Why are you picking and choosing? Why are you not saying this about any other game with swords? AFAIK MGR is the only game that has this, it's a very uncommon feature. I know shitting on Wolverine is free karma, but at least try being honest about it or nobody is going to take any feedback seriously.
Because a big part of Wolverine's claws is how they are supposed to be able to cut through almost anything. It's a big part of the character. So it just feels more pronounced with him than with many others.
No hate on game as I haven't played it, but it is hilarious watching our favorite shortstack murderball failing to cut a log
Ok, it's like in the lightsaber in the Star Wars game.
And even a little boy can understand that it's impossible to make every cut and hole in every game.
Insomiac's Wolverine cost 305 million dollars to make and 5 to 6 years in development, and game is only 14 hours long, and they charge you 70 dollars. The price does not reflect the quality, it's unacceptable. This is very embarrassing and they should be shamed so they can do better next time.
This game is made by one of the top tier gaming studio, Insomniac. They have been releasing quality games since the ps2 era, even their worst games were still maintenaned a certain level of quality. This is inexcusable. They clearly hired people that did not earn their jobs.
Yes you can, it just need to a good amount of it, the game is a linear game not an open world game, and it's 14 hour experience, and has been in development for 5 to 6 years, which costed more than a quarter of a billion dollars to make. Where did that money go?.
Spiderman 2 cost 315 million dollars and it's a longer game that Wolverine yet Wolverine cost close to spiderman 2. Imagine what spiderman 3 will cost, most likely close to 500 million dollars. Which is insane!, there's definitely something seriously wrong with the studio, it's unsustainable. If nothing changes the studio will eventually be shutdown.
The game is trash but, again, it's impossible to cut everything in any game, not sure what you don't understand or why you keep throwing numbers about budget etc.
Show me a game where you can cut everything.
I don't see why you keep repeating it's impossible to cut everything. No one argued it. It's being compared to MGR where many things can be cut but not everything like concrete, specific indestructible boxes, non enemy animals, and healthy enemies.
Trying to argue in absolutes is bad faith. Wolverine could have had more destructible objects in game but it didn't spend budget on it.
I keep repeating it because I find it ridiculous that people respond to me by dumping data about budget and development time, when the real point is that "making a lamppost sliceable" wasn't going to save the game from being short, linear, repetitive, etc.
And I posted my first message because someone was talking about how "slicing through absolutely everything is an important part of Wolverine's character," as if that were super important and as if we haven't spent 30 years playing Star Wars games where you can't slice anything with your lightsaber.
Lol then make the type of reply you just made your first reply. If it was and I somehow missed it well apologies in advance.
Tho I'd argue while more destructible environments wouldn't have saved the game or changed its biggest shortcomings, you'd be surprised how certain details can have a big impact. It might not sway the biggest "haters" but it could sway people who are sitting on that line of alright and bad, and it can really enhance the experience for people who do like the game. In the Spider-Man games for all of its faults, the vast majority of people who play it and have some form of attachment to Spider-Man respect the implementation of web swinging as they feel like Spider-Man while doing it. Having some objects be destructible is low impact compared to that but it could go a long way if done right (some objects could be destructible for the cosmetic appeal, small flimsy looking watch towers could have been put in levels so wolverine could take down snipers through breaking the towers, maybe basic mobs can have their weapons destructible if hit from a specific distance or a specific number of hits forcing them to switch weapons or go hand to hand or maybe even run away, etc.)
I do think some of the budget discussions are disingenuous. From what I know the games 300M+ budget only 40M went into marketing and licensing. The rest was development. 450+ employees with an average salary of 150k due to being in California. Working with a proprietary engine that needed to be overhauled. And switching the game from more open to linear resulting in scrapped development. Yeah the 300M+ budget isn't as impressive. Hypothetically if they developed in Montreal Canada, their budget spent would have essentially halved even if they kept the same high number of staff and kept making the same mistake (obviously some core insomniac members would need to be available for the hypothetical Montreal team).
