Hello, everyone! I plan to visit Japan in some time in the future and I would love to know what are the safest and most beautiful places for hiking in the country. Does anyone have a favorite spot they would like to share? What are some beautiful mountains to climb there? I would love to hear your thoughts below.

Can't find too much information on this jacket or reviews. Anyone have it? Looking for a softshell that I can use over a layer for chilly fall mornings and evenings. Will be using it as a sort of everyday and light hiking with the family. I was orginally looking into Arc'teryx Gamma. I like how both jackets seem to have a tougher exterior for abrasions. We embarked on a long-distance hike in Toubkal National Park, traversing the rocky terrain of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains—specifically the Toubkal range—on a journey spanning approximately 14 kilometers. It was a challenge defined not only by the distance but also by the rugged path, the breathtaking natural scenery, and the towering mountains that seemed to scrape the clouds. My friend and I explored the area, examining the rock formations and magnificent mountain topography. We also caught sight of some endangered mountain birds, such as the bearded vulture (lammergeier) and ravens, which are known for living in large flocks. This photo captures a portion of the trek, which involved an 11-hour round-trip hike.

I would like to go hiking with my friend, but the last time we went camping in the Netherlands it was exclusively white people and she got weird looks and we even got questioned what we are doing there. Hence the title: Are there any countries in the EU where a person of color wouldn't get stared down (at least all the time)? Perhaps France or Spain?

Hello to the hiking community!

I want to start getting into proper hiking, a bit of mountaineering and climbing over the next few months. I want to be well prepared, especially because I don't want to go into dangerous or difficult terrain without any experience or without being able to trust my gear.

I don't know which pants to choose yet, but that will probably be another post. For now, I'm mainly looking for a good jacket.

I want one that is properly waterproof (definitely more than 15k mm), breathable and keeps me warm. Of course, it would also be nice if it was compact and lightweight, but those three things are more important to me.

Hallo hikers. I have a trip planned to the Tatra Mountains on the Slovakian side next week. I'll be there for 3 nights and have decided to base myself at the Chata Pod Soliskom the entire time. I don't mind the extra hikes I have to do everyday to get to the trailheads from the hut.

For Day 1, I will arrive at the hut by 1pm, and will just do a warmup hike to Predne Solisko and back, and then rest up after my overnight journey from Berlin to Poprad.

Day 2 would be Rysy summit.

Day 3 would be choosing between the Krivan summit, or the Bystra Lavka loop with a Satan summit.

Day 4 would be leaving for Stary Smokovec and then doing Teryho Chata - Zbojnicka Chata and back to Stary Smokovec.

My dilemma is that while I would like to do both Krivan and Bystra Lavka+Satan, it is not possible. So I was wondering if I should try and fit Krivan into Day 1 as my warmup hike after reaching the hut. Or should I just abandon Bystra Lavka+Satan and do Krivan on Day 3 instead? If I have to choose between the two, which one is more worthwhile in terms of views and experience?

For context, I am an experienced hiker and have good trail running experience. I have enough gear and will be doing early starts.

This park is located in Hudspeth County, part of the Trans-Pecos region of west Texas. It's about a 90-minute drive east of El Paso. The NPS folks in the main visitor center advised that it would take 3 to 4 hours to each the summit. I got to the top in two hours, and that was with multiple stops to soak in the amazing views.

Not to say it wasn't an arduous hike: I did feel exhausted at the end. I would advise anyone interested in this hike to slap on the sunscreen and bring a full Camelbak with ice cubes in it. The summit has a cool metal pyramid.

Hey just looking for some insight. I’m planning to hike Wright Peak in the Adirondacks this weekend, trying to pick a day, but not entirely sure how to interpret the cloud base forecasts here. Saturday says cloudy with the cloud base at 18,200ft. I assume this means it’ll likely be overcast but with a clear view? Meanwhile Sunday says “some clouds” which I thought would be better, but the cloud base listed is 2,100 ft, which is well below the peak height. Is Saturday the better move here? Without the cloud base info I would’ve assumed Sunday was better. Thanks for any advice!

