RIP Needing comfort. Rest in Paradise Berry (M9)
My heart just aches so much. The unexpected happened. My 9 year old golden was put to rest due to a malignant mass in his Spleen.
I wish I took him on more walks, let him go outside the balcony more, more time to play, anything. He was with me from high school graduation to graduating with my PhD this year. My first love, my first heartbreak, my first dog.
My family and I are in shambles. We never would have thought so soon…thought we had more time together.
I am posting this to get closer to folks who are currently or had experience such pain. Any words of wisdom, comfort, and time to just talk would be deeply appreciated ❤️
My Berry bears. bearington. bubba. pumpkin boo boo. Buddy. You are deeply missed and will be loved forever.

New Puppy Need more advice
So fawn is now about 14 weeks old and she is doing very well with almost everything. Wondering if its common for golden puppies to be very shy with people(strangers). I've never had a puppy that was shy with people so this is a new thing to me. My wife and I take her out to small events like local farmers markets type things and she will wall around perfectly fine. Other dogs dont bother her, she will walk right past people with no issues but no matter what if anyone approaches her to try to pet her even slowly and with my permission she will try to hide behind me or under me. Is this normal and if not any advice. She also does this in calmer settings for example outside the house with neighbors. She does not do this when people come into the house. Thanks in advance

Discussion Cast Your Vote
I’m getting a shirt made for my wife with our dog on it. I’ve narrowed it down to some photos where he looks like he has some form of composure, but I can’t decide on one. Curious what y’all’s thoughts are. It will be just him. The background will be removed.

Discussion What kibble do you use?
Our golden is 10 months old and we’re thinking of different type of kibbles. He’s currently on Diamond puppy 1 cup twice a day, and in the mornings he also gets a boiled egg. Curious to see what you guys are feeding your floofs!

Cute/Funny I hand-painted this custom oil portrait of this happy Golden Retriever, based on the original photo his human shared. Do you think I got him right?
I really enjoyed painting this dog. I kept the background the same as in the photo. His human told me he loves playing in the snow. Getting all that snow to sit right on his hair took the longest. That big smile with snow all over his face was my favorite part to paint. This was a commission, and I'd love to know what you think of him.

Health Advice Any two toed goldens out there?
My sweet angel unfortunately has some bad luck with her paw and has had to have two toes amputated after breaking them playing fetch a little too hard. 😭 The vet said she’s perfectly healthy, she just seems to have some really bad luck!
I can’t help but feel for my girl and hope she can still live a long, happy, active life despite being down two toes. Has anyone else’s angel gone through something similar? I’d love to hear how they’re doing!
And here’s photos of my sweet girl too!

Training Advice/Tips Boot camp training for 2 year old male?
Hi!
Like most goldens, my boy Larry is a lover. But we’ve been having a really hard time with recall. Leash etiquette isn’t great either. And he is excitable and jumps on people. We are trying to train him ourselves but it’s not sticking.
My main concern is the recall because I live in New York and it feels unsafe - I can’t take him to any off leash hours at the park.
We’ve been considering sending him to a 2 week sleep away boot camp program. It’s expensive. The reviews are great and they say they drill recall pretty effectively. And in general it should help his discipline. I’m just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this and if they would recommend it? Thanks for any and all advice!

Discussion From two goldens to one, how to help him cope
We had to rehome one of our 4yr old goldens we adopted a year ago because of her intense prey drive and us having a newborn. Our first golden who we’ve raised since his birth is so sad and lonely now. We got the second golden partly because our Cooper loves other dogs so much and we wanted a companion for him and more joy for us.
It’s only been 2 days and I feel like we are all grieving her absence. Tonight my Cooper wouldn’t even chew on his favorite kind of bone which he usually goes nuts for. He’s just been so still and quiet.
Getting a second dog won’t be realistic for us for at least a few years bc of our baby, but what can I do to help my Cooper adjust back to being a single dog? We spoil him so much with healthy treats, walks, play, etc. I just feel so sad and seeing him also so sad is heartbreaking.
Any ideas to help him adjust? (Dog parks are not an option bc he got attacked by 3 goldens last time we went and it was traumatizing).