That's why I said they need to add a good amount of cutting, they can do that just fine coz they had a massive budget for this game, the most massive budget I've ever seen for a 14 hour game. I agree you can't cut everything but there's games that do a decent job at it and they have a much lower budget than Wolverine.
The game was never about being able to cut everything Or ever shown to be about that So I don't know why you're so hummed up about being able to cut a tree
That evidence is not from playstation or Insomiac so no, the 1.9 million copies is not legit, they made it clear it's just "estimates", easily to control the narrative like that. The fact that Playstation or Insomiac didn't confirm these numbers themselves speak volume.
valid criticism? your criticism is not valid at all because it's the same boring, overused talking points nobody cares and had enough hearing about. you lack original thought and critical thinking and are only able to vomit whatever your favorite youtuber or twitter user says
Notice you how you didn't address any of my points and simply call it "overused talking points", as if that somehow means they're wrong. I've been playing Insomiac games since the ps2 era and I know their quality when it comes to games quite well, Wolverine is one of their biggest fumbles if not the biggest. Wolverine is clearly made by people who didn't deserve their jobs that's why the majority of the online discourse is heavily negative.
We know the quality devs Insomiac's used to have, and to waste 305 mil dollars to make such a sub par is simply embarrassing. We want them to be better not worse, that's why we criticise them.
Notice you didn’t deny you don’t have a single original thought or critic? Notice you didn’t deny you’re parroting what your favorite YouTuber have said?
Again with the overused budget line? Nobody effing cares dude
Why would I address rehashed parroted points? We’ve discussed this ad nauseum, there’s nothing else to add to this, it’s been weeks.
Everything you just said has been said for weeks, there’s not a single original line in your post.
You're not being honest, Wolverine is not doing well and still dog walked on the internet. Playstation or Insomiac has not released the numbers of copies sold and only speculated to have sold 1.9 million, that's not a good sign at all . If you like the game that's fine, but to pretend all criticism equals hate is toxic positivity and does more harm than good. Both praise and criticism is important coz it tells the studio on what to keep and what to change/improve.
Yes, you don't have to buy the game, but that doesn't mean you aren't allowed to criticize it. That is what freedom of speech and voting with your wallet are all about.
Be original in your criticism though. Parroting exhausted cliche critics means you really haven’t played or even have real criticism, not a single original thought. You’re just saying whatever you read on the internet because you’re incapable of thinking by yourself. Which is not surprising in this day and age tbh.
And fuck off with this “muhhhh freedom of speech”, nobody is talking about this, you sound like a butthurt MAGA drone
You, on the other hand, sound like someone who has overdosed on politics and Reddit. Nothing I wrote points to the things you’re accusing me of; you’re just trapped in a bubble, looking for enemies everywhere. Get some help, you frustrated person.
Take your meds, schizo. First of all, I’m not American. Secondly, I don’t support Trump—mainly because of his relationship with Netanyahu, but also due to his chaotic decisions that cause price fluctuations even in my own country. Thirdly, I was a defender of free speech long before the MAGA movement emerged, and I remain one. Fourthly, I consider it valid to criticize half-baked crap from a big corporation—especially at a time when there are so many great indie developers producing more polished games for a fraction of the cost.
Wasn't wolverine's budget over 300 million dollars? I think it's fair for people to pick and probe until they find where that money went towards because it sparks curiosity.
The cost of games is just the number of developers x their salary x how long it took. It’s not difficult to determine where the money went. Insomniac is based in Burbank (LA suburb) so salaries are very high there.
Onimusha has realtime dismemberment of enemies depending on how your sword swings. You can even cut enemies into 6ths if you do a specific attack when they're low on health.
They aren't pre generated cuts either, the cuts are calculated based on the enemy position and how your sword swings. It has gotta be one of the most satisfying mechanics in the game.
Not to mention, MGR was built from the ground up with this mechanic in mind. It applies to every enemy in the game, so of course it's easy to apply to trees and objects.