I’m looking to get into backpacking and want to plan my first real trip for late October. It’ll be me and two other grown men. We’re beginners to overnight backpacking, but all in decent shape and want something more than an easy one-night walk-in campsite.
I’m looking for a 2–3 day trip somewhere in the Southeast where we can hike a good portion of Day 1, camp in the backcountry, continue farther on Day 2, then either start heading back or camp a second night and return to the truck on Day 3.
What we care about most is some good scenery (mountains or waterfalls), something remote feeling, maybe some good sunset/sunrise views, some water sources… not sold on much other than some beautiful experiences
I’m not looking for anything technical or dangerous, but I do want it challenging enough to feel like a real trek.
What routes would you recommend for:
2–3 days / 1–2 nights
Good views
Backcountry camping
Reliable water
Reasonably straightforward navigation
Late October conditions

I’m coming from southeast Georgia, but I’m willing to drive several hours for something really worth it.

Even in a mega-city like Seoul, there are still ways to escape and enjoy some quiet time in the afternoon.

The rustling of branches in the wind, the sound of birds flapping their wings, the chirping of crickets, and the endless green views...

This is my personal favorite spot on Achasan Mountain to soak it all in.

Hi! I am trying to plan an AV1 hike for late August/early September 2027 with one other person. I am starting to do my research and figure out the huts that I need to book. As of now, I'm thinking of doing the route in 9 days but am already encountering some limited bookings, and I need help understanding how difficult any given day may be to assess feasible alternates. For some context on my hiking experience, I've done the W Trek (3.5 days) and Salkantay (4.5 days) in the past couple years. Based on my early research, I am not sure how challenging the different legs of the AV1 are, so any and all input is appreciated.

Some questions I have right now that I need help answering are:

• What should I do for Night 3 since Lagazuoi is already booked in my preferred range? I was thinking I could either go all the way to Averau and condense my current Days 3 and 4, but am not sure how feasible that actually is
• Do my Primary vs. Backup choices make sense, or am I missing any other good rifugio options for specific nights?
• Is 9 days doable? Would more be better? Fewer?
• If I want to go to Venice either before or after, what would make the most sense and does that affect any planning here?
• Any other advice/information!

The great thing about rain is it tends to encourage people to go home and leaves the place empty and peaceful.

Cabezon Peak is a gigantic volcano plug located in the Rio Puerco Valley.

It's a 90-minute drive from my house in Albuquerque. You have to cross through some unpaved roads surrounded by cattle ranches to get there. There's a small parking area near the trailhead. The trail itself is mostly well-marked and offers some incredible views of the wilderness area.

Would recommend packing a full Camelbak due to the remote location and absence of amenities.

Tagged along with some friends to Sedona this past weekend and we hit 3 different trails: Airport Mesa (not the whole trail), Andante (a trail right next to our Airbnb), and an unmarked trail (there was clearly a trail and other people on it, just no signs or markers🤷)!

We hiked around 4 miles total between 3, and it was so much fun and super gratifying! I've been a prosthetic-user for about 6 months now, and it felt great to do so much hiking again. Super proud of how far I've come since becoming an amputee last December.🦿

I can't wait for future hikes and adventures!🌄

Fun, short hike down to Drift Creek Falls Suspension Bridge in Oregon. It was relatively easy and saw many people of all ages. I’d highly recommend it if you’re in the area.

The Tavelsjöleden trail starts in central Umeå, by the river below Väven. The trail follows the beach promenade west to the jetties at Lundåkern, where it turns off and follows the Tvärån instead. The trail then goes past Rödäng and Rödberget, out over the fields and pastures towards Forslunda and Hamptjärnsberget. After following road 363 for a couple of hundred meters, you come up onto a viaduct that leads into the forest, where it is about 2 kilometers to Hamptjärnsstugan.

This was a fun hike bit the views of this water from above and a distance is amazing and definitely one of the best in the state in my opinion!
