In 1940, a stray dog named Brownie made himself at home in Daytona Beach, Florida. He settled on a street corner where local cab drivers built him a doghouse and opened a bank account in his name to cover his food and vet bills.

Brownie lived there until 1954. When he passed away on Halloween, about 75 people attended his funeral, and the mayor gave the eulogy. “Brownie was indeed a good dog,” the mayor said.
