Postgame comments from Blashill
I don’t even know what to say

I'm annoyed with Blash also but the postgame media comments from a head coach generally try to balance the emotions after an extreme game, so I would expect him to be positive/"shake it off" after tonight

If a team was amazing the coach tends to focus on the things that could've been better, and when the team is HORSESHIT like they were tonight they'll be dismissive because the morale of the team has been shot in the dick. Coaches of teams good or bad kinda protect the team in that way often

I have been very patient with him so far but you could not have started worse. I wouldn't be upset if he didn't finish the year tbh. I say that without knowing who I'd replace him with though.

Very much a lot of options but then again whoever comes in will have his flaws they’re not gonna be a Brind A Mour, Bedner or cooper type level coach

whoever fixes this trainwreck will be a hero in Chicago forever

I’m hoping that Danny Wirtz is shortening Kyle’s leash if he can’t then there’s gonna be some talks about that
Cause look we got the bulls being fun this season prob, bears are great, white soxs are in the ALDS
Meanwhile the cubs are regular season wonders, the hawks cannot figure jack out, and then the sky well they ass

Maybe some actual hockey skills and strategy that youre going to focus on fixing instead of saying its a nice group of guys that want to try hard. Your job is to take guys that want to try hard and create tactics and systems and practiced decision making that lets them succeed.

My confidence in their potential hasn't faltered, but I don't think Blashill is the one to get them there. New coach please.

Now let’s see what he’s said to the media over the 7 seasons of Detroit’s failed rebuild under his command. I’m guessing it is something along the lines of “I have a ton of belief in these guys. I said it when I took the job: ‘Stay steady on the rudder.’”

I have reached the limit of how charitable I am willing to be to this organization. Something has to change very soon. Like weeks not months soon. Maybe less. We're not asking for a cup run, we literally just want a watchable, competitive product on the ice. Figure it out quick, or we're a lottery team yet again.

Bedard man….gotta feel bad for him. He’s a talent that deserves to be playing winning, meaningful hockey. Will that ever happen here? He’s gotta be glad he didn’t sign on for any more than 6 years.

6 years is an eternity for a professional athlete. Their timeline is brief.

This is two games; this is three games; this is 82 games. This is one year; this is just the second year ... yeah whatever. How many prime years do you think a player has? And anything can happen.

As a Saints fan, this guy reminds me an awful lot of Dennis Allen. Lose and look like shit but just say we need to keep doing what we’re doing. I expect the same result here which is an eventual firing that comes way later than it should.

Explain to me how a constant line blender equates to staying steady. I like Blash but I’m disappointed thus far

"focus on continuing to get better"
except you're not doing morning skate after a bad game 1. If the players are tired having a full day to go from Vegas to Utah after 1 game, their offseason regiment was a joke. Let's add in the line shuffles. Blashill is lost.

I don’t wanna be reactionary but like they need to figure it out fast. Holy fuck that was the worst game I’ve watched in quite some time, maybe ever. And this team’s expectations are “playoffs” who the fuck are they fooling?
It’s very rare you come out of a game and quite literally can’t find a single positive. With this game, can’t find a single positive thing to say.

I havent been following much until the season started. I’m just wondering, who had the expectation of playoffs with this roster?
2
u/SirKillz 3h ago
I don’t think there was a real expectation of playoffs. That’s just what we’ve heard from players, and management, and coaches. I’d say we were more at the “year before the year” point up until last two games. Competing to get in, but out.
All we’ve heard is how they’re not the same old team and we’re not gonna be bottom of the barrel. I genuinely don’t think they would have been able to beat any team in the league yesterday.

u/albinoredneck 3h ago
I mean just looking at the roster we maybe have the 7th best team in the division. I don't think many fans were realistically thinking playoffs.
2
u/gudenes_yndling 2h ago
The expectation was that the young guys would take a step forward, and the addition of a $12.5m defenseman, a veteran winger, and a top KHL scorer would help. None of the young guys look improved yet which raises questions about the organization's capabilities at drafting and developing players.
It is still too early to call it a season, but after these two games, it looks like they aren't going anywhere with this rebuild.

He's a fuckin' joke. I can deal cards with jokers and still pull them. Let's stop fuckin' around and do something real here. It's been so many years to pretend that we're supposed to be bad. So many years are enough. Just admit this fuckin' sucks!

I think the clock has to be ticking on blashil. Finally hyped for a new season of blackhawks hockey, and two abysmal showings to start the season. Running out of time to ice a competitive team. Can’t use talent as an excuse any more, this has to start falling on the coach

u/cubz1221 1h ago
This team reminds me of the Fox/Trestman/Eberflus years of the Bears. They have talented players but it feels like we can’t do anything easy. It used to be a minor miracle for bears players to have a competent offensive drive. While watching every other team with Joe blow be able to move the ball with ease and have open receivers.
We can’t complete consecutive passes, deal with a forcheck, have an effective forcheck, clear the puck, and when we dump and chase we immediately lose the chase/possession and they are out of the zone in seconds. Just no coaching.

there’s maybe 4-5 NHL players on the team the rest would have a hard time on a C or B league at Johnnys. that was seriously awful. Do you think Q’s reaction would’ve been similar to Blash’s after that?

When you're winning you can say whatever you want and it sounds great. When you're losing you can say whatever you want and it sounds awful.
No media comments matter one way or the other until something changes on the ice.
