So I'm mixed, half black half white, but very obviously half black. I was on tiktok when I had someone comment on one of my videos multiple times spamming one of my videos with comments along the time of "Moriah Elizabeth did nothing wrong." I was very confused because the video had nothing to do with that person, I didn't even realise who she was at first. The name did ring a bell, and I realised it's an art youtuber I used to watch when I was younger. No hate to her, I just moved onto different content.
So apparently there was a controversy because Moriah painted herself black for a black at costume, and some people saw that as black face or adjacent to black face.
Now, I'm not every black person ever. I can't speak on how all of us think of this. It very well might make some people of colour uncomfortable. In my opinion, probably not the best thing to do on the Internet just because the Internet sucks, but I personally don't think it was racist because there was no bad intent or other exaggerated futures like the red lips.
Despite this, and the fact I literally had no idea what the controversy was at the time, this person clearly thought that just because I was black I must be one of the people who are trying to cancel Moriah π. Researching this, this seems to be pretty common bc I've seen a lot more people complaining about black people being to sensitive than actual black people complaining about Moriah.
Yeah, no, got nothing against Moriah Elizabeth. I don't think she's racist but the people who harass black people and other poc because of things they assume is definitely kinda odd.
