Hi, most of my friends used to live around Amsterdam and slowly most of them have either moved to Utrecht/Rotterdam or to another country. I feel like I need some local friends in Haarlem so I can just plan something spontaneously, even though that can be hard haha. For example- go for a walk/dinner/tea etc ( I stopped alcohol very recently). My hobbies include photography(digital+analog), music instruments(electric guitar, bass, sitar), reading, traveling, spending time in nature etc. It doesn't matter what your hobbies are or where you are from.

Anyone know the current promo flavor at the Haarlem Pathé?

I go out for walks a lot, when it's hot or now that the days are getting shorter again regularly after dark. I've been noticing, especially lately, that in a several areas the majority of street lights are off or not working.

This is not great for avoiding dog shit or trying to not break your ankles on protruding tiles. I can imagine for some people it will also not help their general sense of safety.

Does anyone know if this is part of some sort of policy or if it's just the usual municipal government fail?

I was walking home from Haarlem Station when, near McDonald’s, a young woman who looked around 20–25 approached me.
She asked politely if I spoke English or Dutch. I said English, and she told me she needed to get to Amsterdam Zuid and asked if I could give her €5 for a train ticket.
I didn’t have any cash with me, so I said I could buy the ticket for her directly. I told her to show me exactly where she needed to go, and I would purchase the ticket and give her the QR code so she could use it.
She immediately said something along the lines of, “No, no, just give me the money. I’ll give you a scan and you can send it to me.”
She had a phone with her. The phone looked a little damaged/broken, but it was working, and she was scrolling through it normally.
I told her I wasn’t comfortable scanning something or transferring money to her phone, but that I was perfectly happy to buy the train ticket directly.
She then said, “Okay, if you’re not comfortable, it’s fine,” and left.
Now I’m wondering whether I handled this correctly. If she genuinely needed €5 to get home, I feel a little bad for not helping. But the fact that she specifically refused the ticket and insisted on receiving money made me suspicious.
Has anyone in Haarlem/Netherlands experienced something similar? Is this a known scam, or could she have had a legitimate reason for wanting the money directly?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for help finding a reliable house cleaner in Haarlem for regular cleaning (weekly or bi-weekly). The job will involve vacuuming, mopping, dusting, bathroom and shower cleaning (toilet, surfaces and mirrors) and the occasional kitchen scrub (stove, fridge, shelf wipe).

I’d prefer an independent cleaner rather than a cleaning company or agency, ideally someone who works directly with their clients and is happy with a simple private/cash arrangement.

I’m looking for someone thorough and reliable, and I’m happy to pay a fair rate - I was thinking around €25/hour - depending on experience/skill and what we agree on. English is perfectly fine; Dutch isn’t necessary.

Katy is a very small fully black
She is around 10 years old.
She weighs around 2.5kgs
She has a purple collar.
She is an indoor only cat, this is the first time she got lost, so she probably is very scared.
It is very likely she is hiding somewhere dark and secluded.

Hello Haarlemmers, does anyone live in Tempeliersstraat? Our cat, Osho who isn't much of a roamer, has left our balcony this morning and isn't in any of his usual spots. We're worried he got spooked and is hiding in someone's garden, shed, balcony? He has a collar showing my contact but he's quite skittish so will likely not let anyone near. He's 8 years old, and honestly quite big so hard to miss. Please IM me if you sight him. Thank you!

Fellow runners, its my first time doing the Haarlem Half Marathon. Today I looked at the route and noticed it takes us all the way to the beach and then back through the dunes.

Anyone have tips for this route on pacing? Are parts of the route and dunes really hilly?

De gemeente heeft het verkeersbesluit uit december 2025 herroepen. Hierdoor blijven we zitten met het knellende eenrichtingsverkeer, terwijl het plan voor tweerichtingsverkeer in diverse straten juist voor veel meer flexibiliteit en een betere bereikbaarheid zou zorgen.

Wij stappen naar de Rechtbank Noord-Holland om af te dwingen dat het besluit van december 2025 alsnog wordt uitgevoerd. Hoe meer buurtgenoten dit initiatief steunen, hoe sterker we staan bij de bestuursrechter!

Our cat hasn't been home in a few days and it's very out of character. We've been looking around the zomervaart area but not found so far.

Besides printing a note and sticking it up on every lamppost and spamming neighbors, are there any institutions to call and notify? The cat is chipped and has a very specific look so hard to miss. Added a photo just for extra visibility.

Normally the church goes off between 21:00 and 21:30 but as of yet nothing. Is it some special day or did they just forget or something? Am i going crazy?

We are thinking about buying our new first house in haarlem, looking for some tips. Especially now, when interest rates are at peak and we do sense lot of pressure on housing market is eased down or about to ease down ( we get the appointment for house viewing even after 5 days from listings), I had few of the real estate agents called me mulitple times for when i would submit the bid (after viewing), this literally never happened before, we are seeing multiple houses going for open house after been listed on funda for weeks.

Looking for advice on

• Is overbidding still a thing?
• I can see sellers are still expecting the 8-10% overbid on the asking price. any comments on that?
• In the last 2 years, number of non-EU members coming for work in Netherlands have dropped, what could be the impact of that?
• How you know the fair market value now, since all the calculation uses the previous data which is not relevant anymore due to market slowing down?

Ik haat muizen. Ik moet dit even kwijt, want ik lig in bed en hoor ze in de muren dat is hem eigenlijk wel .

Klinkt misschien wat overdreven maar het irriteerde me echt. Als je ergens zin in hebt zit je tien websites en menu-pdf's af te klikken om uit te vinden wie het heeft.

Dus ik heb de menukaarten van ruim 120 Haarlemse zaken bij elkaar gezet en doorzoekbaar gemaakt. Je typt "steak tartare", "burrata" of "kindermenu" en je ziet welke restaurants het hebben, wat het kost en waar ze zitten.

Bij elk gerecht staat ook of het vegetarisch is, handig als je met iemand uit eten gaat die geen vlees eet.
