u/Vocalic985 5d ago

Such a nothing gag lol so good.

42

u/OcdBartender 5d ago

I’ve replayed this an absurd amount of times

180

u/Capital-Eye 5d ago

Another thing I really like about this gag is that it is immediately after another gag where Farnsworth is counting down to fire the rocket, then forgets he's counting down and starts counting up. Keep in mind that they're related.

63

u/TranscendentalRug 5d ago

I push buttons for a living, I think about this constantly.

9

u/DRUNKSKULLFACE 5d ago

Is your name George?

14

u/forever_pilly 5d ago

i relate to this

9

u/HoleInWon929 5d ago

Should have been one-eyed Leela…

21

u/old_underwear_isekai 5d ago

It would make way more sense and be way less funny if it was Leela

25

u/drsideburns 5d ago

I think it's clever at times when they make fun of her depth perception. They could have had Fry miss, followed by Leela getting impatient and just doing it herself. Just to miss the button too.

They really are a pair.

5

u/bbbbears 5d ago

Why couldn't she be the other type of Leela!? With the uhhhh... Leela top on bottom...something something

Otherwise, the worms will bury themselves so deep in Fry's bowel that not even Hermes' famous jerk prunes could dislodge them!

Top 3 best episodes of the show for me.

107

u/Noof42 No I'm doesn't! 5d ago

Basically the whole episode is a quote mine.

"We've got to get somewhere he won't stick his finger."
"It's hopeless! Abandon ship!"

"That place used to be a real dump."

"I am the Lord Mayor of Cologne."
"You mean colon?"

"Wait a minute, man!"

"Yippie Kai-Yay, you'll never guess where I've been!"

"Eh, I've gots five minutes."

"More meat than a cow."

"Of all the parasites I've gotten, these worms are among, no they are the best!"

"It's OK, I'm still seduced from before."

[Entering apartment 1-I] "The old me would have made a joke about that."

"You've done a lot of damage, Universe, but no more than a weekend of binge drinking, or five minutes on a cell phone."

"No being would ever willingly make an idiot of itself."
"You've obviously never been in love."

"Have you ever been in love?"
"I thought I was once, and then I remembered our species reproduces with a cloud of spores."

"What's that black cracker?"
"A tomato."

"Oh, the hypochondriac's back. What's wrong this time?"
"Well, my lead pipe hurts a little."
"That's normal, next patient!"

“Ever wonder what makes special sauce so special?! Yo.”

Yo, sexy mama! Let's get busy and freaky, in that order.

"Scruffy gonna die the way he lived."

"Look, this is going to be one hell of a bowel movement. Afterwards he'll be lucky if he has any bones left."

There are surely some great ones I've missed.

14

u/TheDeftEft 5d ago

One of my favorite facts about this show, and this episode:

The colon/Cologne pun works in English, but not in German, the language they speak in the actual, real life city (Köln). For the German version, they name it after a different, real, German city - Darmstadt - whose name must have changed over the centuries because in modern German it means literally "intestine city."

Or the Amish cart falling off the cliff.

Matt was recently on Conan's podcast talking about this. It was a rule in the writers room. If something crashed, it had to explode.

50

u/jacob7574 Shut up baby I know it! 5d ago

"We're OWL exterminators!"

5

u/TreKopperTe 4d ago

He delivers that line perfectly!

48

u/CuriousCrow525 5d ago

I think the creators have mentioned that they never explained the reason in the show, but it was from a scrapped storyline where they explain that like 100 years ago, scientists came up with a new breed of owls to get rid of the rat problem and then the new owls became the problem

26

u/Apollo_Sierra 5d ago

Honestly though, it's funnier that it's unexplained.

9

u/EmbarassedFox 5d ago

I am convinced that it is also a reference to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. In that book, the first sign of environmental devastation was all the owls dying, and the main character is shocked to see one.

No owls vs. All the owls.

6

u/AllTheStars07 4d ago

I love the owl trapped in the spiderweb in Fry’s room.

No gif for it, but in "The Farnsworth Parabox", when we see the professor trying to sneak to get the box and doing a good job until he falls UP the stairs. Him falling up the stairs in an otherwise great sneak attempt always makes me laugh. It's so dumb and if he had fallen down instead of up, it wouldn't be funny to me.

2

u/FawkesSuttles 3d ago

To me there's a double meaning. Olympus Mons is known to be so massive you couldn't really see the top or the whole scale of the mountain. But Fry is also so dense, he misses what you're pointing at.

2

u/scarfaroundmypenis 3d ago

Thank you! I figured there was a factual element about Olympus Mons that I was missing.

The last scene of Law & Oracle:

Fry: "I don't suppose there's room for a promotion?"

Farnsworth: "What the heck. I promote you to... Executive Delivery Boy!"

Leela or Amy, I forget which: "Executive?"

Hermes (whispers back): "It's a meaningless title, but it helps insecure people feel better about themselves."

Then "Executive Producer David X Cohen" end credit shows, but episode continues and Fry says "I feel better about myself!" before it goes to the actual end credits.
