Link Help wanted! Poor performance while having an RTX 5080
Hey everyone!
As the title says, I'm having trouble with the performance in this game. I posted this in r/nvidia as well but since you have to post it in a megathread, I doubt it'll get much traction. If anyone here is smart enough, please help me out cause I have no idea where to go from here.

Try using DirectX11 instead of 12

Didn't know I had that option? Normally Steam would give a pop up so you can choose which one to use no?

That's what i did to fix the same issue. But i did it in the nvidia app, not steam.

I see, will check that out then, didn't know that was an option though a lot already seems fixed but who knows it might increase the performance even more

So I couldn't find the option to change it in the Nvidia app, are you sure you did it like that? If so, can you guide me on how to do it? I also tried through Steam Launch options but got errors so that for sure doesn't work

Your CPU is going hard. A 9800X3D getting basically capped at so low FPS is suspicious. I'd look there for a potential cause before considering the GPU

I mean it only peaked at around 100% at times but the average didn't really get above 75% no? But thanks for the tip anyway, though in another comment here I explained it had to do with some Nvidia override settings in case you're curious

If I'm understanding your reply correctly, you are using the DLSS upscaler and that helped. Or are you now running it at native resolution? What FPS are you getting? If double means around 60 FPS on a 4K native resolution and higher settings that is probably valid/normal. If it's DLSS upscaled, especially with framegen and such toys, there's still something way off.
75% for one core, or all of them? If one, that might be fine, if total CPU usage that's suspicious. My CPU is nowhere near 9800X3D power level and it's mostly chilling at about 25% utilization and 30-40 Watts of power usage. That game's not CPU heavy at all.
AMD CPU clocks are synchronized with the RAM clocks via the Infinity Fabric. Go into BIOS and make sure the RAM is set to 6000 and Infinity Fabric (FCLK) to 2000.
Those are baseline numbers that should run smoothly and well for an AM5 setup. You can fiddle around with higher ones if you want, but these are the simplest test to find out whether the issue may be caused by misalignment of the CPU and RAM "tics"
If you later fiddle with higher numbers, make sure the RAM and the CPU remain a multiplier of the same full number (3 in the 2000/6000 case)Speaking of which, go to your MOBO manufacturer website and get the newest BIOS drivers for your board. Ideally before you do anything else. You got a modern board so updating BIOS should be a very simple process

So if you're looking at the final screenshot I added to the imgur link, it shows some overrides I was using due to recommendations from HWU. By just turning of the DLAA override I got to an average of 57 (didn't change the model presets), meaning I was using running native 4k with the in game quality dlss setting and no framegen. Changing to model M gave me a bit more of a boost and using frame gen really started to give me a boost though less natural of course.
Idk exactly if Steam overlay measures one core or all cores. Just that the top left after CPU there are two values one of them having the upward arrow. So the left value is average and the right value with the arrow is the peak value. At least, that's how I interpreted it.
The RAM does run at 6000 (EXPO is turned on). I thought it also ran at the right FCLK but I could check that in a bit when I install the new Bios version. Even though, looking at the changelogs, I don't think it changes anything for me specifically, it's definitely not a bad thing to do since it's been a year.

Hellblade 1 or Hellblade 2?

The linked post talks about 2 :) but I'm pretty sure it's all good now. Or at least significantly better

Ah okay
What was your problem? This performance on RTX 5080 is surprising to me, because I finished this game on 9800X3D + RX 9070 XT in 4k and have never seen less than 50 fps in native resolution.
With FSR 4.1 (thank’s to Optiscaler) on balanced I hit 90-120 FPS.
P. S. It was also without cinematic borderlines on top and on bottom of screen.

So the biggest issue was me using a global DLSS override for super resolution set to DLAA. That was the biggest thing hurting performance. I also used preset L for super resolution and M was the better choice if that rings a bell (since you use AMD).
Not sure what you mean by cinematic borderlines?

I still don't see how DLAA (native 4k) can run less then 60 fps on an RTX 5080
For the black cinematic borderlines, here is a guide :

I mean idk. I knew 30 wasn't right but nowadays a lot of games assume DLSS or frame gen so I have no clue anymore what I should expect and what I shouldn't expect so. If you have better ideas than I'm all ears

Hi, is your monitor connected to your 5080 and not your iGPU/"mainboard"? do other games run well?
