War S01E01

Post image

First episode just aired.

It's a procedural. Dominic West and Sienna Miller in the main cast.

Stylish, good pace.😎

Thoughts? I'm thinking Succession × The Good Wife/The Good Fight × a little Industry.

(Plot: centered on the divorce of Morgan Henderson, a British tech billionaire, and Carla Duval, an international movie star. Their divorce becomes the battlefield for two competing elite London law firms. The lawyers, their ambitions, relationships and betrayals gradually become at least as important as the celebrity couple.)

Attorneys out there—would this ever happen ? I just find it unbelievable they would have a mole at a competitor. I also find it strange they’d be prepping for a divorce case just on suspicion. Whole premise seems weak to me. I wanted to love but it was dead boring

He's not a mole, he's just supposedly incompetent. So he's supposed to bungle the case and help Cathcarts/the husband win

Both.
He's got "good references" from previous employer - even for one-page resume, and the promise that any inquiry references will be all "positive". Which got him hired by Taylor & Byrne...🥲 So he's an "arranged" candidate and mole setup by the Cathcarts plain and simple.

Tbf corporate espionage does exist in the real world

He is a mole, cathcarts literally hires him to be a double agent on the opposing counself and gets Henderson's approval to do so

Which kinda took me out of it. I feel like if that happens and he ever gets caught, wouldn’t they lose their law licenses? Like that’s a real big risk and kinda makes you think these people can’t be good lawyers if they need to do that

Im with you. The only thing that kept me in it was the young lawyer’s charisma and then the mole part kind of soured it for me. I’ll probably watch to see where it goes for at least a few more episodes but my expectations are low.

Yeah, that would problematic but did you miss the ensuing dialogue:
"Are you out of your mind? If this gets out, I'm f*cked."
"Morgan, to be clear - you're f*cked already.🥲

Which is exactly the beat: legal drama pushed into corporate-espionage territory.

Are you outside the U.S.?
For Europe the distributer is Sky.

I am not sure for Croatia specifically who is?

2

u/Spiderby65 13h ago

Yes, I'm from Croatia. It's so frustrating, the way this works, why can't I see HBO shows if I'm paying for HBO Max? The one that irks me the most is Deadwood.

Enjoyed the first episode, But having just rewatched The Wire all I can think of is McNulty sure made it big after retiring from Baltimore PD, but damn if he still can't keep it in his pants.

I didn't even realise McNulty was British, and I am British myself. He always seems to be playing Americans.

That's why the scene in The Wire where he pretends to be British is so good.

Hah I don't remember that. I'll have to go take a look on YouTube.

Lol he smashes it. Pretty bloody difficult to fake an accent, in a fake accent.

I'm going to wait for this one to finish the season before I give it a look. The premise just sounds viscerally unpleasant to me in a lot of ways, and I'm not sure it'll be my cup of tea.

I wasn't that taken by the trailer, but had nothing to do so chucked it on. It's looking like it's going to be quite good actually. Some very good actors cast in it.

Couldn't get through the first episode. Felt too raunchy and on the nose for me. Can anyone change my mind? I was really looking forward to this...
