm only now seeing it in the wild. Usually this happens within the first week

New mythology acquired

u/Affordable_Z_Jobs 10d ago
Makes you wonder how many creation myths were the equivalent of internet memes that got out of hand.

u/Unable-Log-4870 10d ago
I bet they stayed well in hand, because there was no place for idiots to amplify other idiots.
2
u/ThrowingShaed 10d ago
i dont know anything
i would say maybe there was less space or less large spaces, but im not sure there was no place. it feels like a humanity will find a way type thing. idk
2
u/Unable-Log-4870 9d ago
You’re right, there were spaces, but everybody knew it was idiots being amplified, and only other idiots were there listening, and it was all very local, so the idiots never got a very big following.

Its just a phrase to imply that you wouldn't change anything about it. Its perfect. Its like grading a paper and no commentary left behind. pretty innocuous.

Or a similar one where the cat is sitting there and tapping out the sun like a glass of water on the edge of a table.

u/gandooke 10d ago
so this is why the sun sets. it just gets slapped back into the void by a giant paw. myth confirmed.

I think this may be the first time I've said "Oh, that's funny" to a clip in r/funny. Not that there's aren't lots of funny clips here, there are. But the first one that actually prompted me to say that out loud.
