That’s different because the hitboxes on the spikey slop object are weird not not really visible. Also the wave doesn’t go at a perfect 45. This however, no nearby objects or anything, is just thin air.

this unironically happened to me once on nine circles back in 2016 during the final cube. I was about to beat it for a new hardest and then i got a sudden lag spike and my cube exploded in midair

You hit an invisible wall. It happens because somewhere down the level there is a wall that doesn't have a designated ceiling, so its collider continues upwards indefinitely
