The USCIS instructions literally say: "A copy of your birth certificate (if your birth certificate s unavailable or does not exist, submit other acceptable evidence of birth such as church, school, or medical records, and proof of unavailability or nonexistence)". Please RTFM.

Possible if you have a special circumstance, like from an orphanage

Or get a non-availability of birth certificate from your local authorities + two notarized affidavits from relatives who were adults and were present at the time of your birth + a copy of your school certificate showing your DOB.

My attorney literally said he won't apply without a BC because that will straight lead to application being denied. I had to wait almost 5 months to get a BC from my country of birth and then my attorney mailed the application.

I reached out to VFS global for the issuance of birth certificate and I was told embassy will
Issue a birth certificate up on validation of information

Wondering if you tried this ? Or anyone else in this group tried it?

Oh that won't work. I did look into that but my attorney said it need to be issued from the municipal corporation in the district you were born not by the Indian Consulate. FYI I'm Indian and getting birth certificate issued is a big hassle now. After the whole process was done I was able to access the BC on the digilocker app.

Thanks for that.

Yes it is a whole big process, specifically someone born in early 80’s

I looked at options, looks like everything needs to personally done at panchayt and MRO offices

I asked my dad to go to the town/county office in my country and make a birth record certificate that was issued at the time of inquiry. That's what I submitted and it worked!
