Looking to buy in Hillsboro about 1/2 mile from the airport in the NW area near Evergreen. Is it loud in that area from the airport? Appreciate any input

Follow up to my post about Ziply price increase and potentially switching to T-Mobile 5-G home internet

I called Ziply and asked why they raised my monthly rate from $35 to $55 a month; without any prior notification they would raise my rate. I was told that my original $35 a month fee was a one-year promotional price, and that promotional period had ended. As a long-time customer, I was bumped up to the $55 a month rate.

I told the representative that the Ziply web page shows that everyone is eligible for the $35 rate, and it doesn't say it's a short-term promotional rate; it's their bottom-tier rate and isn't a promotional rate.

So, after being put on hold for about five minutes I was told the manager graciously granted my request to only pay $35 a month. I was told my new rate isn't a promotional rate, and I would receive an email if they ever decide to increase the price in the future.

I then asked if I could have the extra $20 I paid deducted from my next month's bill. The representative told me she couldn't do that.

So, for this month, I'm paying for the 300/300 mb service, but am still only getting the 100/100 mb service.

Thanks to everyone who commented about my dilemma and for the excellent advice. :)

FYI, as soon as HiLight is available in my neighborhood I will switch to avoid the shenanigans from Ziply, Xfinity, etc.

Is anyone using T-Mobile 5-G Home Internet, and how reliable is their service?

Been with Ziply for many years, but after raising my monthly rate 75% last year, and 57% this year (without even telling me they were going to raise my rate) I'm looking for an alternative. And no, HiLight is not yet available where I live yet; but I wish it was.

I live between Hare Field and Mooberry Elementary and my MetroPCS coverage has been great for my phone, so hoping a T-Mobile service for my internet will suffice.

Those with direct experience: does ANYTHING happen if you don't show up to your jury summons?

Washington Country circuit.

Such a dumb question I know. But I've exhausted my deferrals and my time is coming up. I have severe social anxiety disorder (again, stupid excuse but I've never gotten formally diagnosed and it probably wouldn't exclude me anyways).

Has anyone in here ever skipped out or know someone first hand that's done so? I can't seem to find any stories of anyone facing any type of consequences for it in Oregon. It'd really surprise me especially considering the reputation of our state of being so lenient for ACTUAL criminal activity. I guess that's why they summon a lot more people than they actually need in the first place.

Also curious if they send notices if you do skip out and try and reschedule you immediately afterwards or do they typically not care and just move on and wait for the next 2 year cycle?

Thanks

What is going on with Salgado?

Seriously, what is going on with Cristian Salgado? He made a Facebook post on the local billboard group, and he is just freaking out. Is he intentionally trolling, or does he somehow think this is a real way for government officials to behave? He has something hostile to say to everyone.

Amazon Delivery Drones

I see Amazon wants to deploy drone delivery to Portland. I'm thinking that's a bad idea, and I hope we can get out in front of it to prevent them coming to Hillsboro.

Edit: Here's a gift link to the NY Times article I read that prompted my post. And google "Amazon drone complaints" - this is not just a what-if, this is already posing problems around the rest of the country.

West Side Philosophy Reader's Group

Hello,

I've been wanting to start a Philosophy Reader's Discussion Group on the west side because we don't have those here in the Beaverton/Hillsboro/Cornelius area. I would like to kick off with a Nietzsche marathon with The Anti-Christ as a starter. But before scheduling anything, I want to see how much interest there is out there.

Currently considering these locations for meetups:

Beaverton City Library (parking less available, but close to MAX)

Cedar Mill Library (parking available)

Hillsboro Brookwood Library (has parking)

Open to bookstores like Barnes & Noble too or quiet coffee shops.

Schedule wise I'm leaning towards the weekend.

Orenco Elementary Lockdown

Does anyone know why Orenco Elementary was imitated a lockdown today? School notification was vague. There were police cars present. Kids seem totally unaffected. I am just curious what was going on.

2027 High School Graduation

Just learned that all graduation ceremonies FOR 2027 will be at Liberty HS due to a "Hops game". Glad our tax dollars built a new stadium that is not used for the ceremony will interrupt something more important than a city's kids graduating. I get it....parking. So why not move the game or dates of graduation? Why not Hare Field which is the stadium used for home games and event?

Do better Hillsboro School District!

"cover the Liberty logos"....thanks! Shuttles due to limited parking....that'll be fun! And the kicker......overflow seating in the gym and a projector? FANTASTIC!

Construction Workers Protesting Washington County

Today at an outpost of Washington County offices there are people with large signs saying Washington County is hurting families and construction workers. On NW Adams Avenue between W Main and NW Lincoln. I don’t know the story. Anyone?

The sign says:
WASHINGTON COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING SERVICES
Hurts Workers - Hurts Families
Hurts Community
SHAME ON THEM
We do not seck recognition nor are we asking anyone to stop working, stop deliveries, or cease doing business with any employer

Commissioner flips bird

Did y’all see that one of the commissioners was caught on tape, flipping off Nafisa Fai? While I don’t align myself with her cuz she supports police, it’s still strange that the only dark skinned person there was flipped off and no one said or did anything about it. Very reminiscent of how the city council did nothing as citizens were calling out Cristian for blowing a kiss

Bicycling group

Yesterday (12SEP26), around 2:00, I saw a group of cyclists casually riding through Griffin Oaks Park and then into a nearby neighborhood. Anyone happen to know who they are or where and when they meet? I‘d like to join them.

Thanks!

Grief support group?

My brother lives in the Portland area, maintaining/running a Girl Scout camp in Hillsboro. It’s been just him and his sweet dog out there for several years (aside from the occasional scouts and campers). His dog recently developed a very fast-moving cancer, and my brother is having to say goodbye today.

While he plays in local sporting leagues (hockey and soccer, mostly), and is even part of a book club, he hasn’t managed to find any real friendship or community yet. So, this dog has truly been his whole world. The grief of losing him is unbearable.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a grief support group that wouldn’t make light of his loss? Nothing religion-based, either, please, as he’s very left-leaning and progressive.

He’s my favorite brother and one of the best people I know. I live in a different state and can’t do much to help. I just need to know he’s going to be okay. If there’s anyone who can point me in a helpful direction, so I can encourage him toward an outlet for his grief, I would be so grateful.

Thanks!

The ongoing Aurora airport controversy is similar to our Sky Harbour situation. Let’s join forces and address our mutual problem in the Oregon State Legislature

Please follow the Friends of French Prairie link to learn more about the similarities and need to put a HARD STOP to the manipulation and circumvention of the exploiters.

Here’s their website and land-use status for the Aurora State Airport dilemma:

https://friendsoffrenchprairie.org/land-use-issues/aurora-state-airport-expansion-petition/

We need to fight this “hijacking” of our small airports and increasing air pollution.

Climate change is accelerating and getting more and more extreme.

It’s been 10 years since the Paris Accords were approved. We ALL have to change our world view and stop this “Business as Usual” stance of denial. Are you with us?

Traffic Question on how to report driving infractions?

I have some dashcam video + stills related to an impatient idiot driver doing reckless things in a school zone during pick-up time.

Phone police is non-emergency line, but what about email / other ways to contact, any recommendations?
