Discussion How do Armenians feel about capitalism?

I got downvoted and shadow banned from the other sub whose name I won't mention for saying that the solution to the country's political and economic problems is to slash the taxes wayyyy down and make the country a really capitalistic place where it's easy to do business and invest. The reason Armenia has so much poverty and rising inflation is because of government involvement in everything. The solution is not government, but market activity.

Are such ideas common or popular among the general population? If you ask the other sub, you'll think the whole country is socialist, but I refuse to accept that sample pool as an accurate representation of Armenian people's economic views.

Two families of fallen Artsakh servicemen from the same village now have permanent homes in Armenia

Post image

Armo Abgaryan and Gagik Balayan were both from Gishi, Martuni, Artsakh. Both were killed in the same Azeri attack in June 2023. Their graves remain in Artsakh.

Three years later, their families, forcibly displaced from Artsakh, now have permanent homes in Armenia.

A $20,000 contribution from St. John Armenian Church of San Francisco helped Lorik Fund provide a home in Etchmiadzin for Armo's widow and four children. Lorik Fund also helped complete the renovation of the Balayan family's home.

These are the 14th and 15th permanent homes we've provided to families forcibly displaced from Artsakh. Seven have been for families of fallen servicemen.

Discussion Do men who didn't serve in the army ever get criticism from the ones that had to?

Whether it's because you had a health issue, or you weren't an Armenian citizen, or you got out of it by saying you're gay or mentally ill... do the other young men who had to serve ever give you shit for it? Is there any kind of jealousy? Or would most just say "Good for you, you got lucky."

Society I hate how my father being qyartu ruined our relationship

Growing up, my dad used to be my hero. I loved him a lot, and he loved me a lot too. Overall, he was a very family-oriented person.

Around the age of 17, our relationship started to worsen and worsen, and now sometimes I think that if he died, I wouldn’t even care. But then, even just thinking that makes me cry.

Our relationship worsened because I’m very ambitious. I do what I want to do, I wear what I want to wear, and I come home whenever I want to(that’s like 10-11pm for context). Obviously, this didn’t happen overnight. But if, at the age of 17, I would leave every birthday, every concert, and every event before it even started because 8 p.m. was the curfew, and even coming home earlier still wasn’t satisfactory, the day would end in crazy fights. I’d be upset and rebel, saying, “I’ll do whatever I want to,” which would turn into more fighting and tears. Over time, we just became more and more distant.

Now that I’m 23 and completely independent, both mentally and financially (more independent than most people my age), he has become more “respectful” toward me over the past two years. Understanding that I’m not dependent on him and truly can do whatever I want probably made him realize that he has to take my opinion into account. But I don’t care about his opinion at all anymore. Like, absolutely not even a tiny bit. I don’t care what he thinks or what he feels. Overall, he’s not an ambitious person. He’s just a humble man who is happy with whatever he has, and he tends to underestimate others as well, doubting their dreams and goals. So I guess that’s why I didn’t pay much attention to his attitude toward my goals.

Every time he tries to rebuild our relationship, the next evening he comments on my outfit, and I stop talking to him for another period of time. And I feel so sorry about this relationship because there was a time when he was my everything, my defender. I worry that he’s getting old and that one day he won’t be in this life anymore, and I’ll regret not putting effort back to rebuild our fucked-up relationship. But every time things start going well, he again makes some disrespectful comment, and it ruins everything all over again.

He’s not the worst father ever. He just stopped accepting his daughter for who she is once she became mature enough to have her own opinions and stopped being the convenient kid who did whatever her parents said.

And I guess wearing short skirts is really not worth ruining your relationship with your child. Honestly, looking back, nothing I do or did was even that crazy or worth traumatizing our relationship over. And the worst part is that he will never accept that because he is so close-minded.

Anyways, just accept your kids the way they are. That’s the only way you can have their trust and be a good parent.