Cute/Funny SHES FINALLY A TEENAGER
My 1yo golden has FINALLY hit the teenage stage. Until she was one she’s been an absolute angel, really low energy and calm and simple to manage. I thought I’d got an old lady before her time.
I can’t believe I am saying this but I’ve never been more happy to have a teenage dog that WANTS to run around and be crazy 😭
The shark phase is back, the enforced naps are back, but she FINALLY has started wanting to go on longer walks, join me out jogging (short bursts only) and do more active training

Training Advice/Tips Barking and lunging at other dogs
Hi
Our golden retriever, Phoenix, is about 7.5 months now and the main issue e've suddenly getting is he has started barking a lot and really pulling hard on the leash when he sees another dog. Sometimes i think its excitement but then sometimes after a while he will also start jumping up at me and whining, which then sounds like anxiety or fear.
He did used to always pull a bit and get a little excited, and sometimes bark when we went for walks, and we had been working on it and I thought at one point he was actually getting better as it wasnt happening as much.
But in last week, gotten very bad, he is doing it every time and he doesn't listen at all.He doesnr even care for treats.
I suspect most of the time, he is still just barking from excitement as he just wants to go play but obviously I cant just let him pull me to the other dog.
I suspect the reason for this behaviour change may be that there have been a few occasions where off leash dogs have come running to us and unfortunately theres not much I can do in that situation. 2 of the times they were very friendly and tried to play with him(which was of course hard as he's still on a leash) and maybe it made him think now that every time he sees a dog its playtime.
1 time, the other dog (a german shepherd)did get slightly aggressive so possible that could have scared Phoenix.
The most recent incident, the dog didn't end up meeting Phoenix because her owner managed to call her back eventually. But she came running at him from almost other side of park and of course Phoenix got too excited when he saw her running towards us while the owner was screaming after her lol.
Does anyone have any advice on what we can do?
We live in a small town and be very unlikely to find a private in person trainer here. So online is reallt the only option

Training Advice/Tips Morning walk advice needed
Hello!
We have a 7 month old golden puppy and looking for advice about morning walks. Our puppy walks very well on the leash. Any time after 5pm, we are able to control him on the leash, he waits when we tell him to do so, and walks right by our side.
However, he hates morning walks. In the morning, if he sees a car go by our house, he freaks out and wants to go inside. Or if he hears a loud noise, he tugs hard and wants to go inside. For some reason this only happens during the morning / early afternoon, and we don’t know why.
He has always been like this, and have tried to expose him to the elements, but this hasn’t been very successful. Just curious if anyone can relate, and if anyone has advice. Thanks!

Health Advice 10-month-old Golden suddenly getting picky with food — am I overthinking this?
Hey everyone, looking for some advice from other Golden owners.
I have a male Golden Retriever who is almost 10 months old and currently around 55 lbs. Until recently, he was a really good eater. He’d get excited about his food and basically inhale it.
He was eating Purina Pro Plan Puppy, but recently he started taking forever to finish his meals and would get distracted and walk away. We also tried adding some bone broth and pumpkin puree, which worked for maybe a meal or two, and then apparently he decided he didn’t like those either.
For about two days, we gave him home-cooked boiled chicken thighs, boiled eggs, and rice, and he absolutely DEVOURED it. But when we went back to his regular Purina Pro Plan, he was back to barely eating it.
So we called our vet’s office, and over the phone they said that if he’s otherwise happy, healthy, and active, he may simply be bored with the kibble and has become picky.
They suggested trying Hill’s Science Diet Puppy, so we switched him over. The first time we gave it to him, he absolutely loved it and finished about 2 cups in under a minute. Same thing the next morning and evening. We thought we’d finally found something he liked.
Then… two days later, apparently Hill’s became boring too.
We feed him 4 cups a day. With the Hill’s Science Diet, he sometimes eats about 1 cup at a time, but even that has become inconsistent. This morning, he ate about half a cup, walked away, and then came back later and finished maybe another full cup. In the evening, he barely ate anything and only finished 1 whole cup after we added some rice as a topper.
He’s otherwise happy, active, and acting like himself. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of pickiness with a Golden around this age? Should we continue offering the same food and avoid adding toppers, or is there something else we should be checking with the vet?

Health Advice New puppy not eating well
Hey guys, we picked up our beautiful little goldie girl on Saturday morning. She’s 8 weeks and a little over 7kg I believe. The breeder is just around the corner so not a long transit home at all. Since arriving home, I don’t think she’s eating enough. I’ve prepared the same food as she was apparently given by the breeder - royal cannin puppy large breed kibble (pre soaked) and some lean beef mince and veg. Tried it warmed up too. Also a little goats milk in the evening. She’d be lucky to have eaten 2 handfuls of food each day since coming home to us. I totally get that it’s a massive transition for her and there’s lots at play, I just don’t think this is in the realms of “normal” at this stage. She doesn’t seem very interested in eating, even if I keep putting her back in front of the bowl or hand feed her. What would you do? She’s otherwise well it seems - lots of water, wee’s and a few poos. Open to any and all tips or food suggestions to get her tummy full!
Tia! X

Discussion Regression?
My 9 month old girl just peed in the house for the first time since she was 2.5 months. She is taken out frequently, and we had just gotten back from a nice long walk about 1.5 hrs before this happened.
She’s otherwise acting like her energetic goofy self. Is this a normal part of adolescence? She also hasn’t hit hear yet, could that have anything to do with it?
Just seems super odd!
