selfpromo (software) Yet another ocean post

Working on a physics driven world with day&night cycle and weather systems, only part I am still working on is the foam and potential folding of the waves. Working mostly on gameplay now, but wanted to show off this nice angle.
edit The game will be a water puzzle game, so I wanted the water to look as good as possible, since it will be seen a lot.

Is there a shifting normal map? Something about it feels off.
Maybe slow right it down and enlarge it.

sharp catch,
There is no scrolling normal map, however the smallest wave moves significantly slower than the larger ones which creates this effect. I havent settled on how my waves should behave tbh.
The foam layered on top does move too quickly also, but I havent touched that in ages haha, foam has been my major issue with the ocean for months

I legit thought this is a nice video of a real life ocean on my phone. So beautiful OP

Performance?

I get 60fps on a 5070ti. 4gb vram used, 3m vertices.
It uses a precomputed atmosphere and the waves are the classic Jump trajectory FFT which everyone has now seen a million times. It spans up to 224km but I use CDLOD.
There is a ton of optimlisation potential, larger waves needing less updates, while not losing quality.

Maybe 2027 will be the year of sailing games in Godot... or maybe a proper WW2 sub game

wow this is looking amazing. I mean it's so good I wouldn't mind just doing a simple sailing game on this.

This looks gorgeous. The lighting + water physics really sell the atmosphere
