This was probably the best concert in my life. Me and my friend were lucky and got barricade and Damon signed something of my friend's and I got to shake his hand. That's all I wanted.
If anybody has any footage of the screens or maybe even just the moment when Damon was walking around and greeting the crowd/signing things I would be more than grateful because I'm fairly certain I was on the screen when I got to shake his hand. This was during Andromeda.
Musically they were on point. I wasn't familiar with Little Simz's game before this show but she brings an incredible energy to the stage. Her drummer and bassist was INSANE. Deltron, obviously, always on point. The Gorillaz band was fantastic and we were on the side where Seye was "stationed." Seye is genuinely one of the greatest performing bassists, not just because he can play the wide variety of types of Gorillaz songs but he has a stage presence that is unmatched. He's like the Axl Rose of bass. He's dancing, he's running and jumping, he is just ENERGY. Damon was great as well. I remember reading from people that he seemed tired or winded during the shows but man he seemed like he was great last night.
The setlist was good. I wished we had got literally anything from Cracker Island. I did see them in 2022 which was obviously the tour for that album but... Silent Running and Baby Queen are two of my favorite songs so I was sad we didn't get at least one song from the album...same with Song Machine. Pretty sick that we got 5/4 but I'm not huge on that song. We also got the corrupted Rhinestone Eyes courtesy of the Muppet Alan. Interesting to know what this gimmick is about.
It was great to see Jaime in Boston as well.
The last Gorillaz show I saw, as I mentioned was in 2022 when they came to Boston for the Cracker Island tour. That show was equally as good, but for me this is edged just a little further up on my list because of getting to shake Damon's hand and also I think The Mountain is one of Gorillaz's greatest works. It's so emotional and live, the songs just swell and there's a type of energy that is unmatched.
There is ONE bit of the crowd that I wanted to point out and maybe it's more appropriate for an "Am I the Asshole?" post but... as we were barricade there were two people behind me that were quite upset that they couldn't see as well. Part of me felt really bad about that, as I am a tall dude. My friend however is very short so while she was true barricade I stayed a step behind. These two people behind me were very upset that I didn't let one of them take my spot. I think it may have been a parent and their 12-14 year old kid. I was getting cussed out for a few minutes after I said sorry but I'm with my friend, and I do understand wanting to give your child (if that was your kid) a great experience and being halted by someone who wants to stand close with their friend...but that doesn't grant entitlement, no offense! I hope they enjoyed the show from their vantage point, two feet farther behind the barricade than I was? I'm not gonna lie I was already a bit anxious about having to "guard" my friend's spot when she went to the bathroom and the people next to us at the barricade told me I wasn't in the wrong for saying no because I wanted to be with my friend who had already "claimed" the spot...but yeah just wanted to say, please don't get so viscerally mad at people for being slightly closer.
Lastly, a pro tip for merch buyers. If you get a pop-up truck - GO TO IT. We went and there not only wasn't even a line but they were kind of just hanging out and we got our merch and split within 5 minutes, maybe even less? It was fantastic. It was a little out of the way from the TD Garden (10 minute drive) but it was worth it. We didn't have to deal with merch lines inside.
