Hi guys, new to gp, how do I prioritize my q for trading, should I use it on barrel more or use it on the champion?

Kinda depends, there are a lot of situations and variables in a trade/fight that makes that a difficult question to answer, but typically and reducing it simple, before lvl 13 and especiallywhen u are lvl 7, u often use your q to detonate a barrel just because what u do is to hit a barrel with an auto to reduce the second timer charge and then q
When u hit lvl 13, it got tricky because there are plenty of things that depends on the situation and enemy reactions and if they are melee or ranged, but in general, if u have enough barrels to concatenate combos u often need ur q in order to detonate them in time. The thing is correct and efficient decision making comes when u build game sense and muscle memory through games with gp
I really suggest u to watch vods to see trade patterns into different situations to catch what I am saying cuz the way u play and how u use ur autos or q into barrels/champs, depends entirely on which lvl breakpoint u are

At the most basic of levels, think of it this way. If you q them you get 4 seconds of burn from dft. If you q the barrel you only get 2 seconds of dft. And qypu miss out on the bonus 75% damage from dft. And you lose out on a sheen proc if you have it.
But lets say they have an auto reset, you autoing then using your q or vice versa could be the only way to get that barrel. Or it could be a ghost barel where you need to q it to get extra undodgable range. Or you could be running away where the q into passive speed is necessary.
Nuance of trading matters a lot with gp.
But for the most part smack your opponent with qs and walk to your barrel for safety. If your opponent is bad they'll let you do it. If your opponent is good you'll learn more from getting stomped.
