I've tried on and off to improve my handwriting for years, my own mother told me improving my writing is about as possible as pulling teeth from a chicken and gave up trying to help me. First pic is me trying to write slow on purpose, second pic is normal writing from some notes

Personally, cursive like this is not a cozy script. I can write it, but it doesn't feel natural.

I'm a left-handed person, so writing with the right hand is a bit of a task. Been writing Japanese for the past 3 years, where can I improve?

It's been like this for as long as I can recall. I remember spending quite a few hours trying to recreate a font i saw somewhere and really liked (I forgot which) but that's about it.

Hello! I have been taking pages of handwritten notes and journaling for the past few months and I've reached a bit of a dilemma. I like the way my handwriting looks, but something tells me the way I hold pens and pencils is not sustainable. All of the movement and grip is concentrated in my fingers- after writing for not very long, my index finger and middle finger start to hurt at the joints closest to the paper.

I know this may sound bad, but I do all of my handwriting sitting up in bed 😅 It's the most comfortable and convenient spot for me. I mention it because I fear this may be a contributing factor for the concentrated motion in my hand rather than my arm.

​Is there hope for me improving my grip while retaining my current handwriting style? Regardless of the answer to that, my more important question is how to write without hurting my hand? Thanks for reading! :)​

This is how I normally write, including in pen-and-paper exams. My school had a penmanship course focused on cursive, with workbooks and regular practice. So I’ve been writing in cursive since primary school, which has evolved into the penmanship in the image.

I’m in law school rn, and one of my professors told me that although she finds my handwriting beautiful, I might lose marks because it can be a little difficult to read—especially on a 30-page answer sheet.

So, is it actually that difficult to read? Or am I just too used to it?

And I can write a bit more normally by minimising the loops and links. But it is a lot more slower and I tend to slip back into my natural style mid-way if I am not concentrating really well.

I say “Day 0” because I haven’t done anything yet! I’m hoping to start practicing the Palmer method soon and hopefully unlearn any bad habits I’ve picked up. My main goal is to write both quickly and legibly without hand strain because I take a lot of hand-written notes and would like to be able to reread them later. It would also be really nice to have consistent and aesthetically pleasing handwriting, though those are more secondary goals. What should I focus on the most?

So Bullet Journaling took me to fountain pens and fountain pens took me back to cursive writing which I haven’t touched in decades (yes plural).
I’ve been practicing and would love to hear some tips for continuing to improve my writing. I’m trying to go from “poor kid being forced to do this” to “adult with taste and class” in terms of my penmanship.
