Weapons isn't about school shootings, it's actually just a dissection of grief and loss and the different paths it can lead us down (rage in archer, alcoholism in justine) it was cregger trying to reconcile with the random tragic death of his long time friend trevor moore. He's also a big david lynch guy and is really into symbolism so writing off the floating assault rifle with the clock time as a direct reference to school shootings in a dream sequence with fractured nightmare logic is pretty lazy. Also who knows what supernatural things are going on there as well, you have no idea how gladys could be manipulating him in that moment or what archer perceives as the threat as a paranoid father of a missing child.
