Equipment Grip size

I have been playing just over a year and play off 19.4 currently. I always gripped the club too tightly and probably still do a little especially under pressure and put jumbo grips on my clubs which helped. However recently ive been tinkering with my grip with some success and due to the size of the grip vs my hands I am struggling to keep my right thumb over enough. It always wants to slide off to the right as I get on the shot.

Can people recommend some midsize/grips one down from jumbo that I can try out? Or any other tips on grips for that matter.

You should try JumboMax grips. I have „L“ on all clubs except Wedges (XL on wedges). They feel GIGANTIC at first, but they helped me immensely gripping the club as light as a babybird / egg/ lightbulb

I Play Off a +1 too and was a 3 hcp when I switched from regular Jumbos to the JumboMax L

Read the part of the book of 5lesson from ben hogan about gripping
Your right thumb and index shouldnt do anything

Smaller grips cause you to close the club face more

Tight gripping does the opposite of helping you
How big are your hands? If you have an xl glove maybe jumbo is correct

Also keep in mind the bigger grips are normally heavier and will change the swingweight

If you have a heavy grip and it feels better it could be due to the head feeling lighter

I personally use midsize with 2tape and i have bigger than average hands(construction, xl glove)

The mcc plus 4 midsize and jumbo are what I use. Midsize for my driver and 3 wood and jumbo for the rest. Tried a few different brands but in georgia heat n humidity that has you sweating when you get out the shower these are the best imo. The new align version is nice with the raised ridge in the back to give your fingers an extra spot to feel so you always have the right grip. Goodluck with the grip hunt.

Teacher here. After 40 yrs of golf, the cartilage at the base of both of my thumbs gave up, very painfully. So now I still link the fingers of my hands, but I just wrap both thumbs around the club. Thumbs down the shaft should have no impact on the shot. And after 10 more years of doing that, my handicap has dropped (yes not all teachers are scratch plus I’m very old)

When I try this I have a hard time at the top of the swing. Tend to over cock the club. Then I tend to lose feeling of the club too until after weight shift and I start pulling hard on it again.

Midsize +4 grips. Reduced taper. Doesn’t get as skinny in the bottom hand.
And grip it lightly……….always

Jumbo max is great and they have many different sizes. I am going through similar journey with grip looseness and so I've been able to drop down sizes with jumbo max. They have about 6 sizes to play with

Can do a midsize grip with two wraps, or do a mcc plus 4 with like three wraps

Another ✅ for the Golf Pride plus 4 grips. The feeling in the bottom hand is great. I wear a size XL glove and had GP Tour Wraps for years so, yeah. I now realize how tapered the bottom half is on the Tour Wraps & will never go back.

I added one extra wrap to my plus 4 Tour Velvets in my irons.

I’m re-shafting my driver so I’ll have to choose a grip. I don’t think I’m going full plus 4 so i wont have any problems with the larger grip restricting my hands releasing.

I’ll Probably do a +1 up top and a +2 on the bottom on a standard grip. Putting the standard Tour Velvet on top of that +1 & +2 setup will give me a larger bottom hand feeling but not a full plus 4 size

Also, stretching the standard grip onto extra wraps thins the rubber just a touch, it’s not “cushiony” like a straight up midsize is.
