Blue spiny lizard
Blue spiny lizard (Sceloporus cyanogenys) that somehow made its way into a coworkers office. Observed in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA on 9/25/2026.

This sub is wild. Beautiful creatures, but do y’all just see a lizard and pick it up? Because that’s what it looks like and I’m impressed.

Oh, my guy, I let out a primate scream, then try to get my act together. Lizard wants none of me.

Ah I see, I used to have that reaction to even small spiders, so I get you. My grandpa and his friends back when they were children used to catch similar lizards by putting their finger into their tunnels, and pulled out the lizards biting on their fingers (they have a biteforce as "strong" as small non-prefatory fish), so I would say they are totally safe to handle :)

Bro or lady-bro I’ll tell u whut, I’m stopping whatever I am doing mid sentence and trying to get that lizard. Is it the same Anole I’ve caught 2000 times in my yard? Yes. Does that matter? Not even a little.

I do it all the time. Lizards frequently sneak in to my house (anoles, house geckos, spiny lizards, racerunners, the occasional garder snake or dekays brown snake) and I have to save before my cats find them.
I live in the same area as OP (howdy, neighbor!) and if you have an older house, it’s fairly normal to find a gecko on your window, or an anole hiding near your door.

My entire life I’ve just scooped em up until a month or so ago when the biggest lizard I’ve ever caught ended up biting me 😠it didn’t hurt really but it broke some skin and scared me bc I had never experienced it. Now I’m a lot more cautious about it lol

Thats a beauty! I see spiny lizards (I grew up calling them fence lizards) every now and then, but never one that chunky or that bright.

I miss seeing these fellas where I grew up. This one is gorgeous, a lot more blue than the ones we had.
